I was in Central for I had some errands to run and needed a quick lunch as they seemed to sell sandwiches, salads, pasta and soup.Located down Li Yuen East Street, behind all the clothing hawker stands, is this small takeaway shop. They have limited seating if you want to eat in.They seemed to have a nice variety of sandwiches which looked decent. They seemed to have a nice variety of sandwiches which looked decent. All are labelled clearly in English and Chinese.
They also had a DIY salad section with a wide range of ingredients to create your own salad. They charge by the size of box so you can add whatever you want as long as it fits the box. You then choose your salad dressing which they have a eight to choose from. Including a few low fat/fat free versions.
They also have soup and DIY pasta. DIY pasta is done much like you would order a cart noodle. They have a slip of paper you circle what you want and they charge you for how many items you add to it. This slip of paper is in both English and Chinese.
When I was there, the staff informed me they had a special price for lunch time where if you order a salad or sandwich, you can add $15 to get a soup. Seemed decent enough so I ordered half a sandwich, a medium size salad and a soup.
Roast Beef with Brie on White Bread ($62 for whole, $33 for half). I ordered half a sandwich as I wanted something light and a whole sandwich seemed a lot. They will ask if you want it heated up and they will press it in a panini grill. They also add the sauce when you order. The staff reasoned it was to ensure that the sandwiches don't get soggy and some people want more or less sauce, they are able to customize. The bread was fairly good quality. The sandwich ingredients listed was roast beef, lettuce, brie, red onion with horseradish and mustard. What I got was pretty much everything with the additional tomato and cucumbers. The mustard wasn't very spicy and oddly I couldn't taste it. The brie seemed to be missing. Otherwise, sandwich filling was pretty fresh.
Salad ($48 for medium size). This is the medium size salad bowl. They only have medium or large (which costs $58). I chose a bit of rocket and romaine lettuce, cherry tomato, egg, corn, croutons and cheddar and mozzarella. My dressing was fat free honey dijon. The ingredients were very fresh and it was fairly easy to toss the salad and dressing in my plastic container. I appreciated they gave me enough dressing to coat my salad without it being drenched..
Pumpkin Shrimp Soup ($15). Originally $22, if you order a salad or sandwich, you can add a soup for $15. They have four soups to choose from and I went with this one. The soup was actually the best of the three items I ordered. It was a thick creamy soup with a strong pumpkin flavor. There was lots of large shrimp in it.
