I had an old friend from France come to Hong Kong for a visit. As I knew he was a big Wong Kar Wai fan, I decided to bring him to Goldfinch for lunch.Goldfinch is a restaurant that I had honestly never went to.  I didn't really know what it looked like from the inside as there were no windows. But it had been a staple in Causeway Bay for more than 50 years. It's also the setting for In The Mood For Love. Which is my favorite (and my friend's as well) Wong Kar Wai movie. A little while back, Goldfinch closed it's doors. But I a while later, it opened again. I guess it was under renovations? I'm unsure. But anyways ... it reopened again.Stepping in, it was clearly old. I don't know what they renovated but it was still looked old and rundown. There were various posters of 2046 and In The Mood For Love scattered throughout the restaurant. The menu was in English and Chinese  and served Hong Kong style western dishes. Things like steak on a cast iron plate. That type of thing. They even have an In The Mood For Love set that is for two people.  They also have a lunch set menu that is costs on average $60 but is in Chinese only. That is a far cry from the $100 plus sets found in the grand menu. Sets include a drink, soup (cream or borsch) and dinner bun.The borsch soup was ok. A bit too much tomato and not enough kick from a much needed dash of Worcester sauce.Steak on Cast Iron Plate ($180). My friend ordered this as I insisted ... yeah, you gotta do the whole Wong Kar Wai/2046/In The Mood For Love experience by eating what Tony Leung would have eaten.  I mean, COME ON! I chose this place purely for a cheesy touristy moment. I'm honestly slightly disappointed. I was all prepared to tell him ... GET YOUR PAPER NAPKIN READY! THEY'RE GONNA POUR BLACK PEPPER SAUCE ON TOP AND WATCH IT SIZZLE! Well, that didn't happen. Instead the sauce was already poured on and they brought the plate to the table, no sizzle effect at all. Being as my friend was French, this is a far cry from the really good steak and frites and it was all mushy and soggy.Baked Pork Chop Rice ($115). I ordered a baked pork chop rice. This arrived in a way I was not used to. Usually, it arrives in a piping hot plate that it was a baked in. What I got was  a plate with a mountain of fried rice and a baked pork chop on top. The sauce was mediocre. The pork chop was chewy. This was all so sad to me as it looked like it was all made separately. For this price, I think I could get a lot better elsewhere.Beef Chunks with Rice ($58). Boyfriend was with us and he ordered something off the Chinese only lunch set. The beef chunks were covered in a tomato sauce and was really hard to chew on. There was a scoop of mixed vegetables from one of those frozen packages.At least my  friend had a really good time as he loved how he wondered where the film cameras would be set up. He didn't say much about the food. It's a good thing I told him that it might not taste very good. It's sad that it turned out to be true. It seemed that this restaurant relied on fans of the director, actors or movies and seemed to forget that the food was pretty dismal. There are other restaurants that also serve similar fair but the food is at least a lot better. Needless to say, I won't be back. Not even to take another tourist there. 繼續閱讀

裝修後再去食...感覺大不如前...價錢貴左...但食物質素差左...點了2046餐,沙律細份左,沙律醬多得過份...個扒要五成熟...來到變左八成熟...以前甜品係雪糕,家下變左係罐頭雜果...如果每人平均要二百幾蚊食個咁ge 扒餐...我不如去大X樂食好過!🙄無下次! 繼續閱讀

金雀重開,今晩終於走去試。去到已滿等咗一陣至有位。店內是懐舊電影氣氛,好似去返七十年代。我叫了黑椒鐡板牛柳同羅宋湯,同以前嘅味道一樣。牛柳五成熟加上鐵板就有六七成,有肉味,加上傳統黑椒汁剛好。朋友點了金雀牛柳加田螺,好味,有特色。雖然餐廳細了,但顧客依然多。值得一嚐嘅懷舊味道。 繼續閱讀
