My second time to Unique Kitchen. This quaint little restaurant is located inside an industrial building behind the APM shopping mall and it is easy to find as it is just across the road from Entrepot Centre.
I came with a few other friends for dinner and it was quite a full house when we arrived at around 7.45 PM. The decor is perfect for couples on a dinner date or just anyone who wish to take a break from the hustle and bustle of a city life. We were immediately served by a friendly waiter by the name of Darren who recommended us some of the top picks. I ordered a Unique Set Dinner with the main course being the Roasted Angus Sirloin which included a Soup of the Day, an Appetizer as well as the Dessert and a drink.
The Soup of the Day was first up and as we let the staff decide on the soup, we did not know what it was until we tasted it. The taste was rather interesting and it was intense. It was quite sour at first but after a few more sip, the tastebuds got used to it and the orange flavour started coming in.
The bread was up next and unlike most of the breads that I have had in other places, the bread here was amazingly soft but yet the crust still stayed crispy and warm. The bread was certainly one of the highlights of the set dinner.
The crab salad came next and while the grapefruit was really sweet, I had no idea what the pink paste was. However, it complemented the crab meat well as the meat was a tad salty while the paste had a tinge of bitterness in it.
This main dish caught us by surprise mainly because from the looks of it especially from the side, it looked like the Pork Rack which they have on the menu as well but once I tasted the meat, I was completely shocked because I did not know that you can actually roast a sirloin to the point that it had the crispyness of a roasted pork and yet retain the juciness and tenderness of a seared sirloin.
The dessert was the finale of the dinner set and it did not disappoint at all. The pineapple curd really had a strong kick while the coconut jelly's mild taste balanced it out. The coriander seemed a bit out of the place but it did not affect the taste of this delicious dessert at all.
Overall, the staff were really energetic and friendly and the restaurant is perfect for couples or friends who want to have a slow dinner while chatting as it seems that each course is only prepared after you have finished the previous course and so you can expect to have a long evening with your date in this cozy restaurant.
