There aren't many Indian restaurants on Hong Kong Island (the majority in TST area) and virtually none in the Western District sans The Clay Oven. The restaurant is easy to find on a main street with the tram and bus right at the front door. The interior is nicely decorated but ranks informal. It was a Monday night and the place was quiet. It's family run and the service was personable and a bit familiar.
Since this was our first visit, we tried to stay with standard Indian fare. We also didn't order terribly much (just in case). The bill was quite reasonable, the food more than acceptable and since we live in the neighborhood, clearly a return visit for us. So recommended. Google for their website and online menu (a little colorful with pictures and likely helpful to those new to Indian food).
Here are the dishes we had:
Complimentary starter
We quickly received two freshly made papadums and 2 small Pakora (all vegetarian) with 2 sauces. Both hot and fresh and quite flavorful.
Marsala Papadum
This is a basic papadum with a series of toppings (think Indian crunch pizza). We were impressed with care of preparation and flavorful ingredients.
Vegetable Samosas
These a vegetable filling with spices, chick peas and wrapped in dough and quickly fried. These were hot and flaky with equally flavorful ingredents.
Butter Paneer Masala
Paneer is the Indian version of cottage cheese, cubed and in the typical orange colored butter sauce it was served hot in a serving bowl with freshly grated ginger. We appreciated that each dish had a slightly unique spice element which you would expect for Indian dishes.
Naan Bread
We ordered a plain Naan, we received a nice basket of freshly made hot Naan perfectly charred with a bit of crunch and chew, just what you want.
Overall, there is much to like about this restaurant and while it doesn't warrant a special trip. If you're in Central or West of, this is an nice inexpensive spot for an informal dinner.

食咖喱除o左去重慶大廈~ 新德里餐廳 之外,呢度都係一個不錯o既選擇
來左呢度幾次,環境好有印度feel,侍應老闆都好有禮貌,值得一去再去!Papadum and fried potato瑪沙拉羊膝Lamb knee masala
每一次都會點o既羊膝,燴得好'淋'但都保留到羊味,證明羊膝都幾新鮮!個汁唔太辣,但又幾'野'味,正!牛油雞 個汁唔辣,d雞亦都幾滑,好o岩唔食得辣既人 唔油o既Paratha呢個烤餅好特別,麥味重,唔油,侍應推薦的,得wor~

It was nice and memorable dinner for me.I was invited by my friend for this small dinner gathering.This was my second time here.First time I think before 2 year, i taste Indian Beer But this time i try Indian wine.I didn't know India have their so nice wine.Little beat fruity taste and easy drink.My friend choice Indian Samosa, lamb Curry, Nan bread all were very delicious.Vegetarian dish Baigan Bharta was ok.Next time we will try indian cobra beer.

Lots to like about Clay Oven. Friendly staff is always a good start, and the food didn't disappoint. That combination is the difference between an "OK" rating e.g. where service was a joke or food simply mediocre, and the "好美" smile.
Butter chicken, dal makhani, channa (chickpeas) masala, tandoori chicken were all good. Starter soup was really tasty but my friends oddly ignored it. Their loss. Group favorite was the ox tongue, we had it with Madras-style sauce that packed a darn good wallop. The local HK-ies loved it; the ABC wife was busting into a sweat. Half-pint (i.e. beijau junior) was quite taken with the plain naan; dad like the paratha (almost Malaysian style). Thumbs down to the masala pappadum which virtually dripped with oil and lacked the fresh toppings so common elsewhere.
And then there was the price. Wah, what's not to like?
Will have to return some time for the tandoori lamb leg (pre-order).

星期六晚同朋友約左遊車河,
出發前要食d 特別野,
之前都食過一次呢間,
覺得味道夠特別,夠正宗,
所以又推薦其他朋友過來試食
鋪頭唔大,但裝修得好靓,
非常有印度風格的豪華感,
老闆同一眾廚師waitress都系印度人(因為聽到好多印度話)
但系個個都笑容滿面,同好有禮貌,
叫左一杯芒果酸奶,
好好味,好開胃,
再叫炸洋蔥圈同炸春捲,
呢兩樣未上,老闆已經送左個餐前小食過來
系炸薯片甘樣既野,重點系點果D漿汁,非常好味,
食完再叫主菜cury beef 同cury fish,唔辣,
上菜速度岩岩好,
食完我地既前菜小食就上主菜.
我地叫做naan同普通蒸白飯.
點漿汁一流!
最後仲要再叫多一個蒜茸味naan,
淨食同點漿汁都一樣甘好味

同食之戰友aeris去食lunch,唔知食咩好,aeris上網睇到喱間feel幾正於是去試下了~!
去到時12點幾冇乜人,入到去即覺得個環境幾靚幾有特色,既似西式又有少少印度既feel,我諗主要係d畫令我覺得有印度既feel呀,加上入面既侍應都係印度人~!
set lunch,好在有中文既餐牌,最初以為會冇呀,價錢比想像中平,諗梗唔知食咩好時,店主會過來推介食咩好,用心既服務態度唔錯,我同aeris要左C and F set~!
個湯飲唔出咩喱,辣辣地~!
芒果酸奶,喱個都幾出名好飲,so試下了,真係好正呀,好濃既芒果味,又唔會太酸同太甜,加上杰杰地似雪香既口感唔錯呀~!
原汁咖喱雞,我地配烤餅呀,個烤餅好大塊呀,不過唔算太脆同粉左少少,如果整薄身少少會好味點,烤餅點咖喱汁食真係幾好味~!
咖喱雞,味睇細細碗以為得好少,d咖喱不停點來食都食唔晒,個咖喱唔錯呀,又唔係好辣,
d雞有少少少鞋,不過配上咖喱之下幾好味~!
原汁咖喱薯仔羊肉,店主推介既就試下,本身麻麻地羊肉的,不過正宗既印度咖喱多數係用羊肉同雞,so試下,羊肉有少少蘇味,不過係配咖喱之下都唔錯~!
原來真係深井果間分店來,幾年前仲未打blog時食過,好耐了~!
綜合來講味道都唔錯,價錢亦合理,店主同侍應都好有禮貌好親切,喱個真係要加分呀,值得一試既餐廳~!

最近好想食印度菜, 本來想食CWB - 阿拉丁, 但諗起多人又5 好坐就5 想上。
同朋友睇過openrice 後最想試呢間
一入到去已經覺得周圍環境都好靚,又少人,完全5 洗等位。
d 畫仲好靚,佈置好有心機,搞到我化身遊客狂影!
開頭送左個Papadum and fried potatoes.
綠色sauce 有d 辣,紅色就係酸甜! 朋友同我都覺得紅色sauce 好好食!
之後d 菜咩都加d,仲叫佢加多一碟比我地
Love the red sauce!
我地仲叫左2 個Mango Lassi、Cheese Nan、Mixed Grill、Lamb Masala.
Cheese 係5 同平時pizza 果d,係甜甜地ge,可以中和番 Curry d 辣味!好正
Lamb Masala + Nan 都好煙unn,好夾好好味 *^^*
Mixed Grill 就arm 曬想試多d 野ge 朋友! 有魚、雞、羊、羊春卷等。
我地覺得雞+羊都好好好好食! 又香、多汁、又濃味!
魚同羊春卷都不錯
不妨一試。
老闆同d staff 服務都好好,見我地問起,就好詳細甘介紹d 材料、做法同餐廳佈置d 故事比我地聽。
細心又周到! 真係食得好開心。
後來,老闆仲教我地食呢個「餐後清口氣小食」,每樣放d 係手,一次食曬。
第一次知道+食呢樣野,感覺好得意呀!
原來真係好work,仲勁過Eclipse mint.
總結:食物好味+環境靚、舒服 +服務一流,下次一定會再黎。

We came here on a Saturday evening for dinner, after reading some of the reviews here and seeing that it has top ranking in taste among Hong Kong Island Indian restaurants.
We ordered dal Mahkani and a prawn biriyani, a parantha bread and a green onion nan. We also ordered a sweet lassi and a mango lassi.
The lassi's came first. Fresh tasting but otherwise unremarkable. No spice was used in my sweet lassi, so it was just sweet. There were some rose water added but curiously not a hint of rose petal taste. The mango lassi quickly separated into yoghurt and water.
We ordered the chicken biriyani but on recommendation of the head waiter / boss(?) we ordered the prawn biriyani instead. Of course, as expected, it turned out to be shrimps rather than prawns. No problem there. However, the shrimps had no taste at all. Must have been frozen for a long long time. We act one piece of prawns each and left the rest of the prawns untouched. The head waiter should have let us order the chicken biriyani. It is not possible that he does not know the shirmps have been long frozen and tasteless.

去食午餐, 冇咩人... 店主見我地唔係好明d食物名, 佢過黎介紹我地食d咩~~
叫左samosa! 好好食~ 好似咖哩角咁~ 另外我地叫左個唔知咩咖哩... 個餐牌上面食左係辣架, 我地都有叫, 因為自以為食得辣... 但係真係好辣!! 食到流哂汗 haha. 仲有印度飯, 好特別~有一陣特別既香味~
希望佢地做得住!!!遲d會再去, 但係唔會再叫o個個好辣既咖哩
