What a wonderful night, I had an very memeorable bday dinner with me and my gf this lovely little restaurant
my gf and I like to try new and special restaurant, so my gf bring me to Zone D for my bday dinner. First of all, we needed to do some exercise because the restaurant is on the 4th floor with no elevator. So we have to climb some stairs. But when we got there, it's pretty comfortable as the light is romantic and the music is soft. And the waiter who actually is one of the owner, bought us to a glass-walled room which is quite special.
Okay, let's talk about the food. Before the appetizer they served some bread in a some varieties. Usually the restaurant only served plain one, but they served on with different sort. Then we had tuna tartar as the appetizer, it's made of fresh tuna and is a bit spicy, perfect match with the toast that came along.
Then it's the soup, we had Mushroom Cappucino, it's look really cute as it served like a cup of coffee and a spoon of truffle aside (to mix with the soup) and there's 3 cubes of bread which look just like the cube sugar. It's really delicious and it's so rich. Bravo!
We had a prawn linguini, served on a shell, pretty outlook and great creamy sauce!
Actually when we finished the prawn linguini my gf is a little full but we ar so expecting the main course, which there ar 2 main courses for us to choose and me and my gf both choose a different one so we can try more. They served pork and seabass that night, the pork is juicy, nicely cook which the pork is still juicy and smells terrific! Even the potato wedges that came along taste wonderful too! The seabass is good too which wasn’t dry out at all after pan-frying it with such crispy skin!
Last but not least the dessert!!!!!! We ar already so full, we actually sit for 15 mins b4 we order the creme brulee. Dessert is always girls' friends. My gf loved it! They wasn’t too sweet even with the crunchy caramel top. I'm never a fan of dessert but I finished it too, with a little help from my gf ^^
The food & service are not that good, though they are charging over $300 per head. In general, here're our comments:
On the FOOD 1. The starter Beef Capacio was so-so, no art at all 2. Soup was not hot enough, you can feel it's fresh from microwave though 3. The Rissorto was OK 4. The Main Course Cod Fish was not hot at all. You can feel the sauce was fresh from the FRIDGE, not oven! It made us wonder whether Western main course should be served COLD as such 5. Dessert - the chocolate cake tasted extremely SWEET, really against good health 6. Coffee & Tea - sorry, not included! (and how come they can claim itself a full-course dinner? especially with a dessert so sweet, ah, I see, they want us to order separately and get extra money! )
On the SERVICE What's more, we actually booked a table of 11 persons on that night, but the customer service were really not up to standard! What we experienced was really a Nightmare! 1. We made reservations for 11 persons, but it came out that we had 12 persons. The waiter said they won't have extra portion for the additional guest, so we were asked to share food among ourselves, from the appetizer till dessert 2. The table was set in a long rectangular shape. Though we have asked the waiter to re-arrange table setting to make it able to turn around the corner for ease of communication, their response is we cannot do it. Interestingly enough, there were no other guests coming that night, so why can't they be a bit flexible and attend to customer's request 3. When we left the restaurant, we found all our clothes stink with cigarette smell! It's either a smoking restaurant (which is against the govt law) or it's that the waiters smoked a lot and did not care about the smell it will carry in the room. So the customers are left with a stinky smell on all their clothes after the dinner at this FANTASTIC restaurant.
In a nutshell, I would highly recommend you guys not to choose this restaurant, and it's really disappointing!
My husband took me here to celebrate my bday this year. It was a great restaurant, nice food with reasonable price ($300 for 5 course dinner). Highly recommend the mushroom soup and pasta (source is really creamy!)
One suggestion for the restaurant -- is that lightening is too dim..... We don't feel romantic at all... just very sleepy. And no mood to really enjoy the food.
Okay. First of all, remember to go to the 5th floor with the black door. Could save you time waiting outside the wrong door under the hot weather.
I booked the table two weeks back. They called me the day before and told me what the menu of the night would be. They asked if everything was okay for our tastes. I thought that was the beginning of a great dining experience.
My first impression when I walked into the restaurant. It's pretty romatic. The lighting was a little dim and it was mainly black with red table clothes. It could fit roughly 12 people at the main area and there is a private room for around 8 people.
We were greeted by the big brother of the Zone D and offered cold / warm water as soon as we were seated.
We didn't have to wait long until the bread arrived. I am not a big bread eater but the bread was full of aroma. They provided us butter and balsamic vinegar. I prefer the white bread with vinegar and the brown bread with butter.
The first course as a seared tuna salad. It was quite refreshing, They told me that it was pepper tuna but I couldn't taste much of that, but I thought it was better that way as I couldn't have tasted the fish if the dressing was too heavy. It tasted refreshing and was a good choice of starter.
The second course was what they called mushroom cappuccino. It was basically a cream of mushroom soup with black truffle. The black truffle was served separately on a spoon and the soup was served in a cup. There were also croutons on the side. I smelt the truffle paste first before mixing with the soup. It was not as aromatic as the one I tasted before but then last time I had it, it was freshly shaved which came with a price. I mixed it lightly with the soup. It was very very light which came to my surprise. I could taste the mushroom first and then the subtle taste of black truffle comes out. It was perfect. Reminds me of Tuscany.
The third course was clam spaghetti. I was expecting a pasta with clam and oilve oil, but it was actually came with a creamy clam sauce. There were clams, mushroom and garlic in it. I loved the taste of the garlic. It was very nicely presented on a scallop shell and they used mashed potato to hold the shell in place. My boyfriend thought it was the best dish of the night even though he is more a fan of meaty pasta than a seafood lover.
The main course was a choice of two. Pan fried white fish (couldn't remember what the name was but the texture was similar to sea bass) with a vinegar sauce or spring chickn served with baked potatoes. We decided that we wanted to try both since the food had been way above expectation.
My fish came first. It was served on mashed potatoes and with tomato puree on top and a black vinegar sauce around the plate. The fish was very smooth and cooked just right. I liked the slightly sour sauce with it that gave me a twist from the creamy tasted from the last two courses. The mashed potatoes was good too. It was lightly seasoned and I liked it less smooth.
We had the chicken leg. It was well seasoned and the skin was slightly crispy and not dry. The meat was tender. I didn't get to try the potatoes though.
The last course was the dessert obviously. It was creme brulee with strawberries on the side. I could tell that they burnt the sugar just before they brought it to us because the top layer of the creme brulee was warm while the bottom was slighly chilled. I though they could have made the sugar layer a bit thinner, but the custard was good. It was rich and full of egg flavour which was a good match with the slighly sour strawberries.
We were both very satisfied with the meal. It was good surprise throughout the meal. I couldn't resist asking about the chef. The one who takes the reservation is the big brother and the chef is the little brother. They are called Lew and Sean. Apparently Sean worked in various hotels and restaurants before opening his own place. The restaurant is called Zone D because that's the same pronounciation as brothers in Mandarin.
I am trying to find an excuse to go back sometime soon. I would be exaggerating if I said it was the best Italian place town, but I would have to struggle to find a better place for 300 dollars each.
I had a great father's day celebration in Zone-D. You can't imagine a old building can cover that lovely restaurant. The atmosphere and mood are stylish. The main colour tone over there is black and white. There are not much decoration but simple is the best (specially in busy city). May be few abstract paintings to add should be perfect. The truffle mushroom soup was really good.It look like a cappuccino, the breads were made to a sugar cube shape. That was a very amazing presentation. The main course was a salmon, the taste was prefect, crispy skin and juicy fish!! Over all the food were great, just a cuttlefish was little bit less tasty. O... I have to mention the Crème brûlée was delicious, which is the best I ever try in hk! The price is reasonable for a 5 course Italian dinner. Worth to spend and worth to try.
I went there couple days ago for a friend's birthday dinner. The stairs were killing me coz the restaurant is at the forth floor of an old building with no elevator! It took me awhile to settle down after the "exercise" but I have to say I was quite surprised by the comfy environment, as it is totally different from the stairs and the building. The restaurant is mainly renovated in the color of black, white and red (very Italian romantic tone). The menu was designed by the chef, so I don't really have any idea of what were we going to eat. It was a five course dinner, overall the portion is huge. Despite I'm a girl, I believe the food is more than enough for any guy. Appetiser was a salmon patê with a slice of toast. The taste was good but it was kinda creamy if eating alone. So it would be better if more toast was provided. Then we had a truffle mushroom soup. Actually I like the soup the most because the decoration was so cute, it was presented as if it was a cup of cappucino. The chef even put three cubes of bread crumb on a side (pretended sugar cube). Prawn spaghetti with alfredo sauce is good but since all the food we had before were all creamy stuffs, so I was super full already at this point of time. However, this is not the end of the dinner, we still got a rib-eye to go. The steak itself was juicy and tasty but it was a bit over cooked. Dessert was cream brulee but I just had one bite of it. I bet you all know it was not about the quality but the quantity. Overall, everything is excellent and I think it's worth for the walking up stairs.
其實個名幾特別, zone-d, sounds like 兄弟 in mandarin? Environment was OK, it was half full that night. I ordered 2 set dinners, the 2 apetizers are pretty good, hot one is Italian soup, the beans are soft and the spaghetti inside is chewy the green salad is fresh too. For main course, I had lamb chop and girl friend had fish (silver cod), the silver cod is nice, mine is so so.

Good!

Menu,

Reminds me of Tuscany
