Just felt like having a buffet on a weekday, and not wasting the opportunities being located in the heart of hotels, pubs and great restaurants.
Anyway, came on a quiet wintery day according to the locals not cold to me, but with freezing cold air-con in the restaurant mimicking real winter!!
The food variety was just as Mandalay described, but not much selection on sushi, the desserts were good, and the photo explains everything. I appreciated the drinks were labelled Hong Kong Tea, and the normal tea hence catered internationally.
Have been curious about their salmon lunch buffet and came here finally to try it out. This place was the first port of call for the outbreak of swine flu in Hong Kong, and there was a lot of ho-hum when it happened, although I must confess I was also guilty of avoiding the area during the period in question. Since coming out of its porky predicament, I noticed they have been making subtle changes here and there from what can be seen of their lobby.
Back to the food. the restaurant is on the mezzanine floor, with a long row of tables by the window, one of which we got. The food was displayed neatly and was well-iluminated. From memory, the spread consisted of:
(1) Cold dishes: A plate of piled-up salmon sashimi and another kind of white fish sashimi. The other dishes were: two or three types of pre-made salads, some cut-up tomatoes, green leaves with the requisite types of salad dressing, some suspiciou-looking Californian sushi rolls. They also had a strange taro-based soup I heard.
(2) Hot dishes: an imitation spaghetti carbonara that was dripping with cream, a carvery of roast beef and a roast leg of lamb, and five or six other tidbits like Chinese-style steamed chicken, sliced duck breast, Vietnamese shrimp meat on sugar cane (eh?!), fried Chinese vegetables, and even dim sum-style steamed beef (god knows why these where there lol).
(3) Sweets: there was a large variety, although the quality was by and large sub-par. A glass cabinet showcased little shot glasses and dinky dishes of desserts, and there were a few cut cakes on offer. Four different flavours of ice cream were available too, as was Chinese grass jelly, cut fruit, and even freshly-made hot waffles at the food station. The most interesting thing was the Halloween-themed desserts: brains in blood (some kind of custard in strawberry jam that tasted really bad and I had to leave it), a graveyard chocolate mousse, and some pumpkin-faced mango mousse. Not a bad effort, at least it was pleasing to the eye if anything else.
The quoted price was $118, and no 10% service charge was added to our bill. It was not a high price to pay for a bit of curious investigation. But I would only come back if the same curious spirit visits me again AND if I want a decent place to pick and choose my food in relative peace and quiet.

salad
Tiramisu:
