if you're looking for a gourmet cheeseburger (not mcdonalds, burger king) then you should try this place.
after trying the angus cheddar burger at 798 i put it near the top of my list which includes Father's Office in Los Angeles and In N Out. (yes i like In N Out that much)
if you're a homesick american like myself, give 798 a try and ONLY order the angus cheddar burger! it costs around 120 HK i think? the side of gigantic onion rings (think tempura batter) was forgettable. the burger itself was one of the best.
I can't recall the last time I was here, maybe over a year ago or so. All I remembered was that I have not been back ever since for various reasons. Tonight, two friends and I decided to pay this place a visit. The decor of this restaurant (which applies to its TST outlet as well) carries a French Bistro style with a very soft and mild ambiance. The tile floor along with chalk board menu adds an extra touch of the authenticity to the whole atmosphere. What I found interesting was the choice of songs playing in the background. For example, 98 Degrees and Backstreet Boys ! These songs certain brought back some memories indeed. (1) Salad of smoked trout, brie, mango & baby greens A very refreshing salad especially with the diced mango on top. The tofu like rectangular looking thing was the brie and in terms of texture and flavors, it was rather ... humm ... interesting when eating it together with the mango. The same applies when eating the mango with the smoked trout. In my opinion, there was too much of a contrast in flavors when eating the so-called main ingredients together.
(2) Manila Clams (in white wines, cream & parley sauce) The sauce was great, not too creamy and very rich in flavor. A lot of places tend to pour too much white wine during the making of the sauce, causing it overly strong with the wine flavor. Thumbs up on the sauce. However, the clams were a bit disappointing for me. For the few that I tried, they were not very fresh based on my experiences with seafood, both raw and cooked.
(3) Baked Portobella mushroom Contrary to my expectation, nothing special about this dish. The flavor of the mushroom was a bit too salty and texture wise it very dry; definitely over-baked. Thumbs down. Very disappointing.
(4) Slow-baked oxtail risotto Flavors were rich and it was great. The shredded oxtail were soft and tender. However, the risotto was overcooked. While it was creamy, the texture of the rice was too soft and lacked the chewy texture to it. Also, it was slightly too salty.
(5) Oven Roasted Long Bone Beef Short Ribs Wow. When it was served, we all shouted "wow" together because it was huge! It was close to 48oz at least. Now I know why the words "Long Bone" were there on the menu. What a Ironic name tough, Long Bone ... Short Ribs ! Good that we were sharing this otherwise there was just no ways any one of us can finish it. We ordered it medium and medium it was. It was well roasted and the salt & spices were applied very evenly as well. Even the outer layer of the short ribs remained relatively tender after being roasted for a while. A well prepared dish and we all enjoyed it very much. A note of caution, in order to cut through this short ribs, prepare to use a lot of energy because I think it took me more effort than to cut a turkey!
(6) French Fries Fries were freshly prepared and it came in a tin can similar to the Press Room. It came with ketchup and some gravy which was a nice touch. If they can be lighter on the salt it would be even better. I liked it but not as much as those from the Press Room. I personally prefer thinner fries. Potato wedge, on the other hand, is another story because I don't consider them fries. Wedges are Wedges !
(7) Mango-passion fruit & coconut trifle An interesting dessert with Honey-Lemongrass sorbet on top. I really liked the sorbet because I like lemongrass and the sorbet has a very rich flavor of it as well. The jello-like texture of the orange and white layers were of mango and passion fruits flavors respectively. I could not really taste the coconut, likely due to the rich mango flavor. Together with the honey lemongrass sorbet, it was a very refreshing dessert on such a hot summer night.
(8) Creme brulee It was surprisingly well prepared. Not too rich with the vanilla flavor and not too thick / creamy with its texture. The caramelized layer on top was evenly done and was crisp through out the whole dish. Not bad at all.

I have always been drawn to this restaurant by its atmosphere and the food has maintained its standard throughout these years. Its new American menu for July certainly served as the perfect excuse for another visit.
Hand-cut Fries with Cheddar Cheese and Gravy - the fries were actually grilled with good quality cheese on top
Mac & Cheese with half a Boston Lobster - lobster was pretty fresh and well seasoned, cheese was awesome!
Angus Burger with Onion Rings - burger was a bit salty...
Didn't order the mushroom soup this time around, but I would highly recommend it!

餐前包- 有點冷和硬, 感覺不是太良好...但是因為肚子餓, 都吃了一塊
香芒芝士沙律- 這個是ok 的, 菜都很新鮮, 芒果也很甜, 將芒果芝士用菜包在一起吃, 簡直perfect; 但美之不足的是, 芝士的味道不夠濃, 如果用發霉芝士就更好, 但當然, 可能不是人人也能接受得到
鴨肝面包- 我和朋友仔都喜愛食鴨肝的, 這裡的鴨肝都很不錯呀, 我們都吃得很滿足
香腸併盤- 我也超愛吃香腸, 這裡的味首不錯, 有四款不同香腸, 任君選擇, 稍嫌份量不夠
德國豬手- 這裡所有的食物我們都頗為滿意, 但我卻不能給這間餐廳一個笑臉, 原因就在這一隻豬手!!!!
這一隻豬手應該是炸得太長時間了, 導致沒有肉汁, 很乾, 而且皮也很硬..... 皮不脆對於豬手來說真是一件十分錯的事, 有些皮甚至到我都放棄, 避免牙痛~
總的來說, 這一間餐廳都很不錯, 但大家之後叫菜可以避免豬手而改叫其他主菜

環境是輕鬆隨意
談得盡興的一夜
踏入秋季,周街都有啤酒節的宣傳,如這裡也有個german oktober,就趁是日跟舊同學的聚會,來了這裡。
很喜歡這裡的氣氛,地方好坐,令人覺得輕鬆,毫不拘謹。我們坐在餐廳外邊的圓檯,很不錯。是晚周六,人客一點不少,而眼見大多數也是吃這個「啤酒節十月」的。侍應拿來餐前麵包,是烘熱了的法包,塗上牛油,簡單而好吃。
喝的當然是生啤,在幾個選擇中,選了盧雲堡。不是純因為應節,而是斯時點盧雲堡會贈送香腸一份,而且份量不少的,所以就一式過,要了這款德國啤。可惜我明早還要操練,教練吩咐,十二小時內不能碰酒精,所以只好飲凍檸茶;
雖然我沒喝啤酒,但也要為喝啤酒的朋友打點,就來一客煎薯餅。薯餅煎得香口之餘,加上一隻煎蛋,美味;也要了烤豬手,這裡的烤豬手比較細隻,外皮脆,廋肉的部份比較韌了一點,但帶筋又或是肥肉的部份就甘香豐腴,一啖啤酒,一口豬手,人生一樂也。也要了蘋果酥餅,配合奶油汁,不到兩下手勢,已經全部吃清,值得一試。
埋單每人一百五十,不算很貴,服務及食物也甚有水準。在輕鬆的環境下,傾了近兩句鐘,大家交換近況,也希望朋友能化險為夷。

五個人的午餐,其中二人只join了吃dessert,要了三個set lunch:
1) mushroom pizza w/ pizza: 呢個pizza好正,芝士勁厚,菇又爽
2) tandoori chicken: 這個印度包是看見隔離檯有,看似很吸引就order了,但個包是不熱的,我這個愛包的人當然要減它的分。包夾tandoori chicken後可配mint yogurt, lemon jam 等sauce,tandoori chicken味道就尚可。onion rings朋友很喜歡,但我覺得太太太油了,油得恐怖
3) beef sandwich: 這個我沒有吃,但朋友說幾好
三個set lunch也加$20轉另外的dessert,分別是:
1) lime cheese cake: 個cake一來我還想『咁細既?』原來這個size是可以了,因為實在太full喇,我們平分五份都滯死。味道還可以,沒有什麼特別
2) signature banoffee pie: 一致認為最正! 原來香蕉有焦糖是那麼好味。果然是798的signature dessert。
3) bread pudding w/ sea salt gelato: 朋友看到有『sea salt』,所以我就被『sea salt』個字吸引了,去完沖繩後在港吃了兩次海鹽雪糕也找不回沖繩的味道,雖然我不expect在western restaurant拇到okinawan sea salt ice-cream,但也想試試!結果:只可吃一口,因為實在太咸,不知道為什麼bread pudding會served w/ sea salt gelato. bread pudding不夠軟,朋友說她可弄更好吃的,不過我就很喜歡上層crispy的部份,非常脆,又『lone lone地』!

這次飯局地點是太座提議的,屬美式餐廳。適逢德國啤酒節,餐廳就嚟一個cross-over,以德國菜為主打。前菜係sausage sampler (half, $68),有四款肉腸,包括烏克蘭豬肉腸(Ukrainian pork sausage)、慕尼黑白肉腸 (Munich weisswurst)、德國臘腸(Thuringer bratwurst)等。Thuringer bratwurst 嘅特點係有辣味,味道濃烈;烏克蘭肉腸及慕尼黑肉腸比較原味,味道冇咁濃烈。傳統上,肉腸以炭火燒最惹味。此店嘅肉腸不似是用炭火燒,而是煎的,風味有折扣,但味道也是可口的。附上嘅麵包,堅硬無比,食得很費勁,幸好牛油很有奶香,是想食牛油多過想食麵包。
主食以一沙律、一份豬扒及risotto構成。野菌沙律($78)嘅蔬菜不是求其幾片西生菜,好似火箭菜都不少。野菌爽脆,香味則差少少;南瓜帶子意大利飯($138),入口有南瓜嘅清甜味,口感煙韌,而且意大利飯造得夠creamy,不錯!帶子感覺也是爽脆,材料新鮮;厚切豬扒($128)是此店其中一款signature dish,初見如此厚嘅豬扒,應該很難處理,弄得不好肉質如沙紙般鞋口,喊都無謂。不過當筆者切了一小塊入口咀嚼過後,疑慮全消。肉質是意外的嫩滑多汁,而且有豐富嘅豬肉鮮味,雖然附上蜜糖芥末汁,但味道香濃,不用點汁已經非常可口了
飯後各人嗌了一款甜品,筆者選了荔枝奶凍($50),太座是蘋果酥皮卷($48),友人則是大路的心太軟($55)。奶凍上加了幾塊蜜餞杏甫,是一大敗筆。雖知道後者味道濃烈,吃了以後,奶凍顯得淡然無味
後至嘅友人J叫了一杯紅酒($58),埋單共銀七百二十七蚊,平均每人二百四十二蚊。由於有酒吧,環境頗嘈雜,但可以高談闊論,是令一番情趣。服務員也是勤勞工作,簡單嘅點菜不用筆錄也能準確無誤地落單。見其他客人大部份都有點香草燒雞,想必是美食之一,下次一定要試一下。

豬扒好味道
上次同朋友食過覺得佢D野幾好味同埋個環境幾好。
今日見得3個人食就叫左豬排、grill肉眼扒、mac&cheese with half lobster。
個豬扒保持到水準,一D都實,好鬆軟,配埋個汁好味道;
佢個配菜青蘋薯仔沙津開胃同埋無上次咁酸。
個grill肉眼扒叫左7成熟,點知泥到一砌個陣發現全熟,
叫個侍應泥想叫佢換,佢一見到就話「熟晒喎」,佢即刻去換個碟泥;
新個塊真係岩岩好7成,同埋好有grill既味道。
而個mac&cheese with half lobster,個lobster幾新鮮。
餐後又係送左個棉花糖,由於上次個個好難食,所以今次我無食。
我最中意佢個豬扒,係第二到食唔。

心不太流, 味道正常
1. 服務不錯,waiters反應快,有善。
2. 選擇多,由light 既三文治set 到executive lunch 都有。
3. 份量足,每個dish 既份量都不會太少。
4. 水準一致,不會有些dishes 很好, 有些很差的情況。
5. 價錢合理:由 60 幾到130 幾。
彈:
1. 沒有軟墊的椅子很硬, 不舒服。
2. 門口太開揚,影響室內privacy。

Just a good meal!!
剛剛這次是girl's dinner,4個女生都打扮得美美的來一邊品嚐美食一邊傾計談天~4人可以點的食物種類又多又不會太貴,真好呢~~~按上菜次序來吧:
舒服的環境,親切的侍應哥哥(3,4次見到我們影相會主動幫我們合照,又好禮貌),加上不會叫人失望的食物和合理的價錢,我知道我會來試完所有的美食的!!!好幸福呀~~~~~^O^

原來10點後有set dessert~ " dessert + tea" 都係$55.....
和朋友叫了 panna cotta +bread pudding & sea salt ice-cream~
之前同fd 來過...都好鐘意這裏的甜品~! 特別係bread pudding +sea salt ice-cream~!~
我就另外叫左杯 Caribbean Martini~入囗有種辣ga感覺~

閒hea星期天~
今次選擇到了798 unit & co用膳
星期天晚上。。七點到達。。只有幾台客
比想像中少人~
餐廳燈光較陰,坐位也不算太迫夾
還播放很多耳熟能詳的blackstreet boy,氣氛不俗
當天晚上。。前菜點了香蒜羊仔柳,main course有厚切豬排和牛尾飯
一開始黎左個法式麵包。。
由於個法包挺硬。。。想問個waiter拎牛油刀
但係佢答我呢度一向都係用餐刀。。。。
咁大把刀用黎塗牛油。。實在奇怪一點
羊仔柳的香料味道較濃,對於前菜來說。。份量可能多了一點
個人比較喜歡厚切豬排的醬汁。。酸酸甜甜的,挺開胃
至於牛尾飯,口感像意大利飯,比較濕,但味道不錯
吃過主菜,朋友仔在餐牌上見到至愛的甜品brownie。。
誰知。。。。。。waiter話剛剛賣晒。。。
其實果陣都係8點幾。。甜品黎講都算太早無晒。。
令朋友仔失望之極!!!
Anyway,希望下次再黎既時候有機會叫返補返數啦~哈
最後賣單。。。用了一隻普通餐碟黎放張單。。
又令我很“大開眼界“呢。。。

A very refreshing salad especially with the diced mango on top. 我地一入去就有紅白酒揀,我地揀左紅,因為襯之後食既野嘛。d包係主辦人係法國帶來既,好好味,d牛油又香,但同呢間野無關。到正題,首先係starter,係escargot同pate。個escargot實在太鹹,連普通餐廳都冇佢整得咁鹹,有d失敗。個pate就幾好,預左鹹,但好似eason話齋,好"潤",唔知一般餐廳咁有陣鹹牛肉味。之後個係洋蔥湯,亦都唔錯,幾甜,而且個包幾好味,包上d芝士好香。個主菜就麻麻, 一個係beef tenderloin,都幾嫩既,但個鴨肶就唔掂啦,好似臘鴨咁,鹹到嘔。最後個甜品係bread pudding,好香奶味,但可惜之前食得太飽,個pudding都食唔晒。

叫左加州salad,燒雞同炸洋蔥圈.
個salad,,真係好普通,,普通到不行.
燒雞,個樣好靚呀,,都幾香,但食落唔太得,,冇咩味..大家樂d扒好食好多= =
炸洋蔥圈...唉,苦,一吉落去散開晒!
不過環境真係唔錯,,如果淨係去飲野應該幾好feel.下次會同bb去飲野instead of食野!

星期六也有set lunch (mon-sat)
1) club sandwich set
- club sandwich: 用5-grain bread, 都幾healthy. 雞肉、bacon烤得都幾香。不過蛋是荷包蛋就有點兒奇怪, overall 都 ok 啦。薯條好粗, 正!
- vege salad: 新鮮菜弄什麼也好吃吧, 不過黑醋太少喇, 有點乾, 有點不夠味
- drink: 熱檸水, 特別之處在於 waiter 給了一杯糖我 (見相) …
- bread: 沒有水份的餐包, 幾經辛苦才能將它撕開… 唔掂
- mousse cake: strawberry mousse 好味, 而不愛mousse的朋友也覺不錯, 重 strawberry 味之餘又有點 yoghurt 味, 也不過甜. 底部的蛋糕很普通
2) oxtail risotto set
- oxtail risotto: 通常吃 risotto 也是cheese/creamy sauce, 這個用酒的汁味道很好, 飯不會過硬(最怕risotto的飯是『生』的) 。我未吃過牛尾, 味道像牛腩, 但是它像已『手撕』的牛腩, 整碟 risotto 濕濕地, good.
- soup of the day (spinach): 喝了一口, 味道不錯, 朋友也說好味
- soft drink: 不知道為什麼有 additional 一杯 soft drink. 要了 coke
- another drink: 朋友要了 iced lemon tea, 有半杯也是冰 =.=
- bread: 如上
- mousse cake: 如上
過份豐富的 lunch, 好飽
環境很 relaxing (不過間中給朋友的 bb 叫聲『中和』了
