新的"星空奇遇記:黑域時空"就快上映,身為"星空奇遇記"迷的我當然會去觀看! 但除了到電影院,現在到灣仔駱克道的COYOTE BAR & GRILL 都同樣可以感受到氣氛,因為餐廳最近推出了一個以星空奇遇記為主題的菜單,每道菜式都以電影的角色來命名,而且還跟醬汁公司TABASCO合作,所以每樣食物都有點辣,實在很夠"刺激"!雖然COYOTE給人的印象主要是個喝酒的地方,但這次菜式的味道很不錯,價錢也很合理,想在灣仔找地方吃飯的話不防試試!
Coyote Bar & Grill is a Mexican restaurant and bar located in the heart of Wanchai. The restaurant has two floors, with the bar located on the ground floor and a dining area located upstairs.
With an upbeat atmosphere and a good selection of food and drinks, this restaurant and bar is a popular venue which is usually bustling throughout the entire week. Last week, I went there for a preview of the Star Trek Into Darkness promotional menu, which will be available from 13 May 2013 to 9 June 2013. As a Star Trek fan, I was really excited about the meal, as each dish was named after a character in the movie. Besides a Star Trek theme, Tabasco brand sauces are also used in each of the dishes and drinks, so be prepared for a spicy kick!
(1) We started off with Captain Kirk's Chicken Wings (HOT) ($75). The six pieces of USA chicken, tossed in a Tabasco habanero sauce, were full of flavour in each bite and were tender and moist in the middle. Their flavours were complemented by a jalapeno and cilantro dip, which was creamy and delicious. Beware though - the chicken really was very hot!
(2) The tiger prawns in Scotty's Skewers ($98) were well marinated and nicely grilled, and the chorizo and tomatoes also added bright notes to the dish. The Tabasco infused cocktail sauce, which tasted a bit like ketchup as it was a tad sweet, was excellently garlicky.
(3) As Spock is quite a character, this Spock's Seafood Paella ($178) also had exotic tastes to match the personality of its namesake. The paella, slow cooked in a Tabasco spiced tomato sauce, was a tad too mushy and soft, but the flavouring was awesome - a hint of sourness and spiciness made it incredibly moreish. The seafood, such as the mussels, prawns and squids, were also satisfyingly fresh, and a dash of lime juice lifted the flavours of the dish.
(4) Sulu's Sea Bass ($175) exceeded our expectations. The pan-seared, cumin-crusted fish was dry and crunchy on the surface, while still tender and juicy underneath. It was served with sautéed yam, oregano potatoes and garlic spinach, all cooked to a great texture. The sauce was a Tabasco brand chipotle béarnaise, which worked well with the fish.
(5) The Ibarra Fudge Brownie ($55) was warm, buttery and soft, and was fantastically matched with an icy scoop of vanilla ice cream. (This dessert is on the normal à la carte menu.)
(6) I tried a Star Trek-themed cocktail, Mango Uhura ($68), made with white rum, lime juice, mango purée, a dash of Tabasco brand pepper sauce and a splash of soda. It was syrupy and fruity, but also had a fiery spicy kick; I liked how the spiciness was balanced out by the sweetness of the drink.
Have you seen this chair at Coyote before? This is "The Barber Chair", and the person sitting on it will have drinks tilted down their throat! Unsurprisingly, people who sit on this chair are almost never volunteers - they are often sponsored by their friends.
The food at this down-to-earth restaurant and bar was surprisingly decent. The downstairs bar area might be too noisy for an intimate dinner, so you could consider booking a table in the second-floor dining area, which is quieter and more spacious. This menu seems to be a pretty tasty, interesting and spicy way to celebrate the release of Star Trek Into Darkness in Hong Kong!
Coyote Bar & Grill is not unfamiliar to me as I occasionally walk in for an impromptu Corona drinking session, but I must admit I haven't really taken much notice of the food here before. Thanks to J & V's invitation, I finally realised that I have been missing out all this time! Although at first glance the food looks undoubtedly Americanised Mexican and more resembling Tex-Mex in style (always recognisable when you see orange cheeses and minced beef on the menu), I was taken aback that some of the dishes here were undoubtedly more Cal-Mex or traditional Mexican in style. It seems to run the gamut and there were actually dishes on the menu which sounded more promising that what we ate tonight.
What intrigued me the most is their very rare to find Mesquite Grill, used here to house smoke their fish and meats, even though they now use Hickory instead of Mesquite for this purpose.

Chili Sauces - There is a substantial selection of Chili Sauces available here for purchasing but also available for tasting for FREE here. This is one of it's biggest attractions. Try as many as you want.

Samba - Gold Tequila, Triple Sec, Lime Juice, Malibu Rum & Pineapple Juice - Golden Margarita A nicely balanced drink in an exotic way. A bit granita like which might give brain freezes but great for cooling down the hot chili sauces!

Quesadilla with Chicken - This was quite cheesy, and unexpectedly squarishly cut rather than into pie triangles. Quite decent indeed although a little too thin in presentation. ~ 7/10

Smoked Pulled Pork Chimichangas - $158 These chimichangas were the highlight, although looking a bit round and more like spring rolls tonight! As mentioned, their Mesquite-Hickory Grill is used to smoked the meat themselves, and it is very smoky. Just order this and you won't regret it if you miss the smoky type of food from South West.

Nachos Simpatico - $105 Using the shelf bought not the bubbly fried Nacho chips, Guacamole avocado, Black Beans, Sour Cream and Pico de Gallo with an abundance of Cheddar cheese just screamed Tex-Mex... This is a popular dish but I think needed more cheese and black beans ~ 6/10

Fajitas - Rosemary Marinated Baby Lamb, Yogurt Marinated Chicken Breast - $160 to $195 The Fajitas on this side of the table came with some lovely Sour Cream, Apple and Mint Salsa, and Mango & Lime Salsa, but you can also order the other usuals such as Pico de Gallo, Chipotle Mayo, Jalapeno & Roasted Garlic Dips, etc. The flour tortilla were steamed nicely soft at the edges, which is a plus. The lamb was cooked medium-rare looking very smart! They ate very well too, in fact this is probably one of the best fajitas I've had! The yogurty chicken was also pretty decent but a bit over-shadowed by the perfectly seared lamb. ~ 9/10
Mango & Lime Salsa, Sour Cream and Apple & Mint Salsa - These were quite good actually for use on the Fajitas, especially on the seafood options..

Fajita of Prawns Wrapped in Prosciutto - $185 This was grilled until the prosciutto developed a bacon like taste. ~ 7/10

Seared Sea Scallops - $185 The scallops were surprisingly on the small side, and needed to develop more of a seared surface I think? ~ 5/10

Fish Bowls - $488 each These might be pricey but they were GINORMOUS ! They also have an abundance of alcohol, and a few friends can share one. Very interesting drink although I think they could charge cheaper so more customers will order one, just as a gimmick ?

Caramel Flan - $55 Came looking quite pretty with a hint of cointreau. Quite smooth but needs more egginess. ~ 7/10

Ibarra Fudge Brownie - $55 Served warm and once again punching above its weight for the price vs taste & presentation. This was actually very good, very moist and chocolaty and warm. This dessert really surprised me as so many other shops serving this fail miserably. Excellent. ~ 10/10

The mostly Texas Mexican style food with a few other Mexican styles thrown in was overall was actually done surprisingly well here, it's not just normal pub grub! At least the execution was spot-on, just look back at that perfectly seared lamb with a pink centre, very smoky and tender pulled pork inside the chimichangas, or the gorgeous Ibarra Fudge Brownie dessert. I didn't really like the scallops fajita though.

集酒吧及食店於一身的墨西哥菜館子
說店家認真,其實不單只在南美式的歌舞表演,光是看看那Wall of Flame,就知道店家是有多麼的認真,素知墨西哥愛吃辣,也能吃辣,集合各式各樣的辣椒汁,比起我們只懂Tabasco,說來嗜辣的我實在也興奮無比了。
另外一款小吃貌似廣東人常吃的春卷,其實名為Smoked Pulled Pork Chimichangas,這款小吃其實就連美國南部的人也喜歡吃,不過人家通常會用上Tortilla包着各式醬汁及肉吃,所以絕對不會如春卷狀的樣子,說回其味道,是日的這個版本實在很適合嗜肉的人仕,裡頭醬汁不多,但就充滿了絲絲的豬肉,豬肉本身香料味足,然而也還吃到芝士,如此的香脆小吃,試問又怎會難吃?
Prawns Wrapped in Prosciutto感覺有點怪

Queen Bee,這一道用上了真蜜糖沖調而成的Cocktail,喝起來真的有蜜糖味,配上開胃的新鮮青檸汁,在配方中加入Triple Sec來提供多一重的生果香,既有橙又有青檸的酸香,輔以主軸的龍舌蘭酒,令酒體富有一種龍舌蘭獨有的香味,喜歡喝Tequilla而又怕苦的朋友,這杯Cocktail實在是大家的入門途徑。
喝了杯易入口的Queen Bee,也喜歡喝烈酒的我,就來上一杯味道較直接的Margarita on Rock,雖然說是On Rock的東西,不過南美系的這杯雞尾酒,始終不失熱帶風情,除了龍舌蘭酒外,也有Triple Sec及其他的Orange Flavour的Liqueur,加上青檸汁,所以喝起來也挺酸,沒有了蜜糖的滋潤下,個人認為這杯酒的酒味還是不夠突出,個人認為龍舌蘭酒的香味可以再出一點,那就更好了。
另外本人也嚐過帶車厘子味的The Pink Taco,但這沙冰一入口,一陣冰涼過後,融了的沙冰就告訴我的味蕾,這杯東西有着強大的藥水味,喝了一口就投降了。
另外一款的沙冰名為The Suzy Wong,其實就是芒果味Margarita沙冰,這一杯的味道比起之前的車厘子味,實在是差太遠,入口陣陣冰涼的芒果甜香,加上一陣獨特的生果香味,原來當中也混入了石榴,所以味道既討好又複雜,教人喝完一口又一口。
Caramel Flan還算不賴;Ibarra Fudge Brownie比較普通
Ibarra Fudge Brownie,其實跟一般的Brownie沒多大分別,可能店家是用了墨西哥的Ibarra Brand巧克力棒為原料,才幫它改了這個名字吧,是日這件Brownie吃入口硬身了一點點,但巧克力味豐富,個人雖然想少甜一點,但反正伴雲呢拿雪糕都是甜的了,這個問題其實又不太大,總之入口滿滿的巧克力味及雲呢拿味,也沒什麼好再要求太多了。
真的想不到人在酒吧林立的駱克道,一邊在這個場的Bar喝杯酒的同時,也有不少地道墨西哥的燒烤菜來吃,一班朋友開開心心的過一個晚上,真的不錯,最後在此再次多謝店家PR的邀請。

熱情十足的墨西哥風味
因為我在香港也吃過好吃的墨西哥菜, 就是在coyote bar and grill
當天晚上超熱鬧的人好多, 我們亦試了不少墨西哥的美味菜式
先來這款小吃, 脆的外皮夾著雞肉跟芝士, 薄薄一片很香口
用來作佐酒小吃非常不錯
很像我們春卷的一款, 裡面的是pulled pork手撕豬肉
豬肉以墨西哥醬料煮過, 十分惹味, 脆的外皮配上美味的內餡非常好吃
我非常喜歡吃的nachos, 這裡的nachos很大一碟, 配以香濃的牛油果醬跟芝士
香脆惹味, 喜歡吃nachos的我真的吃不停口呢
fajita是在墨西哥很想吃的美食, 泛指鐵版煎烤類的食物
通常會連醬料跟薄餅皮包在一起吃的, 當晚試了四碟fajita, 每款都好吃
這個是四款中我比較不喜歡的一款, 雞肉比較乾
但整碟都很香, 尤其是洋蔥的味道很香呢
帶子有點過熟, 但味道也是很香, 喜歡作底的黃紅椒
這款羊肉不錯, 肉質很嫩, 而且也有肉汁
加上迷迭香的香草味道, 跟醬料包在薄餅裡面吃我蠻喜歡的
蝦球蠻大塊的, 也煮得非常香, 很喜歡醬汁的味道
一大個的margarita, 好像魚缸那樣大. 當晚試了車厘子跟芒果味
個人很喜歡喝芒果口味的, 芒果味酸甜的味道很開胃
焦糖布丁蠻好吃的, 焦糖香是有但再強一點點會更好
巧克力味道也算濃的, 也不會說很乾
對這裡的食物有驚喜呢, 因為之前還以為是酒吧的話東西應該不會好吃的那裡去
結果這裡的墨西哥菜還真好吃, 很多都做得很惹味
下次如果想吃東西跟喝酒的話還是會再來
