Boyfriend wanted to try this place as it was a finalist on Openrice and he was curious. During the day, it's a normal cha chan teng. But when the sun goes down....it's a hustling restaurant serving seafood and other local dishes. There was a line but since there was only two of us and we were willing to share a table with strangers, we got a table quickly. Menu was big with plenty of pictures so even if you can't read Chinese, you have photos of all their food!We ordered two dishes. Food came out

We ordered two dishes. Food came out quickly.
Plum sauce spare ribs was so sweet, if you can get a cavity from eating pork, this is it. They used so much maltose, when I picked one up with my chopsticks, the sauce strung out like melted cheese on pizza. Usually, I love eating the canned fruit, but the sauce was so sweet, I couldn't put it in my mouth without gagging. I wolfed down so much rice to get rid of the over sweetness of this dish.
Champion tofu was described as tofu sliced like triangles and steamed with fish, vermicelli and shrimp. It was recommended by a past review that said the tofu was silky smooth and full of soybean taste. When it arrived, there was no fish but what appeared to be one scallop diced up and black bean sauce was layered on top on one side. However, shrimp and vermicelli was present. The tofu was one package of Pak Fook tofu and we all know what that tastes like. You can still see the imprint from the package on my photo. At least the shrimp was fresh.
I guess if you lived in this area and was too lazy to cook that evening and just wanted dinner that wasn't fast food or cha chan teng and cheap, then this place is ok. But for me, who travelled a good half hour on mtr, it just wasn't as good as everyone said.
It also wasn't very hygienic. I saw they stored containers of raw oysters next to bottles of beer. All in the same fridge as the soda. Boyfriend reasoned that at least it was all sealed, but it's a rule of thumb to always separate raw food from non raw food. I was disgusted.
Not worth a trip back.
