I wasn't quite update on food inventions, and I didn't even realise there is (or was?) a Cronut craze out there. The way I came across this little thingy was way more subtle. I just read several reviews about it as I was searching about birthday cake @ MO cake shop.

I think it's fair enough that I didn't know they serve sucha thing at their cake shop because I can't stress enough that I don't generally like pastries, so why would I even bother looking at all the basket behind the counter even I go there? Besides, the fact that the cakeshop didn't treat it as a big deal at all pretty much explains why it didn't draw people's attention if you didn't intentionally go there for the Kronut. Anyway, good snacks within very reasonable dis
tance (e.g. just across the bridge) had to be within my radar.
As I browsed on google about Cronuts, it seems that majority of the Cronuts took the stereotypical donut decoration (i.e. basically either with icing, jam, spirnkles/ nuts or chocolate sauce on top) and have the croissant part as the body. While the MO-version of Kronut look a little bit more simple, that was also the reason why I like it - small but tall, with a very neat/plain outside. They also succeeded in creating an illusion that this Kronut is not as oily as the others by having flour overit (of course i suppose it also served the purpose of having them nicely separated in the basket).
T
o be specific about THIS Kronut, some reviewers said this MO interpretation lies more on the donut-side of the two, and it took me awhile to refresh my memory as to whether I treat it more like a croissant or a donut when I ate it. After a series of thought I decided to reassure my memory by....buy another Kronut and taste it again HAHAHA. (blog post in the pause >>>)
(>>>Resume)....YES perhaps they were right. Although the Kronut does look like there are multi-layers (as can be seen from the cross-section), it doesn't create as much of a mess when you eat it. The flakes do not fall as badly like you are eating a croissant) and it doesn't collapse and go flat after you have your first bite either.
SEEEEEEEE!! it "grew" back to the same height as before

I was just wondering if the kronut was heat up for 5 sec, maybe a running chocolate would make it even better??? (General thought of an amateur pastry chef =P : Not sure heating up would compromise the flaky crispy texture or not tho, probably need to heat it up in an oven instead of a microwave)!

Sidenote: Some reviewers said MO cake shop sells limited number of Kronuts everyday and if you want to make sure that you secure one, make an order early. I wasn't sure whether this policy still applies as twice that I went there, I get the Kronut without a problem and it doesn't look like it's gonna run out either =)
