Went to Boqueria with a girlfriend for Restaurant Week. When I first saw that Boqueria was one of the participating restaurants, I was quite excited since I've been to the Boqueria in NYC and the one in HK when it first opened, and was impressed with the food. Sadly, when I tried their set menu for Restaurant Week yesterday, I was so underwhelmed that I'm going to take this out of my recommendation list when people ask me where to go for tapas.First off, for the set menu, you get 6 dishes and 1

Went to Boqueria with a girlfriend for Restaurant Week. When I first saw that Boqueria was one of the participating restaurants, I was quite excited since I've been to the Boqueria in NYC and the one in HK when it first opened, and was impressed with the food. Sadly, when I tried their set menu for Restaurant Week yesterday, I was so underwhelmed that I'm going to take this out of my recommendation list when people ask me where to go for tapas.

First off, for the set menu, you get 6 dishes and 1 dessert. Sounds pretty good at first.

Yellowfin tuna confit and tomato salad - tuna is hard and dry; tomatos are good but they're just two separate things thrown together
Pickled mussels with green apple slush - it's a cold dish; quite weird to have seafood served this way
Almond crusted chicken breast with tamarind sauce - dry; even the sauce couldn't save it
Black truffle and iberico ham croquettes - finally, something that is done right! Smelled amazing and cooked to perfection
Wood grilled sea bass fillet with potatoes - another meh dish; nothing special, no sauce, no nothing, wouldn't order this at a tapas restaurant
Roasted suckling pig Segovia style - another stellar dish! Skin is crispy and meat is tender. Nice touch cutting with the plate. 
Dulche de Leche souffle with summer berries - nothing to rave about

Between 2 girls, we were quite stuffed at the end of the meal and couldn't finish everything. Still, I'm not sure this was worth $438 + 10% plus whatever drinks you order on top of that. Maybe it's because I didn't get the choose the dishes myself, but I'm quite disappointed with this menu choice from Boqueria. Would not be going back anytime soon since there are so many other more creative tapas restaurants in the area.
