Hysan Place has literally become my go-to place for all meals as it is just 2 minute walk from my office. Today I went to the side cafe of La Salon (the main restaurant area is not opened yet), and tried out 2 of the 4 croissants they offered. . Tiramisu Croissant ($20) The croissant was warm and crusty with the surface dusted with chocolate and coated with suger icing. The lava flowing filling is probably the most attractive part of this croissant. While it was sweet and tasty, the tiramisu flavor wasn’t very strong. The croissant itself was flaky which I liked, but the mild buttery taste was a little overwhelmed by the sugar icing crust on top as well as the filling.
Chestnut Croissant ($20) The croissant texture was similar to the tiramisu one, but there was actually less lava filling, which was totally fine as it had a much more pronounced chestnut flavor compared to the tiramisu one in delivering the flavor they advertised. The sweetness to me is just right, and with the little chestnut puree on top it certainly gave a little more chestnut taste (how often do we get chestnut desserts with no chestnut / artificial chestnut flavor?) I like this one which is less fussy, with less sugar icing and topping, which allowed the chestnut flavor to stand out.
I think $20 is very reasonably price, and I am happy with my purchase. The two other choices are chocolate croissant and caramel croissant.
We only drank tea which was just the expected taste.
A pretty good place for breakfast or tea, just to relax in the frenzy mall. I will return!
