I noticed a new Chinese restaurant opening last week on Hart Ave. in TST and decided to give it a try, since I was in the mood for dim sum. It was surprisingly good, and the prices were very, very reasonable. When I arrived, I was provided an English menu, and the staff made a diligent effort to explain what was on it. When I arrived, I was provided an English menu, and the staff made a diligent effort to explain what was on it. Despite this I never figured out the pricing scheme, which seemed to involve some sort of lunch discount and 3 or 4 tiers of pricing for the dim sum. I really need to start learning Cantonese. But no worries; I had a credit card on hand and plunged forward, ordering a bunch of dishes: Crispy skin pork, spicy dumplings, shrimp dumplings, shrimp and pork dumplings, some sort of cuttlefish in a light puffy batter, and bbq beef pastry.
The dishes arrived pretty quickly, and they looked and tasted great, but I really have to give credit to this place for their pork. It was simply the best pork I've had in HK. The skin was crispy and thin, followed by a light layer of fat and a tender layer of meat. I've eaten at gruesomely expensive Michelin starred joints in HK and never had pork like this. The rest of the dishes were also quite good, with the spicy dumplings being another standout.
The restaurant itself is nicely furnished in a very traditional Chinese manner (i.e. no natural materials, shiny gold stuff, embroidered linens).
Since I wasn't able to figure out the pricing, I had prepared myself to be gouged, but the bill totaled HKD133 for six dishes, tea, service charge, etc. I left quite satisfied, and I have every intention of returning soon.
I'm attaching a few photos, with caveat that they're a bit messy, as I didn't expect the food to be review-worthy until I was well into my meal.
