I had a stack of MAXIM's Cake Vouchers that were beginning to fade in colour.. left in the house and unused for too many years. From a positive point of view, one should consider it a bonus that these never expire and for a time being, they were even worth more than Lehman Brother's certificates. I had a stack of MAXIM's Cake Vouchers that were beginning to fade in colour.. left in the house and unused for too many years. From a positive point of view, one should consider it a bonus that these never expire and for a time being, they were even worth more than Lehman Brother's certificates. From the other spectrum, the group probably meant for it to be that way. Afterall, they're just like Lehman mini-bonds - they've already got your cash and its acculumating compound interest, why else would they care ?

The last time I was in Hong Kong a few years ago, I walked into a Maxim's Cake shop trying to exchange them @ $48 a voucher value and intended to walk away with a dozen Fruit Juice bottles
but apparently 'its not on sir' - breads and cakes only.
A few years later, I wanted to see if Maxim's became a bit more lenient and tried the same trick taking them to Simplylife Bakery. Apparently, Maxim's HK doesn't train their staff to have a sense of humour as one of them took a thinly veiled dig back at me!

Despite the lack of any upcoming birthdays, a few 'cards' were exchanged to Pre-Order one of their new Valrhona Chocolate Devil's Cake:

As one can see from the photo, it has a very thin layer of Dark Chocolate Mousse covering that barely covers the sponge within, its probably less than the make-up that some girls smear on their face in the morning. The inner cake sponge was rather ordinary to say the least, it wasn't fluffy and it lacked an expected chocolate richness. The whole cake is then sprinkled on top with the supplied Chocolate candies.
Sorry to say, this cake was really not enjoyable at all. Perhaps if it carried a bit more Valrhona Chocolate cream, it might receive a few more points, considering its nearly $150. Give me Fruit Juice anyday...
