Around 6 years ago when this exquisite little boutique shop was still under the auspicies of Causeway Bay's embrace, it had wonderful food and coffee. The cheese toast was great, the coffee was strong and velvety, the apple crumble was very homemade, and the staff was friendly and approachable.
6 years now once it stood ground in Tin Hau (why is the address stated here saying its in "north point" anyways?), it has transformed into one of the most unforgettable nightmare and monstrous experience one can ever imagine that can ever exist on the face of the planet. I wanted to show my girlfriend what it was like back in the days when it turned out to be a complete disappointment.
I wanted to use the washroom upon entry and so I was told that I had to go out the restaurant turn left walk around the corner and there is this grey metal door which separates a back alley that leads to the washroom. There's a sign on the door knob that says "please swipe card" in Chinese, kind of like a Saw movie introduction. Back alley first impression was very promising when upon entry I was greeted with a bountiful facial of "Dark Fudge Hot Chocolate with Peanuts and extra marshmellow" all over the John. There wasn't even liquid soap to wash my hands with.
But lets get to the food. The vegetarian pasta has absolutely no flavor, no olive whatsoever in it. I think even I who doesn't know how to cook could do a better job at it. My salmon angel hair pasta was all clogged and I had to chew it as though I was breaking barbwire. The only palatable stuff in it was a ready made supermarket piece of stale frozen smoked salmon. The apple crumble tasted almost like cough medicine, and I think my coughing has reduced now thanks to its apple crumble.
The WORST part of all was the service of its staff. They have no manners whatsoever and to say that the service was bad is considered CHARITABLE in my view. There was a clear and evident sign on the window of the restaurant that signifies it accepts visa / master. I tried settling my bill with credit card but the waiter there told me since I was the last one in the restaurant, she has turned off the credit card machine just before I wanted to settle with card so I MUST settle with cash. Well doesn't she need to ASK her customers first if they wanted to settle by card BEFORE she turns off her gadgets? I didn't believe it and I thought it was just pure posturing so I insisted that I must settle by card or there is no payment. She reluctantly called some random person along the other line and came back nonchalantly saying I am "allowed" to settle by card? I do not understand why I was "allowed" when by God it is jolly good my RIGHT to settle by card and it was both her FAULT for turning the card machine off before I could settle my bill. Not to mention she was LYING when she said I could ONLY settle by cash and not by card.
I have no hesitation to guarantee I will NOT COME BACK TO THIS DILAPIDATED UNSCRUPULOUS restaurant / cafe ever again for LIFE. I encourage all of you to try it yourself if you don't believe. This restaurant has some serious issues. The only reason why it moved from Causeway Bay to Tin Hau was because they can't afford the high rent which is obviously signs of an under-performing restaurant. Oh and the staff their have this funny accent I'm not entirely sure if they come from mainland China / vietnam perhaps someone can enlighten me.
