兩年前開張時幾乎似發現寶-價錢公道,食物水準高,地方舒適.
近幾月食物水準下降,今天不信邪又再給一次機會.中午約家人午膳.
叫了一份和牛排 set餐($230), 一份冲繩便當($290), 一散叫花生豆腐及一盤苦瓜炒肉片.三人吃應該足夠.
牛排先到,薄的可憐.看起來比較像 sukiyaki 的薄片牛肉,加一些蔬菜及碗蒸蛋,年輕人兩三口就見底.
苦瓜炒肉片($90)份量少的可笑,放在細盤上一半都蓋不了,又是三兩口見底,要了一碗白飯 只蓋半邊碗-份盛惠$35. 花生豆腐($60)品質滑香.價錢維持不變,是今天唯一的安慰.
冲繩便當兩層容器裡面食物也少的可憐,家庭式餐館來的卻變成法國餐廳的 Tasting menu. 每樣只得一口,看到隔離的 Sushi set 上面生魚片更是薄得似透光,反全溝不出食慾,
好笑的來了,飯後甜品紅豆雪糕只有以前的一半份量,一球變半球,另一面是平面,餐牌應寫 "雪糕半球".
大佬呀,三人盛惠 近$800,完成物超所不值.
服務還是一貫的友善,看來港人捱貴租只好東搯西減服務員也無奈.
應該不會再光臨了.多謝無該.

This is one of the worst experience we had in a long time in HK.
We went to this newly opened restaurant for lunch on Sunday. We were greeted immediately by friendly staff. The place was quite full and so we were seated at the bar.... all was well SO FAR. The place was semi al fresco so the door was open. It was quite hot - by HK standard anyway.
We then ordered our food- Hamburger and Pork Ribs. We waited and waited and waited. 3o minutes had passed and there was no sight of our order. We asked the bartender who was a smart and friendly lady and she checked. We were told they were on their way.
Aother 10 minute passed, the rib arrived. While the sauteed vegitable looked and tasted ok, the rib was as tough as my leather belt. I had to ask my husband to saw it befor we were able to eat it. We were hungry, we didn't care.
There was still no sight of the hamburger. We asked again, the bartender asked the kitchen again, we waited another 10 minute. It arrived.
One bite into the burger, we couldn't take another bite. The meat while cooked half way, had a taste of freezer box. The taste that reminded me of my leftover Thanksgiving turkey after three months.... no no no, not in a restaurant where a burger costs $120. We needed a mask to eat the burger. 
So far no good... we were totally disappointed and very upset after being sitting in the hot day in a half airconditioned room, sweaty and still very hungry.

We wandered in the restaurant after walking around Tai Hung Area for a place to have dinner.
We normally eat at Nha Trang in Wan Chai if we want Vietnamese food but we thought we gave this place a trial.
The floor was so sticky that I actually glided in. Not sure when was the last time they cleaned the floor.
We ordered egg roll, noodle with crab in tomato soup and pork chop with noodle.
Egg roll came first, the rice wrap was so chewy that we had to use knife to cut ii open. Filling was ok but it could be a little tastier. Not good
Pork chop was way too fat. We had to cut loose almost half the chop before it was edible. There was not enough garnish to make the bowl of noodle interesting both in taste and texture. We had much better ones elsewhere.
Tomato crab meat noodle was another big disappointment. There wasn't any thing reminded us of the crab meat. Perhaps the chef thought little dried up shrimp can replace crab meat. The soup was soooo salty that we had to add half cup of water to balance the excessive salt. Apart from some artificial fish cake and one sorry looking prawn, there wasn't anything to make this dish tasty. So much for $88 bowl of failed noodle soup.
It was a total disappointment and we will go back to our regular hang out in Wan Chai.

Four of us had a site visit of a property nearby so the restaurant was booked for lunch.
we were greeted and seated immediately. The place was noisy but service was attentive. Bread basket was full of warm breadsticks, a pleasant surprise indeed. Little did we know that we were going to have the worst meal in a long time spending over $1000 for the four of us.
Lunch was a semi buffet style with salad bar and a a la cart main course. Three of us ordered pasta with seafood and the other Hainan chicken rice.
Salad bar choice was bear minimum with two choices of green and some cold mix of green and root vegetable. Nothing spectacular. There was a sashimi bar but we were told it was not included in the salad bar.
Next came the main course. Pasta was so over cooked which was served on a gigantic plate but with a little bowl in the middle. One can finish the pasta in three bites. It was so mushy that reminds me of the canned pasta I used to have when I was in college. On top of this mush was three pieces of sorry looking scallop which was placed under some sprout. Pasta sauce was tomato based but besides the color, nothing reminded me of this nice Italian national fruit (yes, tomato belongs to fruit group). Worst of all, pasta was served luke warm (on the cold side) YUCK..I can cook better pasta with one eye close anytime.
The chicken rice (at $228 plus $40 if thigh was requested) at $268 was so overpriced. If one can excuse the price one certainly can not excuse the poor taste. Chicken was tasteless with rice being really oily.
Dessert and coffee/tea was served there after. Dessert was one of the better dish and coffee was just average.
Overall, this is one of the worst meal in any hotel in Hong Kong for us in a long time.

The location and the deco of this place is brilliant- away from traffic and big shopping malls. The deco was simple with earthly elements which fits right into the area. We booked the place three months ago and was really looking forward to this.
Our gang of three arrived at 12:45pm, the restaurant was not full. We had our table right away and bread was served soon after. Good crunchy country style bread with crispy crust and olives. So far so good.

We ordered a set lunch with mushroom tart, pasta with tomato sauce. We also ordered some a la car dishes- seared scallops, quail salad and pasta with ragu sauce.

Mushroom tart arrived first, it looked dry but again looks can be deceiving....wow, it is not dry -it is stone dry. When a knife cut into it, the whole thing crumples like cutting into a beggars chicken with a hammer. We had to send the dish back and graciously, they replaced stone tart with the daily soup which was barely tasty with drops of balsamic vinegar added. Scallop dish was again very average, served only lukewarm with unnamed slices of veggie. Quail was cooked crispy on the outside which looked pitiful on very small portion of green that can be counted with 5 fingers...stingy portion...

The two pasta were ok with the pasta with ragu sauce was the better of the two. Pasta was fresh but there is room for improvement on the sauces. Tomato sauce was so diluted which can not stay on the pasta and we had to spoon the sauce from the bottom of the plate many times before finishing the dish...

Lunch set came with coconut creme brulee and coconut ice cream. Good cup of cappuccino was the finale to our very anticipated but disappointing meal.

This is the cafe for causal lunch or afternoon tea after grocery shopping at Sogo.
The menu changes according to what is in season- this is a plus as many restaurants in Hong Kong serve same menu season after season, year after year. The deco was "Japanese wannabe Italian /French" which can be overlooked with its high standard hygiene set ups as one would expect when walks into a Japanese cafe.
The item of day was autumn mushroom and we so we ordered mushroom risotto and Halibut with mushroom and fennel.
Mushroom risotto was an inverted bowl (as seen in Japanese style curry rice) of risotto cooked in cream and lots of mushroom. For a while, you would think you were sitting in a Italian cafe munching risotto except when you tasted the green garnish---wait wait wait, what is this? Oh no, not sprout Should have been arugula and not sprout with its raw grassy taste. Brush aside and the risotto was respectable.
Next came the halibut which was cooked just nice with golden brown skin on top of piles of fennel and caramelized onion. Straw mushroom was not top quality which can also be brushed aside and you have a nice plate of fish with juicy fresh fennel coupling with caramelized onion and some brown sauce reduction... yum.
Risotto was $148 and Halibut $178, all came with soup, bread. With complementary cups of fresh brewed coffee, they were the perfect finale.

Yes, we went over to Fiat Caffe for chaser after the big brunch at Fung Shing this morning.
We ordered coffee, cappuccino and assortment of Italian cookies. Coffee and cappuccino arrived first. They were ok, nothing to brag about except they offered top quality La Perruche sugar which i must give them credit for attention to details. (one 5 star hotel in town use packed sugar...) BUT Wait..the Italian cookies were outstanding. The macaroons with chocolate mousse dipped in dark chocolate was heavenly- not too sweet with great almond flavor. The fruit biscotti had interesting texture which when dipped in coffee, was made for each other. The cone shaped almond macaroons tasted honest and not some look alike as in other shops.

Go for the Italian cookies when you visit this cute coffee shop.

The only places my qwei po friends would go for Dim Sum are in the clubs- club dim sum? You tell that to any Hong Kong locals and they will laugh their heads off.
I decided to show them where moms and the pops go for dim sum in CWB.
The four of us sat down at Fung Shing Restaurant on Leighton Road. We ordered BBQ buns, steamed rice with pumpkin and ribs, rice roll with bbq pork, plain rice rolls with peanut sauce, Shrimp dumpling (Hargaw), Shrimp and pork dumplings( Siewmai) . , curry cuttle fish, veggie and shrimp dumpling, crispy fish cakes, stuffed bell pepper, friend bean curb sheet with fresh shrimp, steamed fresh veggie, spring roll ...yes they kept coming.

Everything was up to standard except for the bbq buns with dough too tough. Shrimp dumplings were gigantic with whole shrimp and skin was translucent and smooth. Fried spring rolls were crispy with taro and chopped pork filling. Stuffed bell pepper with fish paste was juicy and we needed knife and fork to cut as they were good portion. Steamed rice roll with bbq was stuffed with tasty bbq pork and it slide into your mouth with skin so smooth. Steamed veggie was $18 as it was part of the "leave before 11 am special".

Yes, I never liked any tea served in dim sum restaurant as they tend to give you bottom of the tea barrel. I brought my own oolong and the waitress was not offended and hot water was refilled many times.

The best part was the bill- all for $269. My qwei po friends' eyes almost popped when she saw it.

This is absolutely our favorite restaurant when we long for deli food.
Our gang of three ordered pastrami , Reuben ,beef dip, and corned beef sandwiches, all in half portions. The quality of food is so consistently good all these years. The best part of this dining experience is the unlimited serving of pickles. We had two bowls of pickled slaw and down two large picked cucumber before the main dishes arrived.

The sandwiches are piled with cut meat and the dark rye bread was toasted just right. Beef dip was pile of thinly sliced roast beef served with beef au jus, best and the only one i know in HK. Corned beef was cut a bit thick and not juicy enough while pastrami sandwich was a better choice. Reuben sandwich was another good choice with melted cheese and sauerkraut on pile of cut ham. It was delicious. Each sandwich came with choice of fries or salad..

We also ordered soft drinks and the bill came merely under $400 with my AE discount. What a steal in this town.
All in all, the place is the best value on the other side of the harbor if you like deli food. I know we are thousands of miles from New York's Carnegie Deli, but hey in Asia, this is the next best thing.

I know many expats friends in HK who has never ventured out of their clubs or hotels to eat local food.
If you are still eating Denver omelets in Hong Kong, you don't know what you are missing.
I went to Shanghai and HK noodle shop on Jardine Crecent Street (an alley opposite of SOGO) to buy breakfast this morning.
I ordered two cups of freshly made soy bean milk, one large rice roll - all for $35. Good enough for two.

Rice roll was a layer of sticky rice cooked al dente and filled with fried dough stick, pickled veggie and some chopped up pork jerky. Soy bean milk was very fresh and tasty and not too diluted. I ordered unsweetened as I often add my own sugar to the sweetness level that suits me.

Service was quick and no nonsense. The lady made my rice roll in a second with the spec i provided and I was out of the shop in 5 minutes.

If you are tired of eating scrambled egg and bacon on Sundays, SHK noodle shop with authentic Shanghai breakfast is way to go.
