As a French people, we are familiar with the concept of "Relais de l'Entrecote" in Paris and London and this restaurant in Wanchai surpasses all of them.

First, it has this real luxurious, parisian, brasserie-like athmosphere. Same coloured tablecloths, glasses, cutlery, plates ...even the little Dijon Moustard pots are the same than the Relais de l'Entrecote in Paris!! The lighting is just right and the athmosphere is great : a pleasure for the eyes. For the aficionados that we are, it was a great way to cure the little "home-sick" feeling you can sometimes get on a sunday night.

And then came the food. This is a set-up menu, salad as a starter then grilled meat and French fries. The salad is served with walnuts and a delicious sauce, just right seasoning with enough vinegar and moustard fo me. Then we had to choose our cooking preference for the meat : I like it medium. The Meat is grilled and served with a sauce which is unique and make this restaurant famous in Paris. I can't tell you how good was this meat, really delicious : tender but not too fat, really tasty. The trio Meat - French fries - Sauce is really exceptional. The quality of the meat is rare, and the taste of the potatoes is unbeatable : nutty and tasty. I couldn' help but asking for more. And I could because the meat and sauce are actually unlimited!
I would also like to mention the bread. This is the best baguette I've ever had in Hong Kong. So don't make the same mistake I did : be carefull not to rush on the bread at the beginning of the dinner, save it for the salad and the sauce.
For the desert we could choose amongst a long list. I had the profiteroles and my husband had the vacherin. Both very good. I am a chocolate person and the sauce of the profiterole was perfect from my view point.

A Japanese friend recommended this place, which is a Japanese-Korean restaurant.
The design is very “woody” and the lighting is quite low and composes a quite intimate atmosphere. There is a grill at the centre of each table and therefore you can order meat and grill it yourself at your prefered way.
For the beef part of the meal, we choose the premium kalbi which is the most fat hence tender. We were a little bit disappointed: not enough marinated and also very fat, although it is true we chose the most fat once, therefore the other beef may well be better in taste. Because ours lost it because of this super fastness.
We also ordered a yuzu-marinated chicken thigh, and again, though quite good, I didn’t find it too memorable because a litle bit too spicy for me with fat in the meat which was too much for me. The salad we ordered as a side, including some seaweeds, was really delicious: crispy and with a delicious sauce. The seaweed brings a little bit of saltiness, really refreshing with the bbq meat.
We had to try the kimchi pancake, and I think 298’s pork kimchi is one of the best I’ve had. It’s very crispy and caramelised on the outside, while quite gooey in the middle. The flavour of this was very good. The sauce it came with was also great.

We have had Sake with or meals.

Our dinner at Washizawa's Kitchen Michi was excellent.
The restaurant is a traditional Omakase : very quiet room with wooden tables and bar, relatively small. You can see the food being prepared behind the bar, it contributes to the solemnity of the atmosphere.
Green tea is being served all the way, the service is very fast but silent, very efficient.
The food itself was very good. At the beginning you are asked about what you like/ dislike, and then the dishes will come to you until you say "stop".
You can say there are certain type of fish or seafood that you don't like but I'd say that you won't enjoy your evening if you are not a raw fish person.
That being said, the products are so fresh! I can't think of having had this feeling before, the feeling that I am eating a fish directly from the sea. Like almost with sea water surrounding it you see?
We have had Toro sushi, a type of yellow fish sushi, raw prawn (deliciousely fresh and nutty) and then a sea urchin maki, slightly cooked toro sashimi, miso soup (fish version with fish in it!).
We had a sesame ice cream as a desert, and it was delicious.

I can only recommend this restaurant to sushi amateurs.

Being French I heard about Cocotte and wanted to try this new "Bistrot like" restaurant that all French people are talking about in Hong Kong. I have been there with my husband and a couple of friends and it has been a really nice dinner, a truely spotless experience. We didn't wait to be sitted, the athmosphere itself was great and the food delicious and sophisticated. Difficult to describe the cosyness of this place : imagine you are sitted in a comfortable velvet chair, the music play-list makes you feel at home, and the lighting just put you in a relaxed and seductive mood.  We had the "Salad of Young Vegetable & leaves", the "Steak Tartare" and the "Foie Gras Royal" as appetizer. The salad has this "je ne sais quoi" altogether soft and spiced, I think the secret is in the original sauce. The Tartare was tasty and balanced, it made me think of the best ones I had in Paris. It is a difficult exercise to prepare a Tartare, and this one is a winner. I am afraid I didn't taste the Foie gras as my husband finish his plate within 2 minutes. Then I had the Scotch Lamb "Cannon" and my husband shared the entrecote with our friend, another friend had the "Sole Meuniere". I can't say anything bad on the Lamb really loved it, again very sophisticated with the artichoke and the quinoa as a background to enhance the savour of the meat. The mash potatoe as a side is probably the best one I had with Joel Rochuchon'. The wine was great, we had "Moulin a Vent" red wine and it accompagned softly but firmly our dishes. My friends and my husband enjoyed their food as I did. And as a desert I had the "Valhorna Chocolate" and I also tasted the "Candid Apple". I must admit I have a sweet tooth but I can recognise a great desert when I taste one and these were definitly tasty and comforting. A great place I can't wait to go back to.
