As I big fan of matcha, I just couldn’t resist trying out this place and I got two items in one go. Their iced matcha latte and matcha espresso parfait were both pretty good. The matcha latte made a perfect drink for hot weather. Really enjoyed the intense matcha flavour in their soft serve and it paired well with the coffee jelly too but probably can only have it occasionally with that $68 price tag and small portion. Would have been even better if they got more matcha soft serve in it too. The store is a bit small and there are no seats for eating in so you might want to avoid busy hours.

Went all the way to Happy Valley for this place since they have a long history with vintage decor and is famous for their egg tarts and pineapple buns with butter. The portion of beef tendon instant noodles was incredibly small and bland, simply a letdown with that price. They ran out of egg tarts so I ordered a pineapple bun with butter instead. The bun was only in room temperature when served and tasted very ordinary. The hot milk tea was alright but definitely needed more tea flavour in their iced milk tea. Overall a pretty disappointing and pricey experience for that quality of food. Definitely not going back as there are so many options out there.

This place has been on my list for a while thanks to the lovely decor and photogenic items and I finally visited with a friend who’s into Thai food as well. Really loved the cute colours and girlish vibes that’s perfect for dates and girls’ night out. We were not that hungry so we picked seafood tom yum with fish maw, signature northeastern appetiser platter and an iced pandan longan honey tea, as these are dishes not as commonly seen in other restaurants out there. The prawn crackers made pretty good starters and went well with my refreshing pandan longan drink. The tom yum soup was full of seafood and huge pieces of fish maw, while packed with sour and spicy flavours at the same time. The appetiser platter was quite satisfying too, especially the pork balls and Thai sausages. Lettuces were also included to balance the out the strong flavours from the meat. Overall the food was pretty good even though a bit on the pricey side. Service was amazing as all the waiters were really attentive. They passed us wet tissues before we requested them and moved the plates around to make sure we could easily grab our food.

Walked past this interesting little spot that serves burgers, coffee and gelato with very artistic decor so I grabbed a late lunch there. Felt like trying out everything and I ordered a wagyu burger (tasting size), iced coconut black and 2 scoops of premium gelato. The coffee was a light and refreshing one with coconut water that satisfied my coffee craving. The burger was stuffed with tomatoes, lettuce, cheese and a beef patty. It looked pretty standard but all the ingredients were fresh with the beef patty being juicy, cooked to medium and well seasoned. As for gelato, I picked osmanthus chrysanthemum and D24 durian flavours as both are rarely seen in other places. The flavours were really pronounced and surprisingly I liked the former one better for the light and subtle taste. The durian one was also enjoyable but was slightly too icy. Overall a good place to enjoy some burgers, gelato and me time.

Fell in love with Meet Fresh ever since I tried it overseas and I needed something more than the usual herbal jelly or taro balls combos so I had to order this Q mochi milk shaved ice with my friend. The portion was huge and could be shared by 3-4 people. It’s topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, mini taro balls, filled taro balls, winter melon jelly and mochi. Everything went well with the shaved ice but the mochi was surprisingly really moreish. It’s so soft, chewy and addictive I need to go back for more!

Shake shack - a world famous burger joint that has taken social media by storm has finally landed in Hong Kong. No more fantasising from checking out Instagram photos Hongkongers but it also means that people are going crazy about this place. I went to this restaurant much later than usual (a whole year after opening) hoping to minimise my queuing time and this proved me wrong. The restaurant was super packed and I waited in the queue for 15 mins to place order, plus another 10 minutes before I could devour my burgers. Knowing that it might be the last time to visit, we ordered everything we wanted in one go. Shack burger (double) - cheeseburger with lettuce, tomato, shacksauce Always loved brioche buns for the fluffiness and buttery sweet flavour that go well with any ingredients. The beef patty was thick, juicy and slightly seasoned, with melted cheese clinging to it. The vegetables were fresh and crisp too but the shacksauce didn’t really stand out. Not bad but not something unforgettable. Shroom burger - Deep fried portobello mushroom filled with muenster and cheddar cheese, topped with lettuce, tomato, shacksauce This one was a must-try! The crispy and slightly chewy portobello mushroom with oozing cheese was the most satisfying ever! The vegetables balanced out the fattiness and saltiness of the cheese and all of these made a burger in heaven! Hamburger with lettuce, tomato and onions Their hamburger was rather ordinary without the shacksauce and cheese. Not that it’s not yummy but probably more for people who like it simple. Cheese fries I prefer crunchy and thick cut fries so Shake Shack’s version easily ticked my boxes, only if the fries were slightly more seasoned. The cheese sauce was alright but didn’t lift the flavours too much. Finish this quickly or else the fries will get soggy. Coffee shake Woah this is the shake I am talking about! Thick, creamy and full of coffee aroma from the first sip! Get this if you are a coffee lover. Milk tea shake A flavour only offered in Hong Kong stores so I had high expectations. Sadly, the milk tea flavour resembles that of English milk tea instead of the Hong Kong version. It was a little too sweet for my liking too. Iced tea I thought this would be some kind of sweetened lemon or peach iced tea but it was literally an iced tea. It was still refreshing but could be bland when eaten with burgers and fries. If I’m visiting for a second time, I’m going for their fifty/fifty (a mix of lemonade and iced tea).

This joint has been recommended by Michelin Guide 4 years in a row but it’s the first time for me to have it. Better late than never, right? Egg waffles have gone so pricey these days and I don’t want too much going on in mine so I picked a plain matcha one. After around 15 minutes, I got mine fresh off the waffle maker. Each pocket was nearly 90% full, crunchy outside and fluffy inside. The matcha flavour was noticeable but could be stronger. Overall it was worth a try but probably not something I would crave all the time.

Tiger Sugar is one of the very first outlet to offer brown sugar pearl milk and this drink has since become highly sought-after. Always wanted to know what the hype is about and the queue happened to be super short the other day, so here I come brown sugar pearl milk. I picked Brown sugar boba milk with cream mousse because that’s their best seller and for the extra creaminess. Didn’t expect the drink to be that small considered it’s $30. The tiger stripe of brown sugar was extremely photogenic and appetizing. I took quite a few shots as usual and the sugar was still holding up pretty well. Took my first sip after my ritual and found that the milk was thick and creamy, with very strong dairy flavour. The pearls were slightly bigger than usual, chewy and full of brown sugar aroma. The sweetness was just right for me and I did enjoy the whole thing. Yes call me picky, but the only one complaint would be the large amount of ice added (one-third the amount of the drink) and I finished the whole thing in less than 15 minutes thanks to the small portion.

As much as I love eating out, I am not a fan of staying in line for hours so I usually wait till the hype to die down a bit before visiting super popular restaurants. Heard that the queue is still long even though it has opened for a while, I went there with my foodie buddy at 9:30am on a Sunday morning. Our strategy worked well and we were seated right after it was opened as we were the very first batch of customers. We had to order happy pancake (original flavour) for our first visit. It was still a 15-minute wait since the everything was made to order. The pancakes looked plump and thick, with a scoop on ice cream on top and syrup on the side. They were incredibly fluffy, soft and light but still pretty filling. The slob of cream totally stole the show with it’s airy texture and pronounced honey flavour. Every single bite of the cream on pancake took me to cloud 9 and we couldn’t stop going wow. The original flavour was so good that we had to go back for more the week after. We had milk tea with granola and strawberry cheesecake flavours in one go. The pancakes were perfectly done like the first time but the milk tea sauce was too milky and the cheesecake cream was a bit overpowering. We reckon the original flavour was the best and will definitely be back for more.

Met up with one of my best buddies in Causeway Bay for a mini food tour. We went to this nostalgic cafe for breakfast as we didn’t want to go for dessert straight away. We quickly decided on a breakfast combo of beef and macaroni in tomato broth, scrambled eggs, toast and milk tea. I was craving pineapple bun so we got one with truffle scrambled eggs and a bottle of Trappist milk as well. I am usually a sucker of tomato broth but this one was bland and not appetising at all. Scrambled eggs and toast were alright but nothing really stood out. The milk tea lacked tea flavour and was too milky for my liking. Was really looking forward to the pineapple bun because of all the disappointment from the above items but man the crust on the pineapple bun was soft and too thin. Even the truffle scrambled egg couldn’t safe the day when the bun itself is such a letdown. Probably one of the worst cha chaan teng experience with very mediocre food. They might want to focus on the food quality to retain customers.
