Have Heard Mixed Reviews regarding this place so was scrutinizing everything upon entry!
Was Greeted by Very nice interior design – Spacious Interior with Sensual Calm and Relaxing music playing in the background at just the right volume that eases into the conversation alongside perfect dim lighting making the occasion feel very romantic for me & my loved one. Not to mention, a Great Open and Direct Full Sea View of Kowloon and ICC.
Service from the get go was very impressive. Smiling throughout. Immaculate Service.
Received a Bread Basket Accompanied on the side by a delightful Sun-Dried Bruschetta Topping. Nice Bread but was cold, so decided to send it back to Warm.
Management favorably agreed with a smile.Was then presented with the Menu and subsequently ordered:
Appetizer - Beef Carpaccio with Shaved Goose Liver Terrine, Black Truffle, Parmesan, Argula & Truffle Vinegraitte:
Very Well Done. Highlight Dish of the Night. Good Texture to the Meat. Perfectly Sliced Premium Meat. Presented Very Well. The Rocket Leaves in particular were Very Fresh & not Soggy at all (other places very possible for this to occur). Definitely felt & tasted like a very premium dish in which a lot of great care was taken to make.Mains – Paccheri Pasta with Lobster Meat, Fresh tomato & Basil:
Joy of Joys! The Perfect Lobster Pasta. Finger Lickin’ Good.
Wonderful Blend of Tomato & Basil to bring the most out of the Lobster, which by the way, was a Great Big Half Lobster! A Pleasant Surprise to see a Half Lobster on the Pasta. Definitely assists the sensual feeling of having Lobster. Not a struggle to get the meat out of the Shell. For The Pasta in itself, although it was slightly undercooked, was not drenching in sauce, just the right amount to enjoy the Lobster & feel all the flavors. Very Scrumptious – made me almost forget that I was in a Fine Dining Restaurant and wanted to Pick up the Lobster and use my hands to dig into each morsel of meat!
A Thoroughly Enjoyed Dish.Dessert – Apple Tart with Mascarpone And Amaretto Biscuits:
Could smell the aroma even before the dish even arrived at the table!
Well Formed Crispy Biscuit, Quality Mascarpone - Creamy and indulging.
Definitely handled with care. HOWEVER, unevenly distributed filling of the apple + not enough filling for my liking, nevertheless, A Delectable Dessert.In addition, to accompany us throughout Dinner we ordered a Bottle of Veuve Clicquot Brut Yellow Label. Surprisingly Well Kept. Fantastic Bottle. Dead-on Correct Temperature. Rarely Experience such care of stocking Champagne. A Bottle is ever only as good as how it is kept in storage. Wonderfully brought out the Zesty and Vibrant Structures of the Champagne itself & also proved to be a Fantastic Pairing bringing out the real flavors of each dish! Cannot Stress enough how pleasing this bottle turned out.
To top it off, when we were about to leave we were presented with a Very Very Delicious White Chocolate & Milk Chocolate Truffle imported from Italy. I do not believe I have seen these available at any stores here in Hong Kong.Conclusion:
A Real Sense of Occasion going to this place accompanied by some Fantastic tasting and textured food, topped off with Smiling Service. All Round Winner.

During all the years that Shakey’s has been in business, I've only been to this place twice.
Once just a few days ago and the former rather ages ago.
I decided one day that I could not remember why I did not like the place enough to return back so hence, went for a relaxed meal - or so I thought.
Entered at what is supposed to be "peak time" and the place is empty. Just a couple tables sitting so "getting a table" was certainly not a problem. We had our pick of tables to sit at and chose the one with the lounge chairs (nice touch).
Few minutes in, the 2-man band pops up for a few numbers, eliminating any chances of communicating with the person I was dining with. LUCKILY we managed to put in our order just before they came up. In the beginning, it seemed interesting to have a Loud Bar-Type Band at a restaurant but soon the "band at a restaurant gig" looked overwhelmingly unfitting.
After a painstaking process of trying to communicate with each other to no avail, we decided to change our order to take out as the dishes ordered had yet to arrive.
The Service of the Staff was AVERAGE, can't complain, HOWEVER:
Dishes ordered:
Shakeys Famous Chicken – Over-Fried & Extra Oily.
Quesadillas – Very Bland + Wrong Shape!!!
BBQ Pizza – THEY MIXED IT UP!!!!

Waiting Period (for the Food) – Very Long. Never Experienced a longer wait.

Just a few tables in the restaurant & yet the staff managed to put in an order in for the wrong dish. We got a Hawaiian Pizza instead of a BBQ Pizza. Not like we could do anything about it as we had already departed the place with our “take-away food” intact and assumed it to be correct so did not bother checking! FYI, Even the Hawaiian Pizza was not much!! Overwhelmingly large pcs of pineapple which overpowered all other flavors.
Conclusion:
Definitely Not Returning.

NOT New to this place. I have been to this restaurant A LOT of times – frequent visitor.
Chao Yang is my default “go-to” choice for comfort Shanghainese Cuisine.

This Place Can Cater to Any kind of occasion with a View & Reputation to back it up!

Professional Team of Staff, Led by a Professional Manager who, very clearly,
have been in this business for a Long time.

You do not want to walk in to a restaurant where the Fried Rice Tastes like one thing one day then something else the next day or is over-cooked one day and under-cooked another! Over here, what you see is what you get. What you remember the taste being is what you will taste. Fried Rice Tastes like Fried Rice. NO Shocks/Surprises here. I am not going to recommend any particular dishes, primarily because I’ve tried too many from my many trips here! NO – you are not going to get any of the “scrumptious & delicately textured meat with the perfect amount of ripe juice to tickle the palate” as you do with some Finer (+more expensive) places BUT that’s not why you go to this place! You go to this place for a Lively Meal with People you can actually communicate with while overlooking a great view that is tough to match, munching on Good Quality Comfort Food.

Pièce de résistance:
The VEGETARIAN menu. Great Veg Menu. AND the Level of Co-Operation.
Proper Veg Dim Sums – unlike most other places this veg Dim Sum is truly veg. I know of some other places which have Egg in the Batter. Not this.
ALSO, the management is very co-operative & happy to customize dishes at your command. With Family we constantly make variations to the dishes!
“Put this, not that, change this, add that, etc etc”
Even some so called “””””Michelin-Star”””” places do not display this level of Co-Operation & Satisfactory Portion & Quality!

Conclusion:
Why are you still reading?? ;) GO. EAT. 

P.S.: Helps to book a table in advance! Showing up for a table is not a good idea if you do not like waiting.
