Well given the heat outside, my appetite wasn't as good as usual and I was craving for something refreshing. Being in north point and with all the cha chaan tengs around doesn't offer me too many choices. My first thought was to opt for a salad so here I am.
And yes the Caesar salad comes with all the proper details, croutons, bacon bits, Parmesan cheese and i can taste the anchovies in their dressing, so be warned those of you who are afraid of fish for me, the more the merrier.
The salad at $46 comes in a main course portion, it is really quite huge, but of course being my greedy self, I ordered some onion rings too. These are hand made by the order, you can see the staff dusting the rings in flour or something like that, then coating with batter and deep frying it. Comes out crispy but not oily and am sure that they were using beer batter cos I can taste the beer in it. Excellent restaurant quality stuff given the size of the operation. Actually, it's better than restaurant stuff.
Goed to Arirang Restrant number 11 floor Times Square to burn the cow it I strongest recommend. My frien I tell you burn the cow in Korea Restrant goodest bcos it so favour as well cow rib is goodest part so we only burn cow, wow we burn 5 cow rib my stomach explode again as well Korea vodka so strong I drunk after 1 bottle... After burn cow wrap with lettuce garlic will goodest! But one I dun like Korea Waitress alwaystouch my meat bcos I like touch my own meat! As well spring onion salad here gooder than Myung Ga!
Went back because kept thinking of their sushi and tempura.
Had very simple things
One Prawn Tempura See picture! 8 inches of Prawn, quality is as good as last time.
One order of Sweet Shrimp Very fresh, took the heads to deep fry
Chef asked us to try this sushi: Uni Chopped Toro with Sesame and Green onion with Quail Egg Sushi It is a taste of heaven! Uni and toro and quail egg mixes perfectly, sweet, fresh, rich. So good don't know how to describe
Came to try Japan style bbq bcos I miss so much since I came back from Tokyo. It is real Japanese flavour as well nice bbq favour bcos it use stone grill!!! The heat penetrates better because it is direct heat from the stone which is not blocked by the steel mesh.
Ordered the following Thick Cut Ox Tongue - good and crunchy, and not tough like the thin ones Special Wagyu Beef - on promomtion for $148, it's a good deal and beef flavour is very strong... think it's probably Aussie style wagyu beef Beef Tartare, nothing special, but still pretty good One bite beef cubes- tastes really good if done right, bcos it's thick enough, can bbq till the skin is crispy Buttered oysters... on ok, not recommend to order Tomato Garlic salad, refreshing, but better if it's colder Bean Paste Hot Soup, good for assisting digestion Cold Sake, ok 1/2 litre draght beer, very good after bbq
$650 for 2 people is quite a good deal.
One thing that's not good is I made a booking at 930 but we waited till 1010pm before we got seated...
Read on SCMP few weeks ago about A5 Matzusaka beef at Shakujii. Me being a big fan of good beef of course decided to go la. Just 2 people so we ordered 3 types sashimi first, half order (2 slices) each, salmon and hamachi is very fresh and very fat and the akagai is very bounce "dan". Then the waitress recommended to eat the A5 stone grilled, since I have only try sashimi and sushi before and it seems quite fun to do it myself I decided to order. When it came it was on a tray with a stone pot with a volcano stone on top which is really cute. One order for 2 persons is 4 thick slices of beef (around the amount normally given on 10 pcs of sushi). I looked at the beef and the fat is dispersed really well and the quality look very good, better that the places that claim A3/A4. The sushi chef recommend us to heat the beef just 10 second or less on each side after dipping on the sauce and waaaaaaahahahahaha it really smell nice and melt in my mouth. I then dip other vegetable like pepper and mushroom and cook on the grill and was good too. 4 pieces of thick slice beef is really enough for 2 people because its so thick and fat too much will be "Jai". And it was only $200 I think it was really very cheap. We ordered tempura afterwards and was good as well but the beef was the best. I will definitely go back again soon.
Prices have increased but still very reasonable
Still same fat chef in the same red polo shirt. How many of these shirts does he have?!
They do offer you tea FOC
Tung Choi with tofu cheese sauce油菜$10 Ver油麻地 generous amount of tofu cheese sauce腐乳夠重手
Brisket and tendon noodle, tendons are nice and soft, with just enough texture to give you a bite. All flavours penetrated. The brisket here is definitely better than 9 Kee's筋腩麫$24, 筋稔得嚟仲有啲咬口, 絕對入味, 又冇我不喜嘅花椒八角味, 腩就一貫嘅good, 比9記good
lLook closely at the Lean Brisket, lined with succulent tendon, the gelatin makes it succulent, and although lean, not a bit tough at all
Small and large intestines are the best amongst the innards done here, they taste clean with some fat remaining, so comes the richness of the beef fat, the intestine themselves also much more succulent. And I must maintain that this place still makes the best beef innards that I've tried in HK island side
Unfortunately, noodles were over done, they're supposed to be semi transparent when they reach the table, and if noodles were tossed with oil, they stay that way for a longer period, guess I went during lunch and chef was too busy for that extra step
Look at the second piece of brisket, lean but nice, see the tendon and little fat lined in between?
Brought home extra brisket and made brisket noodle for lunch. very good! Remember to add the brisket soup to the noodles, it really adds flavours!
A very nice little oyster bar with al fresco area. Oysters were nice and fresh and pasta was done the "right" way, not cha chaan teng style. Good lunch deals and oyster sets
Small shop with around 14 seats inside, good place to book private parties
The western dude behind the bar is one of the owners, friendly chap.
Their lunch sets are very inexpensive and the menu changes everyday. Usually consist of a few pasta dishes and some meat mains.
looking through their menu you will also spot some sweet deals on their oyster sets eg. 3 pc oyster + glass of wine for just $99!
And when you read into detail, the menu will say their oyster man is John, yes, the oyster man from Johnny Boyz.
So i ordered the seafood pasta, it came with nice tomato sauce base which was rich and tangy, and the ingredients were quite fresh. To simply put it, very "Italian".
Then proceeded to try their oysters, they don't offer too many choices of but the mix is sufficient. Nothing from Ireland that day, maybe bcos of the volcanic ash?
The owner recommended Fleur des eaux, Ancelin speciale, Mont St. Michel, all from France. All three are bit salty sea flavoured, the first one creamier and the last one comes with a sweet finish.
This place cuts the muscle and turns the oysters for you, a lot of places are too lazy to do that. And the oysters are not flushed with water so you drink all the natural juices, hence I didn't need any vinegar or cocktail sauce.
Overall a nice small shop with good food and friendly staff. I will definitely be back!
