I like home-cooked food better than anything. If it tastes like someone's grandmother cooked it, I love it. My favorite thing is a well-worn recipes where the flavors are totally integrated, the proportions are perfect, the presentation is simple and appetizing, and the ingredients are as fresh as possible. I am a bakery junkie and Hong Kong is my undoing, but I also love light foods -- meaning foods that are not calorie-dense, greasy, or too complex. My favorite restaurants have wood tables, nice tableware, and natural light. If there are trees in sight, all the better. The service is friendly, but unobtrusive, and the staff is well-informed about the food. That said, the best food I've ever had came with plastic stools and fluorescent lighting :-)
