my first station after trip Smile Jul 26, 2010
Share with MessengerShare on TwitterShare on Facebook
It was my uncountable time to visit california pizza kitchen. I like california pizza kitchen, especially the TST one because of fantistic view of victoria harbour. I had the reservation before trip and rush to CPK once I arrived in Hong Kong.
A nice staff with two customers, we asked for recommendation and that staff explained almost every single dish in detail patiently. but finally we ignored his idea and took what we planned to have, I was so sorry about that..haha.
I had the TORTILLA SPRING ROLL, MEDITERRANEAN AND THAI as my starter together with the breath-taking view. Personally, I like Mediterranean rolls more as the cheesy taste which are served with sour tomato dip to be quite appetize.
As the main course, I chose 3 dishes. OH MY GOD!! I don't mind gaining a bit weight because you can never miss any one of them.
    1. GARLIC CREAM FETTUCINE with CHICKEN. It is highly recommended if you like pasta in strong and rich flavor. The garlic cream is really creamy and thick.
    2. PESTO PENNE WITH CHICKEN again..haha, chicken seemed lighter since it is white meat..LOL. Actually the penne is quite chewy so remember to ask for well done if you prefer softer pasta.
    3. FIVE CHEESE PIZZA, I killed half of the pizza within 15 minutes as I like cheese really much. The tomato in the pizza is the only vegetables that I had for dinner..haha. I think it is suitable for vegetarian because it was recommened by one of my friends who is a vegetarian.
2 glasses of coke, I seldom drink coke but there is unlimited refill for soft drinks so its worth drinking. They just refilled when the glass was empty, but anyway they did refill, just not too frequently.
It was a really satisfactory dinner in CPK. Everything was fine, the atmosphere, the food, the service.
Next time I would like to try something new that the staff had recommended.

Bad Service, Salty Food Cries Jun 20, 2010
Share with MessengerShare on TwitterShare on Facebook
I was very disappointed with the service and food there. It really surprised me that this restaurant got so many good comments.

Service was bad! When I asked for service, a Trainee, Renee, first pretended she didn't hear me, but since I called her again and I was actually just next to her, then she said "wait" without even care to look at me.

They provided unlimited refill of soft drink and lemon tea but I could see alot of empty glasses on many of the tables, you didn't get refill unless you asked for 2-3 times. The food was very salty, especially the pizza! (They wasn't tasty at all!) So, you could imagine alot of people were waiting for the refill...

I would never go to this restaurant again, there are lot of other choices at Ocean Centre I am sure~!

Victoria harbour  Smile May 02, 2010
Share with MessengerShare on TwitterShare on Facebook
This is my frist time to dine in CPK in this town. My husband highly recommend this restarant because of the wonderful Victoria Harbour view. On a Sunday afternoon, around 3pm, there was only 25% seat left in the dinning area. We are arranged to sit in front of the window. What a beautiful Harbour view. I don't mind paying a premium for window seat, especially on a sunny spring afternoon. I am glad to see CPK doesn't charage extra for such great view.

My husband recommended the Milan Pizza (HK$118) and Key Lime Pie (HK$48) as our items. We enjoy the HK$10 for 2 drinks which is absolutely a great deal.

    The Beverage
If you consider the beverage as a moistureizer for your tongue, the realtively low quality of their beverage won't make you feel uncomfortable. Frankly speaking, the iced lemon tea and iced coffee was not strong. If you are looking for great iced tea or coffee, you better go to another tea house or coffee shop.

    The Pizza
I tried the California Club many years ago while I was in the States. My husband suggested the Milan Pizza (HK$118) which is a thin crusted with assorted mushrooms, herbs, thick slices of italian susage, and chicken. The crust was so thin and crispy wihch is highly recommended. The toppings was a good choice for thos who loves assorted mushrooms. The susage and chicken have excellent texture and taste.

    The Dessert
Belive or not, we contineued with dessert even though we are 100% full after finishing the whole pizza by my husband and I. We chose the Key Lime Pie (HK$48) because it is not common in this town. The filling was relatively sour with little sweetness. I think the local people would love such favor but I prefer adding more sugar or condesned milk in their ingredient. The whipped cream at the side was absolutely a SURPRISE ~. I am smile smile smile by their super great taste whipped cream. The cream texture was super soft and light. I don't know if they use the canned whipped cream or the homemade one but that's so tasty.

We spent over 2 hours in this restarant. As most married couple, it's not easy for us to dine just two of us and leaving our two kids in their grandparent's home. We really enjoy this afternoon and hope to come again in the near future

The final bill is HK$194 for one pizza, one dessert, and two speical priced beverage.

The three of us decided to have something that was relatively affordable (i.e. not SoHo priced) and so we ended up booking a table here at CPK. I have been once before - a few years ago to the one in Mong Kok - and it was fine, not unforgettable.

We ordered a full sized Greek salad, Shrimp Scampi pizza and a pan-fried Salmon spaghetti with capers between the three of us, which filled us up neatly.

Greek salad - Not good. The salad had excessive amounts of lettuce (I was told there is virtually NO lettuce whatsoever in Greek salad - OK, maybe Americanised Greek salads, but I stand to be corrected if otherwise), barely enough cucumber, tomatoes and olives (the staple ingredients of any decent Greek salad), the absence of a vinaigrette, and the feta cheese was reduced to something that resembled crumbles (Greek salads tend to have Feta cheese chunks). Given I had recently tasted a decent Greek salad in SoHo, it was very hard for me to accept this was a decent rendition of the salad.

Shrimp Scampi pizza - If the name didn't suggest that there was scampi in the pizza, I wouldn't have known. Shrimp, perhaps, but scampi? Where's the scampi? I did like the deviation from the traditional tomato sauce based pizzas (although this makes the pizza untraditional - what a contradiction) and it was good when it was piping hot. The cheese was not stringy, however, but I wasn't too concerned about it. More like a note than a complaint.

Pan-fried salmon spaghetti with capers - Alright. Salmon is typically overcooked in many restaurants because staff never ask patrons how well they want their salmon steak to be cooked (it's not beef or lamb, you know). While I think it was overcooked, my friends thought otherwise and happily enjoyed it. The lemon juice gave the dish an interesting, zesty taste to it. I do like salmon with black pepper though, but sadly (and predictably enough), the black pepper was not aromatic enough to bring out the spice that peppers ought to have.

Staff were relatively attentive. They kept on offering us water until the mains started arriving, and nobody really wanted to care about us when we wanted to check the bill and leave. Funny that, I always thought restaurants were keen to make your money...

In short, I've had better pizzas, pastas and salads than the ones I had at CPK. It wasn't a bad experience; it just wasn't good enough for me to consider coming back here again in the near future.

This was a great meal. I'm glad I checked Open Rice! before I went with my mother.
Got there on Friday... bookings were full so we just dropped in to try our chance. We got in within 5 minutes of arriving, and this was at 8pm!
Sat down and ordered Green Salad with pears and grilled shrimp (+$28), Mushroom Pepperoni Sausage pizza and Chicken Tequila Fettucine

The salad was great. The Dijon dressing was not too heavy so it helped to boost appetite. Shrimp was very well done with a taste of charcoal fire. Yum.
The pizza was fantastic. I missed the American taste so I ordered something simple and classical. The pepperoni was not too fat, very lean. Mushroom was aromatic and minimal cheese that didn't overpower the bread. Good stuff.
The pasta, ohhh... man... It was a bliss. I wish they could've gave me another lime though. Sauce was very very good... matched the spinach fettuccine very well. I never thought lime would go along well with a cream sauce like this but it did! MUST try.
Next time I'll order their famous BBQ chicken pizza... As a recommendation from a friend.
Take notice that it is very loud when the place is full. They should renovate some sound-absorbent walls...
Try to book the seaview seats. I was really jealous that I didn't get it... Oh well.

It's one of those days you wish to go out for a nice din din~~

    chopstick Salad
So so, not worth mentioning. It's not bad, but it's not all great neither. Just a normal salad you can get from anywhere yet it's costing a lot.

    chopstick Greek Pizza
lol excellent, it's better than expected. I like the greek seasoning with salad, lots of green on top

But this is a comparatively expensive meal~

I see some wraps and are there deep fried stuff like spring roll? avacado ones...they look good. If i happens to be swinging by, i'd like to try some other plates~

Went to have dinner with my gf and a friend at this restaurant ytd. Finally got a chance to try other things la and this time we ordered spicy dumpling, chicken pizza, thai pasta with chicken and the banana chocolate cake with icecream. The dumpling is very good, the skin thickeness quite thick but its still very good maybe the sauce taste is very strong, its a bit sweet n spicy, very good. The meat inside is very soft n juicy and goes well with the sauce too, very good. The chicken pizza is very good too, the crust is very thin and crispy and the sauce n cheese is very nice but the chicken is a bit stiff. The thai chicken paste is very very good, the sauce is a bit sweet n spicy and the texture is very thick. the speghetti is cooked just nice not too stiff and not too soft, and has absorbed the taste of the sauce very very good. The chicken is very soft and has the taste of the sauce too very very good. The banana chocolate cake with icecream is still very very good, everytime i hav a meal at this restaurant i will order it for desert hahahaha its too good ma

we arrived there about 3 oclock
and we wait for about 5 mins.

the service is quite good here.

we order one soup, one pizza, and one pasta
the food is quite good and large.

the most tasty one is the itlanlian pizza.
and the tomato chicken pasta is also quite nice. the chinken beast look dry but it taste quite good, better than we expect.

it is nice that the soft drink have unlimited refill and also we can get the \\\\\\\"special price\\\\\\\" of $10 for two drinks.

to conclude, this lunch is nice and the seaview there is really good. but it is really too much for 2 person. we are really full. maybe next time we should not order too much. instead of order a desert would be better.

    The service is intolerable!!

1: We 15 people would like to book a round table. There's a minimal charge of $150 per head. Fine, we booked 2 tables instead. THEN!! One table was in the northeast corner and one in the southwest corner. We couldn't see each other at all!!! Did the waiters use their brain?? Could they be more considerate?

2: When all the orders had arrived. the waiter gave us a bill and told us that a lot of ppl were waiting outside and we better leave soon. We stayed < 2 hours I guess. What kind of service is it?

3: A waiter brought us a pizza. The pizza slipped out from the plate and 1/3 of it lied on the table. The waiter said nothing, not even a simple "sorry", and then went away!!!

4: The waiter handed us a bill. We asked for refill. He turned away and told his colleague that we gave him a lot of troubles. What the x!!!

    Good Manner  Feb 21, 2005

Previously, I went TST CPK with 3 friends. I appreciate the manner of the waiters there. They are talkative, friendly & cheerful. Even they are very busy, they still showed that they were not rush and be able to talk to clients with smiles. And they truly do what we requesting.

About the food, maybe I am having a relatively-high expectation, those salad, spaghetti and pizzas are nothing special to me, I can say it is just fair, maybe I will try other restaurants.

About the environment, it is crowded and noisy, not that good for a couple. And I expect it is hardly to talk with friends in a table for more ppl. Tables in the middle is closely placed making it to be too crowded.

As a whole, I recommend this restaurant as an fair one that can be chosen to go with friends, under the condition that having no expectations.

Matching expectation Smile Apr 20, 2004

Californa Pizza is a family restaurants....so what is to expect is a family style of food and service. Actually the pizza is considered not bad (as compare to the VERY local Pizza tase). On their menu, you have to tried out their speciality (those that have pictures), I tried them all and they are not bad. There are 2 other dishes - MUST ordered! One is a HOT and SPICY pasta, very tasty. Another one is like a Thai roll with vegi inside, the dipping sauce is applitizing! Brownies...of course is expected to be sweet, otherwise is not a "brownies". The place is noisy as it is a family restaurants so this is not the place for a quiet chat between lovers or friends. Kids are welcome though. Book in advance (which I always do) will avoid the long wait!
