Gone bad Cries Mar 19, 2012
Share with MessengerShare on TwitterShare on Facebook
I used to go to this place often but now Ebeneezer's has became a fully Indian restaurant now, and among the worst one. I'd rather go to Chungking mansion to have proper Indian food, honestly.

    Pizzas slices are microwaved!

Lamb kebab with fries is the worst edible thing I've tried, as the lamb doesn't come from the skewer but is gathered and collected from the grill, so it's closer to coal than to meat. My last visit I had terrible stomachache all night!

Chicken tikka (that shouldn't be found in a Kebab place btw) is dry and tasteless.

Kebab rolls are the worst among their branches, oily and heavy. I'd rather recommend the real Turkish ones at Istanbul Kebab (that is even cheaper). And again... I wouldn't swear about the freshness of the meat...

Service is slow, unresponsive and looked even annoyed by the presence of some customers, the decadence of the ambient as well, more than a couple of time I've witnessed to arguments and even fights between Pakistanis and Indian customers.

They are not doing anything to keep this branch up. Bad management is the only answer.

Havent been here for a while, but the people and management have changed quite alot.

The staff are different and the menu prices have gone up, it used to be around $40 per meal including drinks, now it costs $45.

They now have one Chinese staff there, probably to deal with local orders.

Anyway, it makes no difference to me as long as they can speak English.

Got a chicken curry, it still tastes as good as before.

Lunch curries Just OK Oct 07, 2009
Share with MessengerShare on TwitterShare on Facebook
I eat here almost every week, and yet I havent given it a review tongue

Anyway I go for their lunch sets at $40, and there are so many curries to choose from,
usually I will eat the vegetarian one, usually ordered by native Indians who are vegetarians.

The vegetarian one is also quite good, but I need to add soy sauce to it, especially the spinach and peas one, although the presentation of mashed spinach isnt that pleasing but it does taste good.

I had curry chicken today, and it always tastes consistently good, especially the long grain soft rice. There is lots of chicken in it too.

went to their new shop today and was hugely disappointed.... kebab was just lukewarm and too oily. and only two pieces of tomatoes!

it was a lot better in the old days when you could choose the sauce.

The best kebab in my l ifetime at the moment is definitely the one @ Salzburg's station, Austria, selling kebabs with juicy n spicy lamb with lots n lots of veggie of diff kinds in specially made souce, it juz can't be compared with any kinds here in HK.

Came across with this long heard outlet today with my sis who's a fan of kebab, grabbed a mix kebab with chicken n lamb for lunch, both chicken n lamb were tender enuff yet the souce was yet to improve, maybe it's adjusted to a milder taste to suit hongkongers without much herbs and spices added to it, n the size was definitely not the standard one as you would see across europe (at more or less the same price). But i guess this would be a better choice for a quick bite besides the junks u get in chains.

Falafel (Veg.) Kebab Smile Apr 19, 2004
Share with MessengerShare on TwitterShare on Facebook
I was not a big fan for Kebab before, since few months ago when I visited my friend in the States. He took me to a turkey restaurant, very small place...with a few tables outdoor. I was very impressed with it; we had falafel, which is a deep fried vegetarian Lebanese patty, like other kebabs served in pita bread with veggie. It was outstanding... tongue so, since my returned, I have been looking for places to serve kebab. Fortunately, I have seen a few from Openrice..and have read all the comments from some of you here...Gourmet KC, ShadowMoon..etc. Went there yesterday, I was at Kebab Kebab first but they don't have Falafel, so I left and went to Ebeneeezer, glad they have what I want, for the dressing, I picked yogurt garlic + mild chili….I have no complain about the food, it taste very similar as the one I had in the States, only hope that the pita bread could be hotter then it would be even better! $45 comes with a drink….ate half..and saved the other half for my supper!!
P.S. Oh...like many other Kebab shops, expect to stand and eat there or to go.
Kebab Kebab has more selections and more dining area, I took their delivery menu at the door, see they have some seafood / vegetarian (because I don't eat lamb) I will try them next time. And am looking forward to try the one in L.K.F. and the one in TST too.
