I have heard so much about the Australia Dairy Company 澳洲牛奶公司 that it was on my list of must visit destination in Hong Kong.

Australia Dairy Company is a cha chaan teng know for it's legendary Scrambled Eggs, Steamed Egg White Pudding with Milk, long queues and cheap prices.During my 6D5N stay in Hong Kong, we visited Australia Diary Company not once. Not twice. But thrice! Yes, three times in total during such a short stay as we like the food too much.

In this post, I will cover my first visit to Australia Diary Company for breakfast.

There was a long queue at Australia Dairy Company at 9am. Despite the long queue, we got a table for the 6 of us within 10minutes! It's amazingly how fast we got a place considering we have such a big group. This gives a very big hint on how fast the turnover is as those who knows this place will recall it is not a very big shop.

The menus are all pasted on each table under a hard solid plastic sheet. This helps as waiters do not need to waste time and get the menu.

They have 3 set meals; Breakfast Set, Tea Time Set and Fast Food Set. Breakfast Set is from 730am to 12 noon and cost HK$26. Tea Time Set is from 12 noon to 11pm and cost HK$30. Fast Food Set is for all day (any time) and cost HK$26.

Before we could warm our seats (less than 1 min after seating down), one of the Men in White was already at our tables waiting to take our orders. We decided to order the Breakfast Set which cost HK$26 (S$4.33). The Breakfast Set consist of toasted white bread with scrambled or sunny side up eggs, macaroni soup with ham slices and hot/cold milk tea. We all chose the legendary scrambled eggs!

We also ordered two Steamed Egg White Pudding with Milk 蛋白燉鲜牛奶 which cost HK$20 (S$3.33) each.The service here is amazing. Within less than 5 minutes after ordering, our Macaroni Soup with Ham Slices arrived. The macaroni was cooked perfectly, not too hard not too soft. The broth was clear but slightly salty. It was a heart-warming homecooked dish that certainty warmed my heart. Yummy.

You will need to eat the macaroni soup fast. Because before I could even finish it (by the way, I am a fast eater), the bread with scrambled egg and tea were served. It was a challenge to squeeze all the items on the tables.Presenting the Toasted White Bread with Legendary Scrambled Egg. Many readers will be wondering what's the fuss with scrambled egg. After all it is simple to make and available everywhere. However, to make it to Australia Dairy Company's standard, it takes a lot of skill. You will need to try this for yourself to understand what I meant.The scrambled eggs here are perfectly cooked. Light, fluffy, moist, buttery and well seasoned. This is certainly the best scrambled egg I ever had. Anyone knows how to cook it this way?Hot Milk Tea was ordinary. You will need to add sugar. My guess is that fresh milk is added instead of condense milk.I was greedy and thought this will be our one and only visit to Australia Dairy Company. Hence, I ordered Macaroni Soup with Ham and Sunny Side Up Egg.Steamed Egg White Pudding with Milk 蛋白燉鲜牛奶 has a smooth texture with a strong aroma of milk and egg white. In terms of sweetness level, it was just nice. Delicious! Another must try!

Through this meal at Australia Dairy Company, I am very impressed with the food and it's operation. Certainty a 'Die Die Must Try' in Hongk Kong! In terms of food, it is like homecooked food. The must order includes Scrambled Egg and Steamed Egg White Pudding with Milk.

What was I impressed about it's operations? Australia Dairy Company reminds me of the concept of fast food and in fact, I think they did better than the fast food we know today. Despite there being a queue through out the day (I have visited Australia Dairy Company 3 times, twice for breakfast, once for supper), they clear the queue very fast. They are basically very efficient, in taking orders, serving, tallying of bill, paying of bills and clearing of plates.

The place is basically very small, but it is amazing how Australia Dairy Company squeeze the tables and chairs. Everything went with clock work precision. After you are assigned to your table and seats, one of the men in white will be beside you waiting for you to order. Within minutes of ordering, your food will be here(faster than fast food). If you do not eat fast enough, all the food will have arrived and there will be no more space on your table (stress?). And after you have finished it, your plates will be cleared without needing you to prompt to anyone to do that! And guess what? As you are finishing your last bites, one of the men in white will be next to your table asking if there's anymore orders. If you say no? He will count the plates and write the amount you need to pay. I am amazed by the waiter that day. We had six of us, ordering sets meals and also ala carte items. Yet, the waiter calculated the total amount MENTALLY in less than 20 seconds! We were all shocked. We tried calculating the bill to see if it was correct and we took so much longer. (Chew on this: My highest qualification is degree yet I took much longer.) Till today, I am still wowed by the efficiency of the operations in Australia Dairy Company.

This is one of the famous cha can tan place that I thought I have to visit since I haven't been to hk for quite a few years. The waiting queue was quite long when we got there, but only waited for around 15 mins which I thought it's not too bad.

Same as many hk cha chan tan places, this place is always quite crowded and need to share the table with someone else. I was there for the breakfast, so me and my friend have ordered 1 set of breakfast meal (ham with noodle, famous stir fired egg with toast and hot milk tea), additional milk tea and the signature egg white bake with milk. The food was absolutly awsome!!! very yummy and nice as always, I did not feel disappointed even i haven't been there for so long.

However, the service of the waiters are so bad!!!!! horrible is not enough to describe one of the waiters' service. We supposed to have 2 hot milk tea, 1 came from the breakfast meal set and another additional one that I have ordered. The additional milk tea came first and since all other food have arrived so I have asked the waiter to see where is the other one. Since i haven't been there for so long, I forgot that the additional one and standard one came with the meal were using a different type of cup. The waiter was so rude that said your additional has already came, what are you after? Firstly I was quite polite that letting him know that there should be two as there should be 1 included with the meal. And he had been keeping tell me your additional one has already arrived, what are you after? and also said, "is that you don't understand me or I don't understand u?| (btw all the conversation were in Cantonese.) End up I was quite angry and said "What kinda service are you providing here? Is that the kind of service that you should offer to your customers?" So he finally said he will chase up the drink for me. After 2-3 mins, a standard hot milk tea came but the waiter has given it to the 2 girls who were sharing table with us as I knew they ordered the breakfast meal too, so I didn't doubt that was us not theirs. Waited for another 5 mins, the drink still didn't came and we were almost finishing our meals, so i end up have to ask the waiter again (the same rude one that I have spoken to). He said "I have already chased up the standard drink for you and it's you that given to the ones opposite to you." And I was like "they ordered the rbeakfast meal which include a drink too and another waiter has given it to them instead of me, how would I know that's the one that you chased up for me?" the waiter was like "That's your problem, not mine. It's okay I chase up for you again but make sure you don't give it to someone else again". I was so pissed off when I heard that!!!!

Even though the food was great there but I believe I will never go back to eat in, even I really wanna sth from there or any frds wanna go there, take-away will be the only option I will consider. The service is seriously poor!!!!

Notorious for its poor customer service but good dairy products, we decided to give it a try to see how bad it could possibly get. Upon arrival, we were told to wait, albeit in an acrid and coarse tone, outside the eatery due to the cramped entrance. When a table was finally available after some 15 minutes, we were waved to our seats, packed like sardines beside the service aisle.

Toasted ham and egg sandwich (蛋腿治)The toast had a slightly crisp surface and soft inside which met expectations. The scrambled eggs sandwiched between the toast was velvety smooth, creamy and rich. The texture of the eggs was staunch and the slight firmness was enhanced with a well-seasoned flavour which made it the highlight of the day. The sliced ham was just like any other but the slight saltiness helped complement the richness of the eggs and the overall savouriness of the dish.

Verdict: 8.5/10

French toast (法国土司)The fragrance of the toast upon being served would certainly titillate the senses of any diners. The surface of the toast was deep fried to a golden brown crisp yet the inside remained soft and moist. The sliced butter atop was melting as the picture was being taken and when drizzled with the maple syrup provided on each table, it was divinely sinful yet delicious. Tasted on its own, the french toast lacked flavour from the egg-coated batter but coupled with the condiments, it was certainly some comfort food for the stomach. For the calories-conscious, do not expect this to go easy on the waistline!

Verdict: 8.0/10

Steamed egg whites and milk pudding (蛋白炖鲜奶)The light flavours of the egg whites were enhanced by the richness of the milk. Despite the smoothness of the pudding, we felt that it was too sweet for our liking after repeated scoops. It was pleasing to the tastebuds upon the first try but the richness was a tad too creamy and saccharine to the effect that it satiated our appetite after a while. It might appeal to those with a slightly more tolerant sweet tooth or a preference for rich creamy desserts.

Verdict: 7.0/10

Steamed almond and egg pudding (杏汁炖鸡蛋)Like the steamed egg whites and milk pudding, this version was equally smooth and rich. With the addition of the egg yolks, this tasted slightly denser than the former. It was also slightly firmer and was pleasing to the palate. The downside was again the sweetness, which could be taken a few notches down but again this was owed to personal preferences.

Verdict: 7.0/10As we were seated beside the service aisle where waiters were scurrying in and out of the kitchen to bring orders to the diners, they stopped at nothing to make sure a din was created. Whenever they cleared emptied plates and bowls, it seemed like there was a special effort to drop them at height into the collecting buckets. It was a noisy and chaotic fare to say the least. Suppers are meant to be comforting but it seemed that you could not afford to take a break here, starting from the impatient waiters pressurizing to take one's orders. You seriously cannot expect all diners to already know what is on the menu, can you?

Despite the good food served, this eatery is but another one of those classic HK 'Cha Chng Tngs' with little patience and embodiment of the ethos that 'Customers are always right'.

I was recommended to try this place from a friend and had kept my expectations (with regards to service low) since its really not known for their hospitality, but is extremely well known for their eggs and egg desserts. I was definitely pleasantly surprised by the ham and egg sandwich. It was really yummy!!! I'm really glad I tried it and would definitely recommend it for an economical and casual tea time. Yums! I will be back to try the desserts next time!!!

Lived in HONG KONG for 22 years and I have been there a few times. I never would have a craving to go and only go when in the neighborhood with friends. It is consistently mediocre. The food is basic but what I hate about this place is its staff and how they cram you in and pack you like sardines even if the place is half full or empty. Sure they like to maximize the place but on a Sunday when its not busy? And like other before me, the staff are really bad...I fell like being served by triads. There is NO sense of gratitude or welcome.

Over-hyped and nothing changes. Maybe the owners owns the building and don't care and there is only one outlet so that tells me this place has a - we could care less for customers attitude.

If I only had two words to describe Australia Dairy Company, it would be Comfort Food.

Their food gives you a warm, fussy, homey feeling - that is, if you discount the rude, hurried and unhygienic looking waiters. And the crowded and noisy ambience. This place must have the highest (and fastest) turnover rate for customers. You come here to get your toast and creamy noodle soup fix and you get out. This is no place for dallying.

I had the creamy spaghetti soup with ham and toast with fried eggs and ham. (Yes, I like ham.) They weren't kidding when they called the noodle soup creamy; it really was very creamy. And the toast was pretty thick, lavishly spread with butter, and toasted to perfection. Even the milk tea was creamy. In fact, it's the creamiest milk tea I've ever had. And then I had the hot milk custard/pudding which was absolutely creamy as well. After this night of creaminess, I didn't want anything creamy for the next week.

But it's been two weeks so I think I'm ready for more creamy-milky again.

This 茶餐廳 is an other HK classic.

So we just finished the noodles from next door then the greedy stomach next to me decided she wanted an egg sandwich, which made me wonder what was so special about this sandwich.

As usually you would be greeted by the waiter with unique manners. But it's not the service you are trying to enjoy here, or may be its just part of the package that made this a HK classic.

So this sandwich. It was basically bread with an ultra thick layer of scramble egg. The egg was well seasoned and it enhanced the egg flavour.

The success of this sandwich = bread x egg

Now keep reading before you start to curse me.

The bread was fluffy, chewy and slightly sweet

The egg was smooth, thick and packed with flavours

Eat any of these alone would be as interesting as your daily trip to work.

But eating both together gave a wonderful reaction. The contrast in texture and flavours. The principles of great food beautifully demonstrated here in this busy urban restaurant.

Luckily we didn't get the cheese with egg or ham with egg sandwich otherwise the beauty of the egg would be hidden away.

Simple ingredients X heart = simply delicious

I really wanted to like this restaurant. It has such high ratings and people here generally seem to love it. So my wife and I made our way to Jordan after running some errands to try the much heralded Australian Dairy. As we walked up, we gestured to a worker that we wanted a table and were seated right away. The bustling energy of the place is what first struck me. Everyone was doing what came naturally, enjoying the food and chatting away with friends and family. The atmosphere was actually quite fun! But when it came to the food, we were sorely disappointed. Everything was just...OK. I had an egg sandwich, macaroni in chicken soup with a fried egg, and a cold egg custard desert. I was really hoping for something spectacular, but it just didn't strike me as anything special. Scrambled eggs? Yes they were good. Macaroni in chicken soup? Yes it was ok. But is it really something to write home about? Sorry, not for me. I have come to the conclusion that this type of food is a novelty here and that after years of noodles and rice people are starved for something different. Except what is different to locals is not so different to ABC's like me.

As a person who lives in the HKisland, I seldom go to the kowloon side, unless i have got something to do there.
I have always wanted to visit Australia Diary Company as i had tried it when i was really small and i clearly remembered that the food there was good. I am sure i had a good time there, or else i won't possibly remember something for so long.

Finally, i had a chance to visit Jordan so I decided to go to 澳洲牛奶公司.
There were many people lining up in front of the restaurant. I had to queue for like 15 minutes but it didn't matter as long as it was worthwhile. And you know you always have to wait for the good things

I ordered the most popular set there which included- toast, scrambled eggs, ham, macaroni with roasted pork and coffee/tea.
5 minutes later or even LESS than 5 minutes, the food came. That was an incredible speed, i finally realized what efficiency meant The scrambled egg was well cooked, still soft and moist. *sprinkle a little salt on top made it tasted even better
Nothing special with the ham but it was always the best partner of egg.

Macaroni with roasted pork at the back. Personally I would not bother to eat it i still had to leave room for the steamed egg white!Iced milk tea. I was quite surprised about its size but it tasted nice.
The tea flavor went well with the milk and it was very smooth. The taste of the tea stayed in my throat for quite a whileI chose to order a steamed egg white as dessert.
That was amazing! The texture was incredibly soft and smooth, seemed like melting in my mouth. There was a good balance between the taste of the milk and egg and it was slightly sweetened.
That made a perfect ending of my meal.

After the meal, I had proved that the 15 minutes of waiting was worthy enough!
I don't mind lining up for this simple yet pleasant meal

If you ask for one of the best Hong Kong-style restaurant, the Australia Dairy Company would definitely be one of the answers. Not only is it tasty but also its efficiency which reflects much of a Hong Kong lifestyle.
The shop is not small but it's always crowded. It's not surprising to find a queue outside the restaurant. You probably should always be ready to squeeze with other people at a small table. You would perhaps want to think about what to eat before entering the restaurant because the waiters in there probably would have no patience to wait for you to decide what to eat, and do not expect politeness from them. You wouldn't get scolded or receiving a hard look if you respond fast and precise enough because people in here is all about efficiency and you wouldn't want to be slow or any demanding.
Back to the food, the signature food item here that makes it so famous is their scrambled eggs. Probably the same for everyone, we all ordered a set which includes a char siu macaroni / spaghetti in soup, ham, scrambled eggs / fried egg, and toast, one typical Hong Kong style set. For myself, I picked macaroni and of course their famous scrambled eggs.
The char siu macaroni in soup was served in a blink of the eye. It arrived almost immediately after you've ordered it. It was a very typical Hong Kong style macaroni in soup. The broth was flavorsome, and the char siu pieces were not too fatty and tasted nice as it's not too dry nor rigid. The soup base was flavorsome and not too heavy, which blends well with the char siu and the macaroni.
Then came the ham and egg with toast. There was nothing special about the ham. As for the toast, it was toasted for a perfect time. The surface was golden brown and crunchy, but the inside remained a soft and fluffy texture. I couldn't find a perfect word to describe the scrambled eggs. It was very smooth and velvety. It's not rich and heavy in a Western way, it sort of has a flavor of scrambled eggs in the Chinese way together with a velvet texture of a Western style buttery and creamy scrambled eggs.One set is basically enough for a person, but I was feeling like having something sweet to wrap up the dinner so I ordered a Steamed Egg Whites and Milk Pudding.It was very smooth and silky. Every bite was like it's slipping through your lips. It was very sweet though, that some may find it a bit too sweet but perfect for those who has a smooth tooth. It was nice indeed yet I think it wasn't great enough as it the flavor of milk is indistinct. It's more like the sweetness took over instead of the milk.
The set mentioned earlier included a drink as well. I ordered a Yin Yang, which is a Hong Kong style drink which mixes milk tea and coffee together. The proportion of the two drinks are well balanced. It was very smooth too but the flavor wasn't stunning enough.
The food here was indeed pleasant. Even with the crowded environment, noisy atmosphere, impatient and occasionally rude waiters, people just can't stop coming here just to have a taste of perfect Hong Kong style food, especially the scrambled eggs of course. The efficiency of waiters is also an experience that one could no longer find a better one in places other than this. The characteristic of this place is its utter reflection of Hong Kong lifestyle, culture and cuisine. It's a place for the aged ones to return and reminisce the old times, and it's a place for the young ones to come and experience the local lifestyle of Hong Kong people, as well as a place for tourists to encounter the local culture. There may be lots of negative comments about the people and service here, but it's undeniable that it's just reflecting much of the local culture and apparently all these 'negative' things have not stopped people from coming for years. It totally outweighs all the negative views and proves that it's worthy to come.
