I arrived at Tin Hung at around 5:00pm, the interior is tiny with no more than 15 seats, since time was still early there were only 3 customers including myself.
I originally wanted to order the roasted pork + goose with rice, but I was told that the roasted pork had been sold out, so I ordered the roasted goose with rice and the soup of the day.
The roasted goose must be eaten hot and fresh, the skin was quite crispy, but I didn't think the meat was tender and succulent enough, notwithstanding it tasted very good. The goose pieces were placed on top of some cabbage, although not of a quantity to satisfy the health conscious gourmets, it was better than none.
The soup of the day were prepared by large pig bones, winter melon, sweet dates and almonds, it was of boiling temperature and it was discernible that no artificial favouring had been added.
The wife and husband sitting nearby come from HK Island to Yuen Long to taste the roasted goose, the husband want a dish of goose leg with rice, but a man in charge of the shop told us that because in the past most of the take away customers had wanted the lower quarter of the goose (with the leg), the company then changed its policy that only the upper quarter can be sold to take away customer seperately, if the customer want the goose leg, he must buy half of a goose(upper + lower). Therefore, the husband were left with two alternatives, either to buy half of a goose himself, or to wait for a take away customer who wanted the upper half (more difficult I think!).
Staffs were friendly, air conditioning was cool enough in the hot summer afternoon, traditional old shop with simple furniture, it is the quality of food that really counts.
