Always Have Attitude Problems! Just OK Jan 22, 2011
Share with MessengerShare on TwitterShare on Facebook
Every now and then I would buy take out from this place. Not exactly cos of their cooking, but more cos of convenience and good value. But each time that I come to order, I always have to face with their attitude problems. I don't recall ever that they take my orders nicely. Maybe they are just too well-known that they don't really need to treasure our biz. For myself, more than once, I placed my take-out order and they took my money ... .and never told me how long I need to really wait. And then I just patiently stand there (today in the cold) to wait ..... wait for what???? ...... the owner (cook) to come back from his break/duties to cook my noodle. From order till receive my noodle, I think it's about 10 mins ..... when there's no other orders in front of me lor!!!!

Although they have attitude problems .... (I even saw once a customer complaining on the temp of her dessert and the lady owner was screaming back and supporting herself of why the dessert is neither cold/hot ... but warm) ..... anyways, this type of attitude can only survive in a noodle/dessert stand like they are!

Back to the food, I ordered a 筋腩麵:
    筋腩麵 - $19
    筋腩麵 - $19

Their 筋腩 is just perfect. However, their soup has a lot of 皂水 and strong 腩汁 ..... which you must drink a lot of water to dilute it down.

But then, they did give a good portion for the price they charge. So although I have complaints, but I still cannot say they are that bad, cos their food is alright.

Traditional Chinese Desserts Smile Oct 22, 2010

This is a Dai Pai Dong, which means outdoor seating, so if you're not ready for a local experience with stools on the uneven concrete floor, please look elsewhere! The dessert shack is located on Elgin Street near Hollywood Road, so there's not too much vehicle traffic.

For HKD 8 for a bowl of traditional chinese dessert (red bean, green bean or coconut soup), it's a great bargain. The soups aren't the standard ones that you get at restaurants. This place shows that specialization does matter and traditional desserts are all about labor and time.

Consider skipping dessert when dining in SoHo and come try the authentic HK experience!

Went here for dessert after lunch with my friend. My friend chose the 糖不甩 and actually it turned out to be very good! Nice big round glutinous rice balls and nice sweet peanut coconut sauce! However, it may be slightly a bit too expensive - $7 compared to their sweet green bean soup! I think $7 may be a bit too much, should be reduced to $5.

Also, my friend was a bit freaked out by the waiter's looks. She complained that he looked a bit scary. But I guess he just looked like that. Anyway, the food was good!

Good dessert! Smile Nov 21, 2009  (Related Review)

Went here for dessert today after lunch with my friend.

She chose this place because it's cheap and apparently good for value.

Anyway, this time we both went for the warm green bean soup as it was pretty cold!

The green bean soup again tasted very good! I especially like the 海帶 and the 薏米 mixed together! Seriously, the warm one tastes better than the cold ones as the cold ones may appear a bit too sweet!

All in all, it's very cheap, just costs $7 per bowl and good for value! A little bit slanted though when we were sitting. We were kind of afraid that the bowls might fall over.

Went here today after lunch with my friend for some green bean soup. There weren't that many people. Seating wasn't that bad.

    We ordered the

bowl Cold 海帶綠豆湯: it was very delicious this time compared to what I had last time! Dunno why, but last time it tasted too sweet. This time, after lunch, I ordered the same cold green bean soup and it tasted so delicious! The sweetness was just right. The seaweed was tender and I loved the fact that they put in 薏米!

All in all, it was very cheap, cost only $7.5. Seating wasn't extremely comfortable. Service wasn't the best. But what else can you expect for just $7.5? I would definitely go there again if I want some cheap dessert from time to time.
Very good cold green bean soup! Good for value!

Not bad...worth trying Just OK Oct 07, 2009

Was taken to the restaurant by a friend and finally tried out the Green Bean Soup (Cold) 海帶綠豆沙 and 糖不甩...the 糖不甩 was excellant smile warm and great taste...however, the 海帶綠豆沙 was not bad, but a bit too sweet...I'm sure it would be a lot better if it were not as sweet...

dun think it serves the best dessert in town, but definitely worth trying smile most importantly, it's very good value for money

    More Nostalgia......
I was living on Caine Road in the early 90's when I was single, and I walked by this Dai Pai Dong everyday on my way to work. Back then it was run by an old couple, and I always worried about their health (they were really old!). At that time the Elgin Steet and Staunton Street were both very run down with lots of printing factory.
Today I had a haircut at nearby Visage, the salon that turn into a Jazz & Blues club every other Saturday. After the haircut I decided to treat myself with some sweet. I had the cold green bean soup with seaweed. It was as refreshing as ever, and the green bean was "sand like", meaning that it had been cooked for a long time. I remember watching the old couple boiling those green bean in a hugh metal pot. Now the couple is replaced by a younger lady. I guess she must be their daughter.
Their dumpling with sugar, coconut and sesame is also recommended. But as I was on my own it would be too much food. Next time may be.
