Good food but poor service  Apr 22, 2013
Share with MessengerShare on TwitterShare on Facebook
Food is generally good. We had a refreshingly light salad, pasta in black truffle sauce, and a baked fish fillet. Though portions were small, they were all freshly cooked and light to the taste. Drinks that came with the set meals were also refreshing. smile

Unfortunately, service no doubt needs improvement. Second time to have tried this place in two months but have seen no improvement in service. Twice my friends and I were hurried to finish our dishes- the main course was given to us almost immediately after the entrees that we were in the middle of eating. What also annoyed us was that the plates used for both entrees and main course were too wide to fit on the mini table we were given. The waitresses were like hawks waiting for us to finish our meals. They tried to clear up our dishes and yet we had not finished eating! Tonight's service was worse - one of the waitresses tipped a glass over her tray as she was rushing pass me. The glass shattered onto the floor with the broken pieces right under my seat! Though I was unhurt, the restaurant managers did not apologies and we had to pay 10% service charge.

    Italian oxtail soup
Well seasoned, tasted of beef and enhanced by some cognac?

    Caesar salad
Generally ok but bacon not crispy like rubber

the soup works OK with the bread, but the bread wasn't too soft.

    Squid ink risotto
Not too sticky but good. You can taste the squid flavour and it wasnt too heavy either. Be warned that you need extra tissues to wipe your lips haha.

    Baby Tasting menu
Toast is crispy and truffle is reasonable shocked
The salad - has wasabi sauce good with roe and salmon
    Spaghetti - too sweet

This is actually the best dish of the whole lunch!!!!lol

    overall i guess 6.5/10

    Bad Service  May 29, 2012
Share with MessengerShare on TwitterShare on Facebook
If I could bother to see all the reviews , I would be prepared their bad service.

Food is average but the service is really put me off.

9pm arrived at the Rest. waiting to get a table. I can peek inside that there are some empty tables. Being polite, I did not push to get a seat........ Don't know if the staff just want to create a queue outside or they are just lazy. My friend and I still need to wait about 20-25 mins. Particulary keep on seeing people come out from the restaurant.

About 10 mins after totally finishing the salad and soup, surprise...... the croissant suddenly arrived ! the food order can be so out of order.! Made me wonder do they know how to run a Western Restaurant or they just don't like us, try to play practical joke on us. If so, they really do it well. My main course arrival first and about 15 mints later my friend's one arrived....why can't they arrive together......what is going on ? Really wanted to talk in Fxxx language.....Is it because they are in Mongkok or what?

Whole meal did not enjoy it. Being told from the next table that they prefer go to Cafe de Carol. ha ha

Wonder if this kind of restaurant is only just for the LOOK ? Good luck to them.

resonable priced food!  Just OK Mar 29, 2012
Share with MessengerShare on TwitterShare on Facebook
Its always nice to go to a thematic restaurant so me and my friend decided to go dine at babys cafe on last thursday.... We arrived at 7pm and luckily there wasn't a queue so we were taken to our seats straight away....

After 10mins we were seated, the soup and a croissant came. The soup was descent but the croissant was hard and a little greasy, and it wasnt freshly baked.!

Then my main course 'baked peppered chicken fillet' came. The dish was nicely presented with lots of greens and the taste of the fillet was good, i couldn't help but to stare at that layer of oil that was floating over the dish.....That really did make me lose my appetite.!

Overall, the food weren't amazing like the other people have said but I can see that angelababy has put a lot of thoughts and efforts into this restaurant.

Baby Size of Food in Baby Cafe Just OK Dec 01, 2011
Share with MessengerShare on TwitterShare on Facebook
The latest venture by Ms Angelababy – the ‘Baby Cafe’ is newly opened in Langham Place, it interested me to give a try since it’s the first café/ restaurant owned and invested by Ms Angelababy.

Among all those ‘teen models’ in Hong Kong, Ms Angelababy is the most famous and successful one. I am not a ‘super fan’ of her but I admit to say that she has built a positive and significant image.

It’s always nice to visit a ‘thematic restaurant’. I see how Ms Angelababy makes use of her reputation to create such thematic restaurant. I adore the French interior design (black and white colors of the floral sky and elegant furniture) and the equipments for dinning with the print of her name. It creates such strong atmosphere that ‘it’s her place’. Simply ignore the addiction of a fan, it already creates an interesting and attractive selling point as a ‘thematic’ restaurant. I think other ‘thematic restaurants’ can take it as a reference.

However, after my first visit, my mood drops from the beginning of feeling ‘exciting’ to the end of feeling nothing:

After one hour+ waiting for a table (I had actually called on the fone two times in the week, the lady on the fone kept telling me ‘full booking’ and I could ‘try’ for walking-in), we were finally being settled in (we had been told that we ONLY had 1.5 hrs for dinning in) and had ordered two set dinners (HKD108+10% @ each) plus two ‘smoothie drinks’ (HKD18+10% @ each).

Our drinks - the Princess Smoothie(taste: Lychee and Aloe) arrived firstly. A bit too sweet but acceptable. Very ordinary drink.

Following the salad arrived accordingly. It’s a ‘baby’ size dish though, It’s acceptable for the taste of green and smoked chicken breast. When we were done with the salad, the ‘baby’ size bread arrived suddenly. Well, it’s quite weird since we had already finished the salad. No soup nor salad to taste with the bread, also the bread was cold and not warm enough. It is deducting marks.

After another 15mins+ of waiting, our main courses came finally! The Berkshire pork with tomato herb sauce looked acceptable. It looked like '10oz' as it stated. Finally a dish which is NOT in ‘baby’ size.

The dish for spring chicken is horribly small. I know it’s spring chicken but I wonder, it is the ‘baby’ of the spring chicken? How could it be such petit? The ‘baby’ spring chicken is served on a hot iron platter, but inside the meat, it was still a bit reddish. It’s also very boney and not meaty in overall feeling..
    baby size spring chicken

It’s definitely interesting of running such thematic restaurant. I believe it absolutely can attract many teenagers and ‘baby lovers’ stopping by for a try. But if the ‘French style of slow service’ and the ‘poor quality of baby size frozen’ food cannot be improved, I think it is a waste of using the reputation of Ms Angelababy. I definitely don’t wanna spend another 1 hour+ waiting for such local style ‘french petit’ dinner.

Disappointed, only a fancy try Cries Nov 10, 2011
Share with MessengerShare on TwitterShare on Facebook
Read about this new outlet from a press release in newspaper, although I'm not a fan of Angela or other pop artists, it sounds quite interesting to pay a visit and see how this "concept cafe" doing. Their marketing has been doing a great job on advertising and promotion, press release, printed advs as well as promotions along the Langham Place.

There is a big poster at the entrance. It's around 1:30pm, peak lunch hours but not fully occupied, nice.

It's very BLACK, black and white interior with black as dominant colour, with her picture as one-side of the wall and some others on the back wall; still I think it can be more aggressive to put more portraits even on the tables as it is a concept theme cafe anyway.

Seating is NOT comfortable at all. The setting and layout can be much better and customer oriented. They have 2-combined tables for 4 with one-sided sofa seating, supposed when there are customers of 2 or just 1, many restaurants will move one of the table slightly apart; to make 2 separate tables. However, they didn't. I was sitting with 2 ladies together, sharing table in such a "cafe". If it's a local cha can ting, 茶餐厅, or fast-food chain, for sure I wouldn't mind. Also, the table is far too heavy to adjust, while I was sitting on the sofa side, I had to lean my body forward to eat because it rather distant. When the lady sitting beside me stood up, the whole sofe moved backwards for over an inch; so strange that the table is heavier than the sofa.

Lunch menu has quite a lot of choices, A and B of starter and main course standing for Angela and Baby. Starter of either lobster bisque or salad; and main courses are several types of pasta, roasted chicken, grilled fish, Japanese pork, etc..and I saw one all-day-breakfast, interesting. Good combination of everything that seems you can definitely find something you want to eat.

The lobster bisque taste ok, not too salty with little lobster meat in there. However, when I finished half, there was 1 cm long spaghetti in it. I was telling myself it's just come from another cookware making spaghetti, along the cooking table....kept telling myself it's not from leftover...again, it's not a low-end 茶餐厅.

Another strange thing was, at least, a bit strange to me; 3 minutes after I finished the soup, around 20 minutes after I ordered my lunch, they served the bread. I don't know if it's their special practise, kind of unique flow of this cafe; but I prefer to have bread at the beginning, at latest serving together with the starter.

It caused another problem, the bread came with the main course, I ordered salmon with spaghetti in tomato sauce; after I finished the bread, the main course became cold.sad One good thing is the bread taste good.

Talking about the main course, very disappointed. The spaghetti, I don't know if the 1cm long leftover-like spaghetti in my soup affect my appetite, was no good at all. I think they use kind of bad quality spaghetti, sourcing low quality of ingredients and no matter how simple it is, they cannot make it nice. The spaghetti was very lose, broken into several pieces. 好散, 好多都断开, 好碎. The fish was fine, medium done with little wasabi on it.

The lunch set includes drink, I thought it's coffee or tea as normal practise. However, they said regular coffee is kind of "special drink" and have to add $18 extra.....What is the drink included, Lychee tea ONLY...sad This rule sounds weird, it's just regular coffee, not cappuccino or other fancy beverage. Never mind, I would like to have coffee, in a "cafe"; the coffee is not bad but the milk was cold, very coldsad...this is another easy improvement they can make, offer hot milk for hot coffee please.

Another service flow matter, I finished the coffee and asked forthe bill, while waiting for the bill, another waitress asked if I want to take a look of the dessert menu, which is actually part of the lunch with additional charge. OMG, this should be donw after I finsihed the main and before the coffee....not after the customer asked for the bill.

One of the 2 ladies sitting next to me was having spaghetti bolognese, looks small portion in a pot; while her friend asking her if that's ok, she said..."no, no good at all". When they left, the last comment was "it's a disappointing try". Hm...I was thinking the same too.

After all, it's a fancy try, service was friendly, however the food quality was not satisfied , only the bread and coffee were nice. Most likely, won't come back again.
