Had the special lunch set, with parma ham and cheese...

The bread was hugh and so hard, it's difficult to bite...no way close to crunchy!!!!
    Presentation was nice...but still...食到咀都損huffy

Asked for tea, but no tea serving at the shop...asked for orange juice, unavailable too...

    Staffs were friendly...still...

Thanks to Mjqueen7e for getting me these treats from Levain.

I have always wanted to try LEVAIN in vain but the location is really inconvenient.

Luckily Mjqueen7e was at the Island East Markets and they had a stall there.

    Almond snowballs:
Initially I did not know what they were but they were interesting because they were very heavy in terms of weight when you held them.
It turns out, Mjqueen7e had already slipped in a card with the name of this but I was too excited and forgot about the card.
When I took them out, they appeared to be hard with a white icing sugar just like a snowball!

It seemed to be a cookie tasting like a buttery shortbread and it was crumbly.
The buttery and flour taste was quite strong, whilst the floury wheat taste lingered which I really liked because it reminds me of Farley's rusk by HEINZ, a teething biscuit for babies, and yes I can remember tastes as far back as that!
Thanks to these snowballs, I remembered another baby teething biscuit which is harder in terms of texture than Farley's.

Red Wine Logan and Walnut  Just OK Jul 30, 2012

I always want to find a good sandwich place. However, never able to.
My mom told me that there's one really famous in central.
I went online searched and went with my friend.

We ordered one sandwich to share. In case we both don't like it.
    Lucky, we have ordered one.

The bread was too hard that i can't even bite it. They should not choose this kind of bread to make the sandwich.

Before i left, I bought a red wine logan and walnut back home for my parents.
Which they really like it. I have tried it and it was not that bad.
There's a lot of walnut and logan. Here i do give them credit.

salmon sandwich had a great taste, with nice little detailed flavourings. the bread itself met my expectations and was comparable with the european sourdough bread. recommended!!

Nice Bread! Just OK Aug 23, 2011
Share with MessengerShare on TwitterShare on Facebook
    Purchased coupon and tried LeVain
Got really sweaty to walk from Central to LeVain
We didnt call to reserve a table in advance, luckily there was still bar tables available for us.
The shop is tiny but cosy

    Salad with Honey Becon

The Salad was fresh and the becon was sweet and nice, but obviously TOO OILY! Would be nice if they reduce the amount of olive oil

The two breads are quite nice, except that its quite difficult to cut into pieces (too hard!)
Also one of them (with white truffle oil) has got too much oil on it --- that the bottom of the bread is completely soaked which affeceted the texture + the oil doesnt taste like truffle at all. Would be nicer if they can reduce the quantity of oil

nice sandwiches Smile Jun 23, 2011

I found this new cafe last Sat and went for a quick lunch. It's got very dark rye bread that's almost danish - in fact they do have some smorrebrod-like salmon sandwich.

I had a vegetarian goat cheese and buffalo cheese and tomato salad sandwich which is HUGE and quite tasty. The bread is slightly toasted and all the ingredients are so fresh - I especially like the olive oil which brings all the flavors out. It's so big I could only finish half so I took the other half for dinner. Therefore, it's actually pretty cheap for 2 light meals. I also paid an extra $5 for a Latte. The coffee is not bad neither, given the place features bread only rather than its drinks.

The waitress is so cheerful and sweet. It's a nice place to chill or to work. Will definitely be back soon.
