Thanks to Amina Modern European restaurant for inviting me to this tasting.

Before I came, I did not realise it was a private kitchen so when we were walking down Cameron Road, we over shot it because I was looking for the commercial buildings.
This building requires an entry code access.

When I arrived at the restaurant, we had a really nice spacious private room.

I felt that this place is a really good place for celebrities to dine because it was truly private without windows.

We tried their monthly set menu and oysters from their bar.

    ★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
    Bread with aubergine puree:
Started off with the bread and aubergine puree.
The aubergine puree reminded me of Mediterranean baba ganoush.
    ★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
    Oysters:

The oysters are from the US and the size of them were huge.
The oysters were opened nicely and did not have any shell fragments in it.
I like my oysters in natural form so I only applied lemon juice to it and the oyster was lovely and creamy.
    ★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
    STARTER: Crab pumpkin salad:

The colour of this was really nice and on top of it there was a poached quail's egg which was mega cute!
It must be hard poaching a quail egg because of its size.
The pumpkin salad was lovely and moist packed with crabmeat on a bed of delicious sprouts.
    ★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
    STARTER: Beef Tartar:

The beef tartar was nicely done it had finely chopped garlic, black pepper in it.
The cracker on top was extremely delicious and reminds me of a Ryvita.
For improvements I felt that the beef could have been minced more finely because the beef was still in long strips.

    ★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
    Seafood ink soup:

I was really looking forward to this soup because the ink soup I had at Naha did not bear much squid ink taste.
When it came, it was artfully decorated with white cream on top.
The soup tasted really nice because it tasted of fish as well as squid ink which was added when the soup was nearly done so that the taste is still there.
    ★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
ENTREE: Foie gras, parma ham and hollandaise sauce:

The foie gras was thinly sliced and cooked evenly which was delicious with the parma ham and toast.
    ★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
    ENTREE: Crab cake:

Usually crab cakes are round but this one looked like a croquette.
It had fish roe on top which gave the crab cake more flavour.
    ★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
    ENTREE: Guava sorbet:

The sorbet was interesting because it is usually served for dessert. I believe it was there to act as a refresher and prepare you for the main course.
The guava was really strong you could smell it despite it was frozen and it had real guava in it because I could taste the grounded guava pips.
    ★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
MAIN COURSE: Beef cheek braised in red wine:

I love beef cheeks because it is the most tender part of beef.
When I put my fork into it, it did not need any effort because it was so soft that you could use your fork to separate it!
The taste of this was delicious with rich red wine sauce and buttery mash beneath it.
    ★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
MAIN COURSE: Chefs special – Scallops trio delight:

Each scallop was seared and topped with toppings, from left to right was dried prawn roe, caviar and carmelised scallop.
The size of these scallops were huge, they were slightly seared and still tender inside.
My favourite was the first because the prawn roe acted like salt with a prawny taste.
The carmelized one was good too because the caramel was glazed onto the scallops giving it a crispy texture.
    ★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
    Jasmine and osthmanthus tea:

I do not really drink floral teas but this was surprisingly nice because the osthmanthus was not that strong and the Jasmine balanced it out.
It was pretty with osthmanthus flowers floating on top.
    ★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
    Dessert:

The raspberry sorbet was really nice and refreshing, it was lovely and tart followed by the delicious macarons.

pour quality food ! Cries Dec 27, 2011

poor quality and very expansive... 2 of my original choices were not available, wagyu beef taste Like local market beef and was not eatable (taste like not fresh meet); other dishes such as scallops with mango sauce ( still wonder were was the sauce for the 2 lonely scallops on my plate) or risotto were not worth even à trial.... bread was spongy, and dessert was a small creme brule, which taste ok but was so small ! for 480 dollars per head wihout any drink- except a tea at the end of the diner-i could have enjoyed a great dinner in some real restaurant... as a french, i know what i am talking about...as the service was however friendly, 2/20 seems pretty fair....as for other review,, either they are not genuine, either it was first Time those people tried western food....by thé way, before drinking water, Check how clean is your glass...

As with these private kitchens, it's a flat inside a random building configured to fit several tables, and the bedrooms end up as VIP rooms that provide some intimacy. As there were 8 of us, we were seated bang in the middle of what would have been someone's living room. The oyster bar allowed us to examine the jet fresh delicacies, but ultimately we went with the owner Peter's choice. Free corkage and champagne flutes (some places charge you for that, or a change or glasses, can you imagine). We were the loudest bunch there so I can't say if the other customers enjoyed the setting as much as we did, but boy did we have a good night.

Attention was given to details such as lemon-scented water, fresh warm soft (and unlimited) bread was served with garlic paste and olive oil/aceto balsamico in a pretty 2-in-1 flask. The only thing some that some of the taller members of our group commented on was that the table cloth was somehow tucked into the tables which did not allow them to stretch their legs. The lighting was dim enough to be romantic yet still allows you to read the menu with ease, and admire the food that was aesthetically presented.

On to the food. There were several choices in each section, and we managed to try almost all the dishes there. Some of us had oysters which were briny and succulent.

The starters were salmon carpaccio with pumpkin or prawns with avocado, and both were delectable morsels of goodness, super fresh and lightly seasoned.

The green pea soup was refreshing, and the mixed vegetable puree was warming and hearty.

I had the pigeon with tomato cous cous for entree, and others opted for the scallop with poached egg and a hollandaise sauce, which was beautifully done, especially the egg with a fantastic consistency of egg yolk, almost like an onsen egg. The pigeon was very gamey and meaty, which I found very flavourful and would strongly recommend it unless you don't like game.

Then came a rather creamy sorbet to cleanse the palate (someone asked why they don't just give us mouthwash and a spittoon. Ask the French). And then a smorgasbord of some of the best main courses I've had in a while were delivered to our table. My seafood lasagne was a huge portion of seafood sandwiched between al dente pasta sheets, topped with a chunky tomato sauce and beautifully melted cheese. The duck breast looked fab and I was assured that the diner was very satisfied with it. The lamb chops fared well, and I got to taste some of the risotto that accompanied the dark chocolate pork, which unfortunately was a tad too hard but otherwise nicely seasoned (sorry about the fuzzy picture). The portion of squid ink pasta that came with the pan-fried seabass was a little small for my friend, and I found it to be too salty after stealing a bite from him.

Then came unlimited refills of seasoned flower tea (which resulted in a debate of how to kindly decline the offer for another refill. Answer: just don't drink it any more). And dessert was a creme brulee which was small enough to fit into our bursting stomachs but just enough to finish off the palate with something sweet. Kudos to the staff for a wonderful dinner and you guys have definitely stood out amongst the myriad of private kitchens out there. Keep up the good work.

We love trying out food at private kitchen especially with no corkage......we are a group of wine lovers as well. The restaurant is located inside an old commercial building and the deco is simple. As there were a big party in the main hall, we were put to sit in a room. Just perfect for 4 of us for a little quiet chat. The staff are very nice and friendly. They are very attentive and check on us from time to time. We had a nice dinner and will be back again.

When we ordered, the waiter kindly asked if we would like to try the oysters. We tried 4 different ones as suggested and they were nice and fresh.

The starters are very refreshing, mainly salad with either egg, prawn or salmon.

We all tried the bean soup and it was nice as well.

There are 4 choices of entree. We all tried different ones. The portion is just right and taste good. There are 6 different choices of main course. I chose Wagyu and Foie Gras, both are nicely cooked. One friend tried the Brasata 58% Dark Chocolate Pork with Tomato Cream Risotto, the course is nice but just something missing about the Chocolate sauce. We later discussed with the boss (we think he is) and he said they had tried different tastes for this sauce and came up with this one. We suggested them to add some chopped toasted nuts or cinnamon on the top to bring out the favour. The dessert was chocolate mousse, not too sweet as I like.

7 of us went there for a "last supper" of our lovely colleague.
They gave us a very nice room, decoration is nice, big table which can fit 8 people, great home feeling with privacy.

As I can tell from my friends expressions, as well as the previous posts, the oyster is superb and high quality, however, I do not eat oyster and I tried other set dinner. I have chosen the 和牛+prawn set dinner, and it was 5 courses meal...

Before the meal, the manager recommended their home-made spread, which actually quite nice and special, see the little thing on the right hand side of the photo. Since it is special, it was not provided much (that was the joke from the manager), we asked for more of cause.

It was ashamed that I have forgot to take photo of the main course, now can only show how big the prawn was... 和牛 was superb too... really good quality as for this amount of price.

Good stuff, suprised, should come back for next "last supper"
