Randomly felt like having some Waffles one day, and the first restaurant that popped up in openrice was the Green Waffle Diner. It's located along Graham Street, perpendicular to Lyndhurst Terrace. The wall at the entrance of the diner was filled with many promotion posters and articles about Green Diner, so definitely the right place to visit!

Originally, I wanted to go on Monday but their rest day was Monday - so you readers don't forget about this! Arrived there at around 12pm on a rainy Friday and was promptly seated in the empty restaurant. Within minutes, the restaurant was already packed with people. As I did not book a table, the waitress kindly told my friend and I to return the table at 115pm. The place looked very relaxing and chill, shame that the aircon above me was slightly too strong. Their lunch menu had 5 options, but for the greedy me, I wish they had some breakfast options in it too! Anyways, it includes a coffee or tea and half a waffle - very cute and just the right proportion before I stuff myself with too much waffle. I wanted to try lunch set 5 (caramel apple crunch waffle with daily soup) but I was too tempted to try the mac & cheese pasta.
Lunch Menu
The macaroni cheese quickly arrived within 5 minutes after order and was still bubbling on the skillet. Tasted perfect, with al dante macaroni and a well portioned sauce. Shame that my friend's beef quesadiallas did not arrive at the same time, but the chips were well spiced and fried.
Waitresses are fluent in both Cantonese and English. All really considerate and friendly. Bonuses •FREE WIFI

Decided to have waffle and ice cream for dessert. Opted for the original with vanilla and hazelnut but they were out so went for chocolate instead. When the waffle came it looked and smelt good but the waffle was too light and seemed a little under-cooked. Also the ice cream was icy which is a sin for ice cream! I have been to Green Waffle Diner a few times and it was great, not sure what happened on this occasion. Despite this one time bad experience, I will visiting GWD again.

We'd had our eye on this place for a while, and came in for lunch when the sushi place across the way didn't have a table for us. I thought it was good. Overall, we had a great experience, and will definitely come back, as many of the menu items seemed worth a try. Before moving here, I lived in the land of diners (Jersey) and it's nice to have some of that same experience here. A- Table Wait Time: 0 minute(s)

I am yet to find a better place than Green Waffle Diner for waffles in Hong Kong! Inconspicuously located on Graham Street, Green Waffle Diner is a cosy American-style diner which serves comfort food from chicken wings and steak sandwiches to pancakes and waffles. It is best known for their pandan waffles, and they have an amazing recipe which ensures that the waffles are incredibly light and fluffy! Food is not expensive to start with, and during the week, they have a great-value set lunch for $83 which includes a hearty main course, half a waffle and coffee/tea. Note, though, that bookings for lunch can only be made for 12.15pm or 1.15pm – rather inconvenient for most people, but that just shows how popular this eatery is! I personally prefer to come here in the weekend for a chilled afternoon tea, when this small restaurant is less crowded. (1) The Reuben ($101) is Green Waffle Diner’s signature dish, and it is a grilled sandwich served on slices of rye bread, pilled high with sliced corned beef and sauerkraut, melted Swiss cheese, and the secret Reuben sauce. The rye bread was nicely grilled, the steak was generous in portion and not too salty and the melted cheese was stringy and moreish. The “secret Reuben sauce” actually tasted like thousand island dressing, and I absolutely loved this sandwich!

Walked in at noon on Saturday, plenty of seats (probably due to the rain and the location is up a pretty steep slope).
the overall environment was very american: the menu, the condiments (they even have steak sauce!), the portion, haha very homey feeling Service was also very friendly, not fine-dining level, but friendly nonetheless. My friend requested vegetarian egg benedict and the waiter worked with kitchen to tweak it a bit to remove the ham and added some salad on the side.

Yesterday I went for dinner here again (after having lunch with my colleagues last week) while I am craving for WAFFLE. As expected, it's as good as my lunch! We've ordered 2 set dinners which starts with tomato soup - unexpectedly good! Very creamy!
PS: There is wifi provided there / worst thing is it's a small area and you feel bad to sit there and chat for too long! Date of Visit: Feb 21, 2012 Spending per head: Approximately HKD240(Dinner) Other Ratings: Taste 4 | Environment 4 | Service 4 | Hygiene 4 | Value for Money 3

First time I went there it was dinner and I was impressed by - - Steak skillet - cheesy, yummy steak bits, potatoes, onions. A bit oily but very delicious. Would imagine to be a great hangover cure. - Salmon and dill linguine - amazing!! This was the dish that really impressed me as they really took their time into experimenting ways to improve this common dish. Loads of dill, lemongrass, GINGER; amazing combination, very flavorful. - Shakes - good, refreshing - Berry berry waffle - very fresh and generous dried mixed berry sauce; waffle - light, crispy, just the way i like it - Pork knuckle - ah, so-so; large portion So excitedly I went again for a weekend brunch, but theres a huge difference in quality in the breakfast menu - - Toast was way too dry - Eggs over and easy were too overcooked - Sausage just tasteless - Eggs Royale on waffle - usually a great sucker for eggs benedict but this was a disappointment. The hollandaise sauce was tasteless!!! Hows that possible? Usually I find eggs benedict too rich in taste but I had to put in loads of salt and pepper to make this tolerable. The poached eggs - white part rather too firm; yolk was alright; sides was greatly disappointing, a plateful of tiny potato bits only. A little of them would be fine in the skillet, but alone they are too dry and tasteless, and rather difficult to fork together. Would recommend them to give us more side choices, and leave the tiny potatoes, not good. - Hot chocolate - AWFUL. I tried both the regular one and the macadamian nut one, both way to sweet to drink more than 2 sips. It's not chocolatey, it's just SWEET. A bit overpriced as drinks were not included in the breakfast set. Well, I'd still recommend this place for the good dishes, and all in all I can tell the owner really puts his/her heart into it. It's a more comfy place to hang out other than the crowded flying pan. But, much improvement needed on the breakfast menu, afterall, isn't all day breakfast your selling point? Recommended Dish(es):

This comment is only for the smoothies not the food. They are very watered down and I found at least 3 full ice cubes in them. Their taste should be fruity and slightly sweet but they are neither slightly sweet nor fruity. We had the sleeping beauty which tasted like a watered down soy milk with bits in it. And the All nighter which was just as watered down and tasteless and sour ( due to the sour orange juice). Go here for the food not the smoothies. Recommended Dish(es):

This place is nice for a casual snacktime with friends. The classic waffle was light, absolutely not heavy and tasted good with the fruit and sweet sauce that was poured on top of it. I do think that they should have added more whipped cream though. The skillet tasted very nice, but unfortunately the poached was a bit overcooked. But that didn’t take the flavours down of course. Recommendable!

Green Waffle was a complete spur of the moment decision. We were at a networking drinks close by and a friend had just returned from his meal at Green Waffle and recommended we try it. He particularly cited the chicken wings as being top notch. Now, I am generally NOT a fan of chicken wings in HK - I find that they are just not made correctly here and they pale in comparison to anything you can get in the U.S. In fact, I had pretty much sworn off of eating any chicken wings in Hong Kong EVER, so I'm not sure why I allowed my friend to persuade me on this night. I guess it was the beers I had already consumed clouding my judgement as well as the rumbling in my tummy. Green Waffle is a cute enough place. We were stuck into a tiny corner booth and 3 or 4 other tables were full when we arrived at about 930pm. Some groups were there specifically for desert, as we saw plates of hot waffles with ice cream and fruit passing by us. I skimmed the menu but already knew I wanted to try the wings, which I ordered "medium" spicy (you can also try "hot" or "bbq"). My boyfriend ordered a reuben sandwich (which he loves when we go to New York but is generally disappointed by when he tries it in HK). He also wanted to try a pandan waffle, but I didn't feel like a big dessert that night. Service was a bit slow given the small size of the place, but nothing too terrible. The wings were almost predictably disappointing. They were deep-friend and then coated in the sauce, which , in terms of spiciness, barely made my lips tingle. I was also alarmed to see the waitress set them on the table without any celery, carrots or blue cheese (blue cheese being the most important). When I asked for some bleu cheese, she said they no longer serve the wings with blue cheese because so few customers were eating it / asking for it! Then I asked for some ranch dressing (which isn't quite the same, but could do the trick) and they didn't have any of that either. Oh the shame! What kind of customers are eating at Green Waffle?! When the manager came to clear our plates and ask how the food was, I mentioned I was disappointed in the wings. He concurred that he wished they could prepare the wings differently, but it is too difficult and lengthy of a process to bake them when each customer orders them - that is why they deep fry. I think he had spent some time in the U.S., because he also knew the wings should have been served with some blue cheese and celery. Oh well, I will have to wait for my next trip home to have chicken wings again. The reuben was suprisingly fine, though not packed too high with meat, it was tasty but got a little soggy after awhile. There were also no paper towels OR toilet paper in the ladies toilet, which really grossed me out. This is basic hygiene guys! I probably won't give in to my friends' spur of the moment recommendations any more! That said, I am sure "Green Waffle" is a pretty good bet for its namesake cuisine - waffles - so I could be persuaded to stop there once more to try one of their specialty waffles.

we've been walking and walking under the hot sun around central and we've decided that we should find a place to chill out and have a nice bite or else we will probably have melted on the street. we were in Graham Street, and this restaurant popped up on my mind immediately then. the air conditioning was not strong, but we don't want to go outside and find another place, so we've settled down here then. it's a public holiday so there wasn't lunch sets available. since we aren't particularly hungry as well, we just ordered a Country Brunch Skillet and a Green Waffle. well, ordering a skillet was actually a wrong decision since we were basically burning already, but we've heard that this place's skillets are good so we had one anyway.
green waffle w/ vanilla ice cream
if the green waffle was on the highly recommended list, i would be a bit disappointed then. this is because it just tasted like any ordinary waffles. it is said that the green waffle is made with some juice or something but i didn't taste that at all and seemed like an ordinary waffle with several drops of green coloring to me instead. the waffle itself tasted okay, but i don't see anything special about it for being the green waffle. the vanilla ice cream scoop did tasted fresh and light, it's pretty nice. in overall it's quite a nice meal, and i might like to return to try their other skillets or other dishes perhaps, but for waffles, i don't think there's anything so special about them here. Popped in here after passing on my way home. Was feeling a bit hungry so I thought why not. I ordered a pandan waffle with ice cream and a ice tea. The place was very quiet only people in there other than myself was a pair of girls. Despite this service was slow. The waitress took forever to come and take my order even after signalling I was ready. The waffle took a while to arrive but when it did it was worth the wait it seems. However the ice cream that came with the waffle was of very very poor quality, there was a scoop of strawberry, chocolate and vanilla but it obviously cost $10 or less for the packet it came from as they all lacked in flavours. They do give you the option to "upgrade" your ice cream at a cost. If I was to go back I would probably do this as I personally don't think the "ice cream" they served even constitutes as real ice cream. The waffle itself was wonderful, a light green colour with a nice fluffy texture when cut, it made up for the poor ice cream. I might go back again and try one of the other waffles with the upgraded ice cream of course! Recommended Dish(es):

I must say, this is one of the best diners in HK! Their waffles are a MUST-HAVE. I espeically like the white chocolate chip waffle. It's not too sweet (to my standards) and I prefer it without other condiments, well maybe a scoop of ice cream Another great dish i had was the deep fried chicken drumsticks. The drumsticks were huge! They were soo tasty and juicy! Thinking about it is giving me cravings! I also had a fresh fruit smoothie, another highly recommended item, cause it was very refreshing, and they used real fresh fruits! My friend had the steak skillet...very initeresting way of serving the dish. However, I would definitely prefer having the steak less cooked. I highly recommend this diner! A tip for you....I was there during the busiest time on the weekend...12-2:30pm. Suggest for you to got at other times to avoid the crowd Date of Visit: Apr 16, 2011 Other Ratings: Taste 5 | Environment 4 | Service 4 | Hygiene 4 | Value for Money 5

I love diners and was exciting to try this place. Although it's down a little alley and doesn't look like much from the outside, it's quite charming on the inside. I sat down and ordered the eggs Benedict. I got my dish surprisingly fast, took the first bite, and.... THE EGGS WERE COLD! There's nothing like cold eggs to ruin eggs Benedict. So I flagged the waitress and asked for eggs that weren't cold. She picked up the plate without a word and a few minutes later a different waiter came back with my plate and set it down in front of me saying, "There." No apology, just a rude "there," as if the cold eggs were my fault. Determined to make the most of my breakfast I dug in. The dish was OK. I prefer thick country ham on my eggs Benedict, whereas they had used what looked like think lunchmeat ham. The second round of poached eggs were only room temperature, but at least they weren't cold. The home fries (on the side) were probably the best part of the dish. It's unfortunate because the places seems to have a lot of potential, but for me a rude wait staff ruins all that. Long story short, I won't be going back. There are plenty of other great breakfast places in close proximity that have better food AND a waitstaff that appreciates your business. If you're looking for a good breakfast/brunch place, I would recommend The Flying Pan around the corner (right off of Hollywood Road). It's a cute diner with great food and great service (and it's 24/7).
