I visited this highly recommended desert place but was disappointed with the food quality as a whole. We waited for about 10minutes before we were seated, yet to order our food we were asked to move table as there is an empty table further inside the shop. Service was bad, maybe they are too popular! I ordered the shop's specialty but was totally disappointed. Chocolate cake: smooth, not too sweet, worth the visit.creme brûlée: weird taste, something taste artificial.Apple crumble: crumble was like a pile of cookies and apple has no taste at all, bad tryGreen tea ice cream: weird taste again. This set costs HKD98 which is a total ripoff. Definitely not going to visit again!

I've been meaning to pay a visit here to try the egg pudding because it is too darn cute. We ordered the Yakult flavored snow. I don't know what is up with the snow desserts in Hong Kong, they have the weirdest toppings and sauces. I had wanted the taro snow, but it came with KIWI sauce WTH?!?!?!? The yakult snow came with caramel sauce, sounds a little better. The toppings include those balls that burst in your mouth (don't really like those so I ask to not have it), basil seeds, cocoa cereal, and chewy balls (i wished it was mochi balls, they were more like tapioca balls). I'm not sure if you can build your own, but it would be great if they really have that option. The snow was good, but I've had better. The snow was fluffy and moist, however, it lacked yakult flavor. I think it would be great if it was condense milk instead of caramel sauce. Next up was egg pudding, which I really like. It was creamy and eggy. One of the reviewers mentioned that it was small portion, but since it is creamy it is somewhat heavy so there is no need for bigger portion. I think the egg pudding it better than Australia Dairy, if you consider them in the same category.

Egg pudding

This was like a joke. Somehow, I felt like a joke eating it.

Served in a transparent egg shaped container, it was indeed cute. So cute in fact, so small, so tiny, that it was like a toy. When the waiter placed it in front of me, I thought, you’ve got to be kidding me. I had this flash-back of me as a kid presenting my parents with my play-doh creations of miniature food. Dainty servings could signal exquisiteness and value, but in this case, it wasn’t at all exquisite. The surface of the pudding was slightly old and wrinkly, and I presume there was no addition of any overly expensive ingredient that would render it worthy of the description of exquisiteness. And, isn’t egg pudding by definition a commonplace dessert?

After opening the petit toy-like lid and staring at the petit serving of pudding inside, I did a quick calculation – it took 30 seconds after my order to come, and it’ll take me perhaps another 20 seconds to eat. I’d literally be in here 2 minutes tops. You’ve got to be kidding me.

I start eating it anyway, in anticipation of the most amazing egg pudding in the world. My lips touched it and…you’ve got to be kidding me…it wasn’t cold. It was an annoying room temperature. Yet it was obviously pre-prepared and taken from a fridge? It’s a subjective thing, but I hate food at room temperature. It almost triggered my gag reflex. And what about the taste? It was like… egg pudding! I honestly don’t know why I was half anticipating to have my mind blown. I had ordered egg pudding for heaven’s sake. Perhaps it’s because I’ve heard so much praise about it. So I was expecting to be dramatically surprised, to be able to think WOW this is unlike ANY egg pudding I’ve tasted! My bad.

And I knew there was meant to be caramel or something at the base. I didn’t know it was watery caramel. Watery, opaque, like water, but thank god it tasted like caramel. But then this kind of overwhelmed the egg taste of the pudding. Yeah, the pudding did taste eggy but not so eggy it was mind-blowing. So don’t expect to be mind-blown like I was, or the joke will be on you. Do expect to feel like a giant holding a giant spoon eating ordinary egg pudding that’s either pitifully small or pretending (and failing) to be exquisite.

First off, the desserts taste OK. The four of us ordered:

Egg pudding - very creamy and tastes a bit like vanilla flavoured custard;

Apple crumble - this was good, they seem to have added some strawberry jam or something in it and was freshly baked out of the oven;

Mango sago - this was bad, the coconut milk seemed to be diluted; and

Serradura pudding - not bad, was refrigerated long enough to give it a hard texture, which serradura should have.

Now onto the problems. The first problem with this place is that the portions are way too small for the prices they are charging! The egg pudding was $20, apple crumble was something like $38 and I think the other two items were over $30 as well. The portions are barely enough for one person to eat so even though we ordered four desserts for four people to share, we felt like we had hardly eaten anything afterwards. Secondly, this place is extremely hard to find. Its address says it's on Carnarvon Road but the shop itself is actually on the intersection of Prat Avenue and Hart Avenue.

So conclusion, OK dessert place but portions are too small even for Hong Kong standards.

we also had 'pineapple ice'...very big portion can share with 3 or 4 people..

We came relatively early, and there was only two other tables taken. We decided on the pre-set toppings with green tea snowflake ice (I'd have gone for the Taro if not for the pre-set toppings which didn't appeal to either of us).

The pre-set toppings that came with it were red beans, coconut flavoured jelly cubes, white tapioca pearls and black-eyed sago, with a little condensed milk drizzled on top. Very appealing and the snowflake ice was truly a star. The green tea flavour was very well pronounced and not to sweet. Texture-wise, it was melt-in-your-mouth and creamy - good! All of this for a mere $35! If you wish to chose your own toppings you may fill in a sheet, starting with $35 for the snowflake ice itself....each fruit / sauce / topping is an additional $3-5.

After we finished the snowflake ice (abt 20 mins), the ginger souffle ($40) arrived. Taste-wise it was spot on: strong ginger scent and flavour.

After 5 minutes of sitting on the table the middle sunk.... sadly. I was really disappointed and told one of the waitresses. She was very apologetic and sent it away, promising another one but would take 15 minutes. So we sat there looking at others' desserts and chatting whilst waiting. Later a much puffier soufflé came out:

This was quite evidently cooked thoroughly, as it did not sink! There was a crack which meant the first flat-topped one was prettier but was because it wasn't in the oven long enough. Apart from the small size, I was a happy customer.

On a late tuesday night this place was pretty full. After browsing through the extensive dessert menu which had both western and Hong Kong-style desserts, we decided on a Oreo Serradura and a Chocolate Souffle.
Oreo Serradura
was clearly frozen rather than refrigerated, since the cream layers were hard as ice cream rather than light and creamy like the real deal. The oreo bits sandwiched between the layers of hard mousse layers were no longer crunchy and were quite wet and soggy... Taste was alright but texture wise it was all wrong. We left this aside.

Green tea snowflake ice
Since we didn't want the oreo serradura after a couple bites, we ordered this instead. You may select your own toppings (fruit, sauce, other add-ons such as jelly, nata de coco etc), but we opted for the more valuable pre-set option, which included tapioca pearls, small black-eyed sago pearls, red bean and coconut jelly squares and condensed milk drizzled on top. The green tea snowflake ice was strong in green tea flavour - the bitterness of the tea was present, but the sweetness of the ice itself was enough to balance out the bitterness. The texture was almost like ice cream, only with a much lower melting point, and was much better than other places I've previously tried.

Chocolate souffle
This took quite a while to come because it is made to order. The first one they served was significantly under-cooked, noticed after a couple of bites from the top as insides were really wet. I saw other customers proceeding to enjoy their souffle from the same batch but I guess they didn't mind eating raw egg mixtures. I told one of the waitresses and she apologized and told me they'd start making a new one for me - unexpected but good service! The second one was much better, more 'puffier' than the first one as it had been in the heat for a slightly longer period. As for the taste, it reminded me very much of carnation's hot chocolate mix packets - I would prefer if they had used more cocoa powder or something to make it more strong and bitter.

I think this place is worth visiting again as there are endless options - and except for the categories of puddings e.g. serradura, I think their desserts are not bad at all. Portions are relatively small - good for after-meals.
