Although I didn't have a dinner reservation, they were not too busy, and I was seated immediately. smile

I was a little surprised at the setting of the table. A restaurant of this reputation and the prices should not have red-and-white checkered tablecloths with paper over the top, and frankly, the chairs should be of a sturdier, higher quality.

I chose Set A -- with pan-fried pate de foie gras (goose liver paste) in a port wine sauce with a prune. Quite a palate pleaser! The bread they served was a carved French baguette, but the slices of bread were too thick, in my opinion, and I really expected a better grade of butter than just served in a plastic mini-tub covered with foil.

The lobster bisque was quite tasty, with plenty of bits of lobster meat apparent.

The rib eye steak was perhaps 6-7 ounces (about 200g). It wasn't the tenderest steak I ever ate; it required a knife to cut, even though it was been pre-cut into strips before presentation at the table. It came with French fries (another disappointment, as the waitress gave me no other options for the type of potato), which are on a par with McDonald's French fries -- and that is not a criticism. The baby carrots and green beans were properly cooked -- not too mushy -- though I did add salt and pepper to them.

The dessert, however, almost made up for any disappointments -- a mini-chocolate-filled caked, served warm with a side of vanilla ice cream and small slices of a few fruits to add to the presentation. It was delicious! I would return if I could eat just that dessert.

Although my server kept good track of me, others on her team were involved in serving my soup and dessert and keeping my water glass filled. Very attentive but a bit reserved.

Recommended Dish(es):  pan-fried goose liver pate,mini-chocolate-filled cake with a scoop of vanilla ice cream

Stable perfection Smile Mar 29, 2011
Share with MessengerShare on TwitterShare on Facebook
I have been coming here since 2005. The checkered table cloths and vintage French posters on the walls really give a nice atmosphere.

The salad to start, simple lettuce, radishes and walnuts with a mysterious dressing is perfect. The few times I have tried the soup starter I have enjoyed it also. The first time I had the rib eye steak I was shocked that they serve it pre-sliced, but once I got over myself it was very tasty. Back then I still ate french fries and these were amazingly crispy and golden. Top it all off with the delectable butter sauce and you are in heaven. These days I have the delicious seasonal vegetables on the side instead.

Except for the addition of Wagyu rib eye, served unsliced smile with half vegetables half fries, the menu has stayed the same. For variety I sometimes have the salmon, which is crispy yet not overcooked.

Even the staff has stayed the same and it is great to see familiar faces. The service team is so used to working with one another and the chefs so used to the dishes that service is always efficient, no matter how full the restaurant.

In a city as obsessed with the "new" as Hong Kong it might be surprising that Entrecote has endured for so long, but Wilson has tweaked everything to perfection so it does not get old. Hong Kong would simply not be the same without Entrecote!

Good restaurant Smile Feb 09, 2010
Share with MessengerShare on TwitterShare on Facebook
On average, I visit this restaurant a couple times each year because its price is attractive when you compare food quality and atmosphere. Besides, their staffs also deliver good quality of services. 300 per head is quite worthy.

If you are looking for the best food, service and atmosphere, you should consider The Steak House in intercontinental hotel. I would give 5 stars to The Steak House. When you compare price to quality ratio, you would give W's Entrcote 5 stars.

That night, I had a late dinner with my friend. We ordered dinner set A (rib eye, medium well) and two glasses of house wine. I believed you all should familiar with its dinner sets from other comments and I don't want to waste time to introduce them again.

It is a great night me and my friend!! We are the last couple who left this restaurant.

Very Average Cries Jan 08, 2010
Share with MessengerShare on TwitterShare on Facebook
Having read some of the reviews, I decided to try the restaurant with a friend.

In my opinion, the restaurant is not value for money (>$600)

We tried both set menus - main course being rib eye steak and lamb cutlets, and found them to be average at best. The steak was thin and flavourless, Lamb was not much better. Have had MUCH better for less money.

Not much more I can say, other than that I don't believe I will be visiting this restaurant again in the near future....

It's really just mediocre  Just OK Jun 07, 2009
Share with MessengerShare on TwitterShare on Facebook
For the price we paid, it's really just mediocre...

The mushroom soup was a bit flavorless/plain.

    Escargots were not bad...

The steak lacks the favor too, tho the butter sauce was not bad..

It's all so cute with the decor at the restaurant, I just love how those waiting ladies in their little French outfit..

Then for that price and what I get, it's probably not a place I'd go back anytime soon...

I bring my parents and my daughter for dinners. They like the rib eye steak and the lamb stick. The goose liver is very nice and we all like the dessert too. We put the ice cream into the hot chocolate filled cake so it would not be too sweet. I have the hot lemon tea without sugar to go with the cake. Overall food is delicious and the manager and waiter are very nice. Timing for bring the dishes is good.

They also offer 2-hr free parking at Leighton center. Difficult to find the car entrance for the 1st time with much traffic congestion. Remember to bring the parking ticket for free parking.

Had dinner with 4 friends. Able to try various things on the menu (lamb, ribeye, salmon and veal rack). I liked the lamb and veal rack personally. All are quite happy with the various grill meat. Meat are quite juicy. Entrecote French style (thin slice) become a challege to control the doneness. Overall it is still ok to get medium.

Ordered 4 dinner sets so that we can try the soup, salad and the seafood plater. Love the lobster bisque!

We decided to pay extra for different desserts. The souffle are very good. The warm chocolate cake/ice cream is also very tasty. Great coffee.

Wine selection and price can satisfy all budgets. We just had the house wine. Overall Food vs. value are quite good.

Ambiance is nice: French music in the background with a feel of French bistro. Service is good especially for a full house the night we were there. Weekend need reservation.

Lunch with fds and I picked this restaurant. All of us ordered 炭燒肉眼扒with medium rare.

The soup was mushroom cream with herb. IT's so tasty with a lot of mushroom. And not too creamy that would make us feel very full~~~

The steak was quite soft in texture, juicy with steak taste. Side dish was served with some french fries. Very McDonald's style.

Dessert was coconut parfait. Very heavy coconut taste. And we also tried the apple cinnamon tart and orange souffle. Apple cinnmaon was very ok, sliced apple was on top and the crust was also made of baked apple. Orange souffle was special.

It's my first time to dine here. When stepped in the restaurant, some smells came to my nose, maybe it's the ventilation. I adopted it after a few minutes. Then the checkers table cloth was also a weird thing to me as it looked a bit cheap given the price of the meal...

Anyway, you would forget all about this when the food was served. The seafood platter was very good, fresh oysters and juicy shells. Lobster soup was a bit fishy and not hot enough. But the main course did retain lots of score. The rib eye was very juicy and soft, not because of the softening powder but should be the good cooking skill of the chef. Only one comment was the serving portion was a bit small that both we needed to have late snacks afterwards.

Dessert for set B was much better than set A where the mini cakes were just so-so. But the chocholate suffret from set B was just a perfect full-stop for the dinner.

    We definitely will come again.

Great sauce Smile Dec 04, 2006

The steak is great in this shop. The secret sauce is even better. I've been trying to find out how they make the sauce, but in vain. Anyway, it's nice to see that the shop can keep the standards after moved from the Time Square. The house wine is just so-so. I don't come here for a drink, so as long as the steak is good. It's fine for me.

lower your expectations Just OK Jan 05, 2006

this place came very highly rated according to this website...however, i went there recently and, surprisingly, was quite disappointed. the steak ("entrecote"), the specialty on the menu, was tasty and beefy but still managed to seem quite average (perhaps it was the thin steak, cut into strips, that detracted from the feeling of truly consuming a steak). the foie gras appetizer was too much fat and too little taste, and my companion and i found the fruit sauce slightly overpowering.

the main point i want to make is regarding your expectations. with its checkered red-and-white tablecloths (covered by unsightly pale green paper) and diner ambiance, this is more of a family restaurant than anything else. it is not a fancy french restaurant.

i forgot to mention the escargots - they were possibly the best part of the meal. slightly grainy, but very tasty and paired very well with garlic mashed potatoes and a small mushrooom for each snail.

the escargots probably best sum up w's entrecote - home-style french cooking, tasty, unpretentious but a little too "vanilla" for some tastes.
