Having a local style buffet is a must for every of our trip in HK.

This time, we picked Window Cafe of Kowloon Hotel instead of Sheraton Hotel. The quality and variety of food, dinning room's astomphere, and service are all not bad. However, the "bunny" figure and Cantonese children songs played made it to be an unpleasant dinning experience (details below).

Soup & Bread: There are 2 soups, chinese soup and cream soup, are not attractive and didn't try. Bread are not attractive too.

Cheese plate: There are 4 ~ 5 types of cheeses and 2 types of crackers. I love those cottage cheese so much!!!!Oysters: My wife got 8 raw oysters and got a tummy problem after 1 hour later. I got 4 raw oysters but nothing happen. However, their oysters are not worth to eat due to the freshness. Japanese sushi & sashimi We got raw tuna & raw salmon (yum!), fried eggs and cooked saba slices. In order to reserve room of our stomach, we didn't try any sushi or sushi rolls. Cooked meat:
- Roasted beef are not that tender (so better forget that!)
- Smoked tuna & smoked duck breast are "so-so". Cold dish:
- I'm happy to see beet and artichoke are being used in the salad bar.
- cold Japanese buckwheat noodle is a good replacement of rice in a buffet.
- I love their cheese plate so much, especially the cottage cheese mentioned above.Baked/roasted items:
- I tried the baked eggs due to its funny presentation. I may try that at home later.
- Hawaii pizza with crispy crust tastes pretty good. At least my dad finished 4 small slices.
- The roasted "pig's neck meat" taste very good but a bit greasy on the surface. Hot dish:
- Indian curry seems playing an important role in most of the hotel buffet since the last decade. I always considered that putting coconut and rasin on the curry is a wonderful way to enjoy indian curry. The masala fish tasted so great, crispy coating and smooth & juicy fish fillet inside.
- Chinese fried noodle is not that attractive and I almost gave up.
- The Cantonese chicken congee tastes quite good.Dessert:
- If you like dessert, those 2 dessert tables may make you be happy. Major items are the chocolate fountain, waffle, ice-cream, mini puffs, crepe made per order, tufo pudding, chinese sweet soup, cakes, pudding, ... etc.
- The mango napoleon is a "must" dessert!
- Don't miss the freshly made souffle. Remember to take picture ASAP once you got that from the chef. It's because it go down within a minute or two. Summary:
In terms of variety, quality, services, dinning room setting, and the price, I recommend this Window Cafe for all of you.

I came here with a big group (more than 20 people) and although we didn't get a long table next to the windows to maximize the view, we were seated in a not so busy section which was great since we were a big group and were pretty noisy and boisterous.

The food selection for appetizers, mains and dessert were fairly expansive - there was a plethora of Chinese, Japanese, Western and Middle-Eastern dishes which more than satisfied everyone in our group albeit there were only a handful of sashimi choices and some of the dishes took awhile to be refilled/replaced.The oysters were just okay, not exceptionally memorable.What I really loved was the Couscous salad - the taste, the texture, even the smell was just perfect.Although the saffron rice looked very appetizing, it was lacking in zing. The sesame pork ribs were absolutely delicious though.You usually can't go wrong with crêpes but the one I has at the Window Cafe was kind of like the saffron rice - it looked appetizing but was lacking in taste.Does this place give you value for your money? Yes, it does, if only for quantity.

It's my first time to visit this restaurant and had buffet dinner in Window Cafe. Though some friends recommend this place but somehow it was worse than my expectation.

Food variety
Satisfactory with a reasonable coverage of food such as Japs, seafood, Indian and Chinese dishes.

i. Japs - the choices of sushi and sasimi were a bit few and the quality is not that good.

ii. Seafood

- Oysters, as mentioned in other comments, were come with a quota system. Everybody can only get 2 pieces each time and people always queue up in front of the oyster counter. Oysters supplied at latter time are less fresh and smaller in size, not that clean also...

- Crab leg supply is not that sufficient and people queued up again. It was not that freash and heavily frozen.

iii. Indian - a bit spicy but quite good, especially the lamb

iv. Grill beef - cold and dry, cannot raise appetite

v. Goose liver - excellent provided that it is not left on the buffet bar too long and still hot

vi. Dessert

An excellent area with many varieties -
- chocolate fountain: fancy
- crepe: real time preparation, good!
- iced special drink by self preparation
- bean curd (very smooth texture!)
- sweet bean soup
- pudding: mango favor is good but mango is a bit small
- chocolate cake: excellent
- tiramisu: ok
- waffet: it'd better make real time, it's cold
- mango napolean: good!
- 梳乎里: excellent

Table reservation:
I made a very advance booking and reserved a table next to the window. However, the height of the floor is quite low and therefore the environment is very very noisy! May be it's also summer time and many families bring along with kids and teenages.

Food replenishment
Also the replenishment of dishes such as oysters and crab legs are slow which makes people queuing, and often "competes" for food. It's not something acceptable in a high class hotel.

Price promotion:

It probably works well with open rice 20% discount (not applicable on 10% service charge), compass visa 15% discount, and 5 for 4 (effectively 20% off).

Total spending: HKD 1795 for 5 people.

Car park: too few parking spaces in the hotel

The dislike: environment and other diners, services

The price promotion downgrades the whole dining environment and experience, attracts too many people, some rushing for food due to lack of supply in certain dishes! Unacceptable...When I left, some impolite people in the lift tried to block it and bumped my senior mum and pregnant wife out. I don't know whether they are mainlanders or HK'ers but these are not something expected in a high class hotel. I'd never seen this in Marriot, Conrad, Shangrila or even Hyatt.

People run and bump into others when they compete for food! But the waiters did not do much to stop them.

Ending word:
I believe the dining experience would be much better by spending around a hundred more per head elsewhere. Most of the food can be found in other hotels as well.

I went there with my parents. The environment was very good. I requested to sit by the window during booking and thus we could enjoy the view.

For the food, there were a great variety of choices. Though my parents are nearly 80, they also enjoyed the dessert bar.

For the seafood court, I think each guest could get 2 oysters at one time was a reasonable treatment as this could reduce the over-exposure of oyster in air and keep their freshness. All the oysters were fat and large, delicious!!

There were other surprises too. Eg. the congee counter, there were numerous components waiting for you to mix and match. The South Asia court also has some delicious food, mainly the curry and the bread. I think the cheese court was very interesting as it provided us with several types of cheeses to eat with biscuits.

The waiters/waitresses were all very polite and helpful. We all enjoyed this buffet very much and may try its dinner buffet later.

i brought a surprised mood when i came here.but made me disappointed.
all those food were not special. just one thing that i loved is 小籠包.
and 燒賣.salmon was ok. that one meal was bad impression.
but so cheap of this late night buffect.also worth the price.

Ron Kurtus said that, "The quality of the food and service is defined as meeting or exceeding the expectations of the customer. The benefit of quality food and service is that customers will come back and will recommend the restaurant to friends." If a hotel's restaurant can not provide the quality food and service, I will not come back again.
I have dinner buffet in The Window Cafe several days ago that my birthday. But the food just ordinary and the price has little expensive. This price should be have more food choice, but it is not. I want to taste the Queen Crab, but it is not offer on dinner buffet. I felt disappointed with that. Special the rice noodles, I can not taste any salt flavour. However, the chicken skewer taste good. I like this dish.
The Service could be accept. However, there has too much noises . May be majority of mainland FIT. A hotel should be has a quiet environment for customers to enjoy their food. I think this restaurant should be get improvement on environment.

When checking out the buffet here - they had a wagyu steak theme going on for $428 on the weekend. Unfortunately, Feb was short and when I made a booking for the next Saturday - little did I know that they will switch the theme from Wagyu Beef to Mediterranean Seafood.

Note that by booking online, you can get 1 free drink.

Anyway, I have to say that the normal food served here are infact not bad, certainly one of the best buffets in HK, after checking out most restaurants. The Peking Duck is good, so were the Char Sius. Oysters were a bit unfresh however, they were not transported properly and overly soft and not cold.

Sweets here are quite good, with a varieties from Crepes to H.D. ice creams to fried ice creams, etc.

The problem I had on this particular visits? The Seafood schemed food were extremely bad - it was all about prawns literally - not to mention that normally, even without the seafood scheme, the other side of the counter always had plenty of seafood anyway. It was getting overly repetitive, without a piece of Wagyu beef in sight (which I booked and came here for!)

This particular visit was unsatisfactory for the price, even if some food quality was good, but ultimately too limited in choices and expensive. Although if they brought back the last Wagyu theme, I think it would be much better.

well, window cafe is a great example of why i had a bias against buffet.

At buffet, they offered all kinds of food but could not focus to make anything good. 70% of the food are there for the sake of having it available.

in general the chinese food are better prepared than other things

let me start with the oyster. they are all bad. They are fresh but no flavor at all. The sashimi too was not good quality fish. i guess the fishes are fresh enough but just poor quality.

The salad bar offered enough to let you make a good salad. i enjoyed their pine nuts, but not rosted.

The chinese bbq stuff were good. i like the duck station. I did not have the stomach to try everythign and most of the cooked food being warmed. they even have steam fish.

the meal come with a FAKE abalone, it was horrible. it was served one to each guest like it's so exclusive. I hope window cafe is trying to accomdate to the vegetarian due to the large amount of marginally meat dish available. May be i should seriously consider to be a vegetarian after tasting window cafe's meat dishes. no offense intended to the vegetarian of course.

the wait staff was not professional thou they almost always gets our dirty plate. we asked for some hot water and it did not come until half way into the meal.

all the cheese and cold cuts were horrible like it's brought at a special from your local chain supermarket.

the deserts were all horrible except for some tarts. the fruits and creme in it were good the shell was store brought and too hard.

the rest of the deserts looks good but taste bad. i did not try the chinese sweet soup. it's prob the best desert out there. they have a bunch of cakes. they did not portioned it and it's all butchered by fellow guest at the resturant. the choco fountain was a horror show. i am sure numerous things were unintentionally dropped in it by others during the course of my dinner.

fresh fruit was fresh but not of good quality. they were not tasty and poorly cutted, not to mention the very very limited selection.
