This is likely the only Indian restaurant in an otherwise modestly busy side neighborhood dotted primarily with Thai restaurants. Based upon all the great reviews, we decided to check it out and journeyed from Central up here via the 101 bus. It's a small place, dark and likely a few years past it's prime and definitely in need of a renovation. We wandered nearly to the kitchen before the 2 wait staff recognized us to be seated. It would seem this is a popular place where groups do indeed book tables and most of our visit the staff was busy moving tables around. In this small a restaurant it quickly got to be a McDonald's experience (not good). The clientele is mostly local HK'ers and likely those from the neighborhood. We received some papadums that had clearly been over cooked, the sauces arrived a few minutes later for some reason and only after we asked. We ordered a traditional masala papadum which is basically a papadum with an assortment of spices and condiment a toppings (looking a little like a pizza). It was decent but nothing special. We ordered two mains and a plain naan bread. The first main was an okra (also known as Bhindi) masala. Nicely presented and a decent quantity for sharing, well flavored and hot, I wouldn't deem it best in class, but still acceptable. Next out was a vegetarian curry and it had similar attributes, decent but not great or exceptional. The naan was freshly made and hot. The biggest negative was the tight space and seeming popularity is likely to make for a chaotic dining experience (only 3 tables were occupied while we were there but the staff was already frustrated). They seated a family temporarily at a nearby table and loudly informed them that we were leaving soon and to wait. Clearly a push to get us out. We got out and aren't likely to return. Sorry, this restaurant isn't deserving of the seemingly good Openrice rating it has. There are much better choices in TST and closer (Tandoori Nights for example). Table Wait Time: 0 minute(s)

The family (Non-member) | My family of 5 had a dinner at this Indian Restaurant. I heard of some good references before we came here. My husband loved Tandoori Chicken and the dish was of perfect taste. We tried plain Nan & cheese Nan, both were served hot and fresh. The 'entre' of steamed dumpling was very much like Chinese dumpling though the sauce coming with it was very Indian like. The curry puff was delicious too. Overall we were very pleased with the food because they were all served hot and fresh. The service was very good too. It was a small restaurant with only 10 tables therefore booking on weekends are required. We certainly will come back again. Recommended Dish(es):

We were walking around Kowloon City in order to try a new Thai restaurant (other than just Cambo - which is very good by the way). We couldn't make up our minds even after walking through all the main streets. We spotted this interesting looking Indian restaurant and immediately decided to check it on OpenRice. 65 The setting was typical of small homey type of Indian restaurants. Simple decoration mainly in blue and quite a lot of small tables. The rattan chairs were a bit old but quite comfy.
Bar area
The menu was pretty comprehensive. It's in English and Chinese and filled with photographs of the dishes, which was extremely helpful. We were served with Poppadoms first. Poppadoms are standard appetizers in any Indian restaurant. One for each customer with three different types of sauces. Mint, Tamarind and Chilli. Also standard and authentic. It took my wife quite a while to go through the Menu (Indian cuisines are not too well known in Japan). So my wife ordered a Lassi, a typical yogurt drink from India, and I ordered a Kingfisher beer first. Believe it or not, Kingfisher is really an original beer brewed in India since the end of the 19th century.
Poppadoms
Mild prawn curry; Spinach puree with cheese; Lamb Vindaloo; and one Butter Naan and one Garlic Naan to go with the curries. We also ordered a bottle of red wine ($270) - Beaujolais, which usually goes well with curries and meat.
The Spinach puree with cheese also tasted authentic and healthy even. It's authentic Indian but you won't find a direct comparison in Chinese cuisines so those who are not used to Indian cuisine may find the texture strange. Anyway, it's good stuff. The cheese was also interesting. I can't put my finger on what type of cheese it was. Probably goat cheese but don't worry, it doesn't taste as strong as normal blue cheese. It's dry inside. In fact, the cheese doesn't taste much but was quite filling. Also recommended. The Mild prawn curry were, well, mild, as well as creamy and delicious. The prawns were quite firm and fresh. My wife liked it a lot. This is recommended. The Lamb Vindaloo, the red dish in the photo, was really pretty hot. The chilli taste stays in your mouth for at least 15 minutes. The boss asked whether everything was OK at this juncture and I told him everything was great, while wiping the sweat off my forehead! Both Naan breads were very delicious. It seemed pretty freshly made and were quite aromatic. Always an excellent companion to curries. This came at the very end and was quite a surprise:
The service was very good. Everyone was friendly and polite as well as efficient. Reasonable price - similar to the restaurants in Chung King Mansion. Recommended. P.S. A table was reserved for 4 persons at 7:30. Since the customers did not show up, the boss finally phoned the customer at about 7:40 p.m. and politely reminded him/her of the booking and to see whether they would attend. The boss apparently repeated what he was told on the phone, "...You attended yesterday already?" He did not curse under his breath or shout at any staff (at least not in front of customers). Imagine what would happen if this happened in a Chinese restaurant? Cultural differences? Recommended Dish(es):

mycarolcheung (Non-member) | Viewed the open rice review before checking out this restaurant, and I was not disappointed at all. I arrived on Friday around noon time and the restaurant was not crowded at all. I chose a 4-person table and ordered the a set lunch of curry fish with naan. The portion is not huge but the dish is very authentic and the curry tasted excellent. The naan was freshed prepared and just the best naan I have had among all Indian restaurants in HK. The Indian waiter was very nice and served well too, though I was alone and sat for quite a while to read a magazine after finishing my lunch. Overall speaking, this $35 set lunch is good. Will definitely come again. Recommended Dish(es):

First time reviewer here. Last night my fiancee and I felt like eating Indian food, so we went on Openrice to look for a place in Kowloon. Lo and behold, the first restaurant that pops up is: "Indian Restaurant". I don't know if it was a lack of creativity or sheer brilliance- but a name like that is perfect advertising for what you are serving. Anyhow, we walked there from her school and found the little restaurant tucked away in Kowloon City. Decor, as others have mentioned, is standard. It's not run down like other places I would expect in Kowloon City, but make no mistake, it's not fine dining. The seating was a bit tight, but the restaurant was not packed yet (6:00-8:00) on a Friday night, so we sat and talked quite comfortably. The server(s) were pretty nice. We didn't have to wait, and we were seated promptly. I thought he could have explained a bit more about the dishes and the recommendations, but we lucked out and ordered well. So I guess if the food had come out horribly, then this review would be a different story. The food was really good. The only other Indian place we've gone to here in HK is Tandoori Nights (Gaylord Restaurant) and I would say the food here at Indian Restaurant is better and has a better price point. The first appy they serve is this Salsa Cracker. It was similar to the one we ate at Tandoori Nights. Nothing spectacular, but then again, I don't particularly prefer this dish myself. By the way, beware of the dark maroonish salsa. It's powerful and has a KICK. Don't put too much on your cracker!
We ordered a salad, and that came. It was refreshing to munch on, but again, nothing excellent. It's much like a Greek Salad, but without the Feta and Balsamic Dressing. It's got some kick to it, and I found the raw onions to be a bit too overpowering. But it was a good complement to have throughout the rest of the spicy meal.
Then our Lamb Chops came! Oh! Sooo good. The plate came out sizzling and our server squeezed some fresh lemon juice over the hotplate which added such a wonderful flavor to the already wonderfully marinated chops. The blend of spices was great. I really liked how the chops were tender and soft, but also still had some chew. I like lamb and even the musky taste, but you couldn't really taste it in this dish. I would heartily recommend this as an entree.
We also ordered a Butter Chicken, since my fiancee was craving for it. This place had it down! The chicken in this dish seemed to be grilled first (I'm not sure) because it was so juicy and even a little crunchy. The sauce was done well, with the expected sweet tones coupled with the slightly acidic taste from the ginger and tomato. But it had some heat to it. Overall very creamy and pungent. Very delicious! Oh, the nan with it was also very good. Not the flakiest we've had, but it wasn't greasy either, so I liked it.
We also ordered a coconut to drink. We lingered at the restaurant for a while, and the owner didn't seem to mind. There weren't customers outside waiting, so we took our time. At the end, our bill came out to be 215. A very reasonable price for such great food, I felt. We paid over 300 at the other Indian Restaurant last time, so this was a good deal. Before we left, the owner gave us a VIP card that gives us 15% off every visit hereafter. I was already planning to go back, but now I guess I will more often. Even if it's a bit of a walk away! We have ordered the set dinner. We like the bbq chicken most, it is very juicy! The butter nan is wonderful too! It is better than the garlic one. Curry mutton(medium spicy) is also our choice, yammy! However, the skin of the sarmosa is a bit hard. By the way, the waiter is gentle and the service is pretty good. Anyway, we like this restaurant very much. We will visit it again. Recommended Dish(es):

The decor of this restaurant was understated and the atmosphere was like your typical Indian restaurant: dim lighting with light music playing in the background, but the food was delicious. Except the chicken vindaloo which came a tad on the watery side and the complimentary papadom with chutney tray which was quite mediocre, the sheek kebab (minced lamb blended with corriander, fresh herbs and onions made like a sausage on a skewer, barbecued and served on a sizzler), chicken tikka masala and plain nann bread tasted superb and all went down very well. Service was good and they gave us a VIP card at the end. Other Ratings: Taste 4 | Environment 3 | Service 4 | Hygiene 3 | Value for Money 4

I went there twice within one week and was really impressed with their food. Their naan bread is the best I've tried so far. Their chicken takka is good too - tender and juicy - a must-go place for indian food lovers. The service is good and the food is value for money. Their chef should be praised! Recommended Dish(es):
