The waiting area was super-crowded and hectic. Even though we had reserved, we still had to wait quite a bit. The Lou-flavored duck was just ordinary. The vegetable in fish soup was quite delicious. We ordered the sticky rice wrapped in intestine, which seemed to be a special dish there. Disappointingly, it just taste like very ordinary sticky rice. Nothing to write home about, but it wasn't too expensive either.

    豬肚湯

This soup was strongly flavoured with pepper and there were generous amounts of 豬肚 and酸菜.

    蠔餅

Though there was still quite a lot of excess batter, there was still quite a decent amount of oysters and was better than most I’ve tried.

    炭燒梅子烏頭

This was probably my favourite dish of the night. I loved the plum sauce, and the fish itself surprised me by having a very smooth and soft texture.

    墨魚餅拼蝦棗

I felt that these items were pretty unique. They were soft in texture, rather than the usual ‘bouncy’ texture of squid/fish balls. To me, this somehow made them more natural and gave them a home-made quality, which I liked. I guess it depends whether you prefer the bouncy texture or not. Personally, I was happy to try this different style.

    脆皮糯米釀大腸

This was also nicely done. The intestines were thin and crispy, without excess oil or fat, and the glutinous rice inside was chewy and enhanced with peanuts.

    蟹粥

This was slightly disappointing since the taste of crab was weak, and the pieces of crab themselves hardly had any meat/ roe. I think perhaps chiu-chou style congee is not so appropriate for crab congee.

    芋泥

Being an ube/taro fan, I really liked this dessert. It was not overly sweet and had a great thick texture that coats the inside of your mouth with a velvety smoothness.

    咸檸7

This is also worth mentioning – though it’s a commonplace drink and can be easily made, the large size of the salted lime was memorable and its quality was evidently good. Huge jars of these pickled limes can be bought.

Overall, an impressive chiu chou eatery that is very reasonably priced. Too bad it’s not in a very convenient location.

Worst Service Ever  Feb 01, 2008
Share with MessengerShare on TwitterShare on Facebook
We had over 13 people and they gave the table only could fit 10. This is first. Then, when we take our order, the waiter will suggest us the most expensive dishes in the restaurant and this is very rediculous and the good tastes were awlful.
When we finish our dinner and chat, one of the mid-age waitress ask us to pay before we even said check out. The reason she gave us was her boss was forcing her to rush the customer so they could resell the table.
After this time, I will never go this place again or even suggest anyone of my friends to go. The price is low, but bad service and tastless food.

Not deserve to wait. Cries Aug 08, 2003

The food is only so-so. Not deserve to wait for half an hour.
The price is high for its class. Also, don't expect any good service from them.
The only reason to say it is good is because Western District do not have good restaurant. (at least I couldn't find one)
