    DEFINITELY WORTH IT!  Smile Feb 13, 2012

    I've heard lots of good reviews about this place, so I've been wanting to try for a long time now! I'm so glad I did!!!

    We made a reservation for 8:00PM. Over the phone, they told us that even though we have a reservation, we would probably still have to wait. We had nothing better to do, so we decided to just wait. We got there a little earlier, and they seated us at 8:00 on the dot!

    The first thing I noticed about the restaurant environment is the spacing. I like the big spaces between tables. It doesn't give you a claustrophobic feeling of being too close to your neighbors.

    Menu looked great and I wanted to order everything! However, there was only just two of us so we had to limit ourselves. We ended up going for the Winter melon and Conpoy (冬瓜瑤柱湯) soup base, Japanese assorted vegetables, Udon, Cuttlefish, and Lamb. In addition, we ordered the sugar cane juice.

    Everything came out quite efficiently. The vegetable basket was full of delicious fresh vegetables. I'm a person who really enjoys my meats during a good hotpot, but yet I was very impressed by the freshness of the cabbages and enoki straw mushrooms! My friend and I really enjoyed this meal and could not stop complimenting the quality and freshness of the food and drinks!!

    AND we were pleasantly surprised that they offered a complimentary dessert. We were thoroughly impressed by the food and service here! I know I will definitely be back here soon! smile

    Loud Bells Smile Jun 13, 2011

    Brother in law wanted to go somewhere for hot pot where you could sit comfortably and the place isn't too noisy. So I booked Budaoweng. Although it isn't the best hotpot restaurant I have been to in terms of the food but the ambience and space is the best for meeting friends and chatting.

    I was responsible to order. My favourite dishes here are the loud bells and the vegetable basket. I forgot to take a photo of the mixed vegetable basket and am kicking myself. The basket has several different types of vegetables arranged standing up in a basket. Like a flower arrangement of green.

    For us, beef is always the star of the show. The beef here was nicely marbled, sliced to the right thickness, we had a repeat order. Everyone loves the different types of balls and the mixed plate has octopus, prawn, pork and beef. These were firm and fresh and I think made by the restaurant rather than bought from outside sources. We also ordered a plate of fresh prawns on sticks which were quite big and very sweet. The shui kao dumplings had huge prawns inside and again we had to repeat the order. Our group were not too adventurous on different types of food but rather we repeated on the dishes we ordered.

    For those who have never had loud bells before, they are sheets of bean curd rolled up and deep fried. They were hot when they arrived and they could either be eaten without boiling dipped into a sweet and sour sauce or they can be dunked into the hot pot for a few seconds to soften. I like both ways, one is crispy and the other soaks up the tasty soup and they taste completely different.

    BIL and our friends were here for the first time and very happy with the dinner.

    Clean Hot Pot Smile Jan 09, 2011

    Our Hot Pot!
    Our Hot Pot!

    I've been to Budaoweng Hotpot several times because the place is clean, the food is good and the design is quite chic and spacious. When I made a phone reservation for 4 people, I was told that for dinner reservations, I could either book at 6:30pm or 8:30pm. I booked a table for 8:30pm but we still ended up having to wait for 20mins sad

    After finally getting our reserved table, we were ushered to the back area where they have open rooms for smaller groups. The open door rooms gave us more privacy but it was harder to get the attention of waiters/waitresses. Nevertheless, we had a very attentive waitress who was very funny and polite, and she got excited when we decided to order beer tongue

    We ordered the following:

    * Chicken Soup in Huadiao Rice Wine (Soup Base)
    * Beef Cubes
    * Local Sliced Beef
    * Chinese Lettuce
    * Deep Fried Tofu Sheets
    * Mushroom Balls
    * Golden Mushroom
    * Mountain Water Tofu
    * Chinese Fish Bone & Brisket
    * Cocktail Sausages
    * Shrimp Dumplings
    Yum!

    Overall, the food was delicious, we were very full, and the bill came out to be $310 per person, including beer. Special mention goes to the Deep Fried Tofu sheets which you can dip in sweet and sour sauce. Yum! lol

    If you don't mind waiting, then I think this is a nice venue to have hotpot and to eat with friends.

    Super bad service  Dec 16, 2010
    Share with MessengerShare on TwitterShare on Facebook
    We had made reservation at 8 pm on Wed night (for 6 ppl). 2 of us arrived at 8:05 pm and told the reception about our reservation. She just said ok. We waited about 15 minutes and checked. She said table was not ready yet. Another 15 minutes went by, we checked...the answer was there was a table for 5 ppl but since we had 6 we had to wait a little while. By 8:45 pm we were still waiting for our table...without any apology or any info as to when we would be seated. And please remember we did have a reservation. We finally walked to another restaurant on the same floor. We had dinner at 9 which supposed to be at 8!! You be the judge......huffy

    Rude Service  Nov 09, 2010
    Share with MessengerShare on TwitterShare on Facebook
    Very disappoinhted. Rude Service! We celebrate our nephew's birthday this evening. All the waiters and waitress were very rude. I felt that they are in a hurry cleaning up the table, so that they could get off. At the end of the dinner, one of the waiter was so rush to clean up the table, he spilt some of the soy sauce all over my dad's pants. My poor dad was so embrassed because he still have to wear the pair of dirty pants and walked home. We tried to complained to the supervisor, his attitude was even worse. I just came to visit my family from California, U. S. and I had never imgained that this restaurant that was in the tourist center has such terrible service. It is an ashamed to the Hong Kong restaurant business. I will never come back to this restaurant. I will tell all my friends not to eat at your restaurant too. I don't want to give my friends have an impression that the Hong Kong restaurants have such poor service. If I were the owner and I will definitely take it serious.

    first time visiting this rest; actually seldom come to times square as it's so crowded.
    we planned of visiting the thai rest, however it's a queue there already so we tried this one.

    mixed soup base: 冬蔭弓 & 瑤柱清湯. the 冬蔭弓 was good! sour and spicy. actually i didn't need the mixed seasoning (could i pay $15 less if i didn't "play" with them?). we drank the soup smile

    肥牛片 & 黑豚肉片: we didn't order much meat, just a plate of beef and a plate of pork. both were very very good! tender and tasteful.

    the rest were tofu, veggie, etc, so-so, common things you expect of hot pot elsewhere.

    services were not that bad. however, they did try to clean up your table as quick as they could. nevertheless, we stayed till almost 11pm~

    I am the first time write comment on web. This restaurant is so worst that motivate me to say something here. Same situation as the previous comment from other "離譜的是有一位更未問已一手收起我們的筷子, 當時桌上雖已沒生料, 但鍋中還有食物" , We just asked them to switch off the hotpot, then they didn't say anything and then they instantly put the chopsticks to the hotpot such that you can not stop his action. From the comment here, I found they did not serve us with dessert also.

    VERY VERY WORST !!!!
