Went to the restaurant for dinner with a friend this week. It was a work day and we went there arond 8pm, the restaurant was half packed. We were told to wait at the entrance as they were cleaning a small table for us. So we took a seat and noticed the cooking pan had a large crack on one empty table which didnt give us a good impression already.

We waited for a few mins and our small table was ready. So my friend and I took the seats and started to read the menu. A while later, the waiter brought over the cooking pan and instantly there was a STRONG 鐵鏽味!!! It wasnt pleasant at all but we neglected it and went on with our food order. We ordered two plates of beef and one plate of pork chop, one bim bim bum and one tofu kim chi soup with minced pork.

While we were waiting for the food, we looked around and we were literally disgusted by the table next to us! No offence but I think the woman on the next table had eating disorder! She basically spitted everything out on her plate and piled everything up on different plates on the table. She also took off her shoes and put her foot on her chair while she ate! Her friends did the same but NONE of the waiters bothered coming to their table to give them a new plate and cleaned their table. It just looked ultra nauseating to see people around you eat like this because you would start to wonder if you're eating in a kennel whilst you pay for this type of B.S. type of dining environment and atmosphere?!

I know this is just an average restaurant and guests should expect an ordinary dining experience, rather than being difficult and picky but if you were there that night, you would be so turned off by the service there as well. The whole restaurant has almost 15 tables. During peak hours, around 8.30pm that night, its full house and they requested guests to share tables with other guests- this is such an uncommon practice at a Korean restaurant already, despite this, they ONLY had 2 waiters serving guests during peak hours?! They also got all the food order mixed up at other tables and guests had to walk through them their food order again?!

Anyways, enough complaints about the restaurant and the service. So when the food came, my friend and I tasted it.. and within my expectation, it was terrible! Its so obvious that the meat that they use are all FROZEN CHEAP MEAT! None of the meat that we ordered were fresh as it didnt have the meat taste. All we could taste was the korean grilled meat sauce taste, thats it. The beef was so tough that I couldnt even chew it! The bim bim bump was so-so and the kim chi tofu soup with minced pork wasnt even the traditional dish that you would get at a Korean restaurant. It just seemed to me that they chucked a lot of spicy kim chi and boiled it with tofu and some meat! Ridiculous!

Overall, a terrible restaurant with very low quality food.

The set dinners are a really good value. Cost: $200+ set dinner for 2p +10% Service Charge

the food was good, chicken, fish, beef, lamb with 2 rice and 6 side dishes.e.g. 芽菜..kimchi..豆蔔...

also ordered koren sake, not that strong, but it's a bit too much for 2 ppl to share the whole set. maybe we are not that greedy, hahaha

The set dinners are a really good value. We ordered daeji kalbi and sam gyup sal, and just one portion of the daeji kalbi was enough for my boyfriend and I to eat. Lots of deliciously marinated meat!! And the value was good too, the set meals come with soup, rice, side dishes and dessert (which was basically just some orange slices). Side dishes were yummy (standards though...kimchee and other pickled veggies like spinach and bean sprouts), soup was a clear broth with some turnip pieces in it (good to wash down after eating really tasty meats with lots of hot sauce), and the rice was...just a bowl of HK rice. The latter is my only slight gripe because it was typical HK rice and not the slightly stickier type of authentic Korean rice. I lived in Seoul for 2 years, so to eat all the delicious korean bbq meats with the drier and grainier Chinese rice was a bit meh. Not a huge detriment, but slightly diminishes my enjoyment of the meal. Additionally, if you go at peak hours (for me, it's always saturday night dinner), the service may be lacking because they only have 3 waiters (including the owner) serving a full house.

The owner though is really attentive (when he's not running around serving others), and he always opens the door for you as you exit and personally thanks you and says goodbye. It's a nice touch.

I'll definitely go back when I'm craving meat and a hearty meal!!

This is one of the most pleasurable lunches i have ever had in my life.

Food

Delectable!!!!! We had:

(1) Rice in Stone Bowl ($45/set lunch)- Wonderful. I am particularly impressed with excellent service - the waiter actually mixed the rice for us and served it into our bowl. Never had such kind of service for a merely 45 set lunch!

(2) Mackerel with rice ($45/set lunch)- Shocked with the sumptuous quantity! We were given 6 pieces of mackerel (each with the size of a palm). The boss explained to us that the mackerel came from japan and indeed, they were fresh and juicy. In terms of the quality and quantity, this mackerel set was waaaaaaaay better than any other so-called "posh and classy" Japanese restaurants in Central and Admiralty which may easily cost you $280 for the same, if not smaller, mackerel set lunch.

N.B. The 45 quid worth of set lunch also came with 6 same plates of the traditional Korean appetizers, one glass of chrysanthemum tea and a jelly pudding as dessert.

Service
Superb! People were really nice to us and when i mentioned I like eating kimchi, without the slightest hesitation, the boss offered us an extra plate of kimchi for FREE!

Cost: $45/set lunch +10% Service Charge
Total: $99 for 2 but we gave them $10 tips because of the amazing luncheon experience!

PS: Dear Boss, if you are reading this, keep up the excellent services and food. I will DEFINITELY come here again and again and again in the near future!

PPS: I would LOVE to give you FULL MARKS for this restaurant but i understand openrice doesn't allow people to give full marks for every item.
