I think their food is very good . I visit there 3 times a week and basically, you can see many westerners that are their frequent customers. Their environment are very comfortables. Good for eating with friends.
Food are all very good. I recommend you order their Mussels,Calamari Fritti, Antipesto and nice salad with strong favoured which is really very good to start off.
For main dish, some of my recommendations are : A huge sized Rib eye Steak : juicy, tender and nicely, cooked grilled as requested: Meduim rare., Seabass,Salmon Steak,Prawn & squids ink Linguine, Penne Vodka, Cappellini Porcini Fungi, Chicken Fajitas and Pizza.
For dessert ,I will go for their chocolate fondand with ice cream. If you go there Lunch (before 3 Pm). They've got these good value set at around HK $89.Great value for money. You could try out their Lunch to see if you like it. I think they are one of Best restaurant in soho.
overall, I belive Brivo is one of Soho's most excellent restaurant. The good thing is they have got really nice Staff.

It's has been a long time since I have been there, and I finally decide to write a review about this restaurant! Don't ever go there for steak or you will regret!

I ordered a steak and didn't have to wait for a long time. However I was actually impressed that they can screw up steak - I mean it's really hard to make steak taste that aweful! I order medium rare and it turn out to be well done! And I only had a few bite as it's like chewing gum that I couldn't swallow I swear it's that bad!huffy

When the waiter came over to ask me how was the food, I was quite unhappy with the food and I sad the steak taste bad. The waiter asked me me whether I want another steak. But trust me this is just terrible and I don't want to waste my time trying a second steak!! So I said no. I was surprised they waiter didn't say anything and didn't ask me what's wrong with the steak! They just don't care about their customer!

So I left the restaurant being half hungry.

I have never and will never go back to this restaurant anymore. P.S. This is the worst restaurant around SOHO!

    Seriously! Cries Jan 13, 2012
Share with MessengerShare on TwitterShare on Facebook
Ok ... Tripadvisor users ... You can't be serious ... No 14 in terms of rating out of 3,000 .... Caesar salad with Cajun chicken ... Chicken was dry and tasteless, bacon hard and burnt, Parmesan cheese of a Fiat re tread ... Admit the dressing was ok.Pizza tasted like one of those frozen pizzas. Mozzarella was awful - tasted like anchovies but there were no anchovies. Tasted chemical like. The scallop and prawn capellini with lobster sauce was equally awful. Almost porridge like. Ingredients were terrible ... Just terrible. Honestly ... The worst I have ever had.Believe me .... Give this one a big big miss.

Good place to have a small group dinner. The restaurant wasn't too busy so we had a lot of space and didn't feel the need to be louder than necessary to talk across the table. Would definitely recommend and visit again for a group type of dinner.

    Service: smile
The good - Brought out the appetizers first and very quickly. Brought most of the main dishes at the same time so everyone could start together.
The bad - A few times they couldn't hear a friend trying to get their attention even though it wasn't busy nor loud.

    Food: smile
    chopstick Appetizers
Calamari was ok, but the batter didn't have much taste. Came with a creamy tarter sauce and a tiny tangy salad on the plate.
Buffalo chicken wings were yummy and blue cheese dressing was nice. Too bad I only had one.
Caesar Salad looked nice, but I didn't get to try it.

    chopstick Main Course
The Ravioli that I got was nice, but nothing memorable. The portion size was good, but our table ordered a lot of pasta dishes and compared to theirs, it was on the smaller size (thankfully). If you want big portion sizes, this is a great place to go. I also tried the Spaghetti Carbonara and a Pizza with sour cream and sweet thai chilli sauce. The spaghetti carbonara was a bit heavy, but I guess that's normal. The pizza isn't something I would normally order and I didn't particularly like it. I like traditional pizzas for the most part.

The pasta dishes that looked really good, but I didn't get a chance to try, were the Spaghetti Marinara and the Fettuccine.

Overall, I didn't find the food particularly special, but it wasn't bad by any means. I wouldn't order certain things there again, but I think for a group setting (on a weekday), it was great. I think each person had to pay about HKD260, but we paid for the birthday guest. You could probably get away with spending less than HKD200 for dinner as well.

A cheap and cozy dinner Smile Jun 12, 2011
Share with MessengerShare on TwitterShare on Facebook
The best thing about this restaurant is that its affordable!

With mains under HKD200 and 3 course dinner sets at HKD250 - this is actually a place you can visit on a regular basis without breaking the bank. Brivo is fairly new and is still a hidden gem. I'm pretty sure that they'll hike their prices up once they gain momentum so be sure to try out their cheap dinner sets before they increase their price!

Tortilla salad + chicken - You can eat this as a main/a shared starter given the huge portion. The tortilla was crunchy and served as a good contrast to the salad.Norwegian Salmon - Best salmon I've had in a long time. Cripsy skin with the outer portion of the salmon cooked whilst leaving the inner portion raw. Props go to the chef for the potato side which was a potato trio. The trio consisted of a crisp on top of a scoop of mashed potato placed on top of a baked potato skin. The crisp was soggy by the time I decided to try it but I think that was more for completeness and decoration than consumption. The mashed potato with the pesto sauce was delicious and the baked potato skin was also good. Goat cheese and parma ham risotto - The risotto rice was soft without being mushy - a hard feat indeed. The goat cheese taste can be a little strong for some unless you know you enjoy goat cheese. The first couple of bites of this is heavenly but by the 3rd or 4th bite you realise that you'll never finish the dish because its so creamy and heavy. The portion of risotto is very generous and should be shared amongst 2 to 3 people.

dinner gathering Smile Feb 25, 2011
Share with MessengerShare on TwitterShare on Facebook
Just a quick review on the food here. Without one of my friends' strong recommendation for this restaurant, I would not have given it a try given the ambiguity of the bistro from the outside - to me, all restaurants along the Elgrin's and Sauton's can only be classified as either 'Chinese' or 'non-Chinese', or more specifically as 'restaurants-with-bars' and 'bars'. There is a lack of distinctiveness among these restaurants which cluster along one of the busiest and yet most typical and stereotyped street in Soho.

Yet there we were, in a group of four, for a dinner gathering. We planned to have drinks after the meal so we decided to have a light meal. We settled with calamari frutti as the appetizer, and we had two mains - smoked salmon and spinach risotto and a half-n-half pizza with Louisiana and Vegetarian Deluxe.
    The extra-fluffy bread basket
    The extra-fluffy bread basket

The waiter then served us with a bread basket after placing the order. It was sadly of room temperature instead of kept warm somewhere, but i really liked the fluffy texture of the bread - it tasted heavenly after absorbing a bit of olive oil and vinegar mixture. Still it would be nicer if the restaurant had served the bread with butter.
    Calamari Frutti
    Calamari Frutti

Then quickly came our deep-fried calamari rings. It was undoubtedly freshly made as it was pipping hot! The coating was really thin and i really appreciate that. It tasted nice as well. The calamari was fresh and spongy. smile
    Salmon and Spinach Risotto
    Salmon and Spinach Risotto

Salmon and spinach risotto was pinkish in colour - not really appetizing for me. lol Anyway, we four could each get a reasonable share of rice, broth and salmon flakes. It was rich and creamy in texture, but strangely there was a wheatish and 'tough' aftertaste - it was as if you were swallowing some rice with bran. The broth was of the appropriate taste and texture, and the taste of spinach was much stronger than that of salmon's. sad
    Half n half Pizza
    Half n half Pizza

We were a little disappointed when the pizza came as we were anticipating something in a bigger portion. sad It looked nice tho: 1/2 - 3 slices being topped with cajun chicken, peppers and spoonfuls of sour cream, and the other half being drizzled with veggies. I especially liked the Louisiana half as the cajun chicken chunks were pretty juicy. Sour cream was the key to its tastiness - it worked like magic, enhancing the aroma and taste of the half pizza! smile When compared the veggie half was undoubtedly more healthy and yet more bland - there were hardly any seasoning except from a drizzle of herbs and the underlying tomato sauce. mad

The environment of the restaurant was pretty cozy, but it could get really noisy if full - but great services indeed. smile

Not bad at all! Smile Feb 03, 2011
Share with MessengerShare on TwitterShare on Facebook
A typical casual Italian joint around the Soho area that also serves a bit of fusion dishes.

Menu is quite extensive. Their pizzas are the thin and crispy kind, which I like. Their pasta portion is quite large and are not bad. Their salad portion is also generous, and their leaves are relatively fresh. The bread basket is nothing to be excited about, wouldn't touch it unless I was starving.

There are several choices for dessert. Chocolate fondant, creme brulee, tiramisu, and something else I forgot. Average quality.

Service is rather fast and friendly. One thing to note - if you don't wanna be near the kitchen door that keeps opening and closing, don't seat yourself at the last table down the hall. Overall a nice and affordable place to go in the neighborhood!

If you have three hours for a causal dinner, go for this restaurant!
We have spent three hours on this causal dinner, with the majority of the time just waiting, waiting and waiting.
Waiting for the bread to come
waiting for the appetizers to arrive (though the appetizers and the pizza are worthy)
waiting for the main course to emerge
waiting for the dessert to show up...
we ended up leaving the restaurant at 11:30....

I was recently craving Italian and decided Brivo is probably a good spot to have dinner with 5 of my good friends.

Environment: The place is definitely on the small side (about 25-30 seats) but not unusual for Soho standards. Considering we ordered a lot of food we found it was not easy to fit everything on the table. Although with that said, I thought the place was cozy and not uncomfortable by any means.

Service: I thought the waitstaff here was very friendly and helpful. The food did take a bit longer to prepare than we would like but overall I am quite pleased with the waitstaff. There's just a strong sense that the waitstaff tried hard to showcase that they value your business which I find lacking in a lot of other restaurants in Hong Kong.

Food: I would classify the food at Brivo as "International cuisine" with a slight Italian focus. The reason I say this is because I found their menu had Italian, Mexican, Thai and American dishes. Furthermore I found their menu to be extremely extensive especially for such a small restaurant. My personal opinion is menus like this usually suggest a lack of focus on the restaurant's part. It's so hard to do a few things well let alone a ton of things well.

Anyway...boy, did we over-order tonight. Between the 6 of us we ordered 5 appetizers, 2 pizzas, 6 entrees and a bottle of red wine! I didn't try everything but I'll review everything I did get to try:

chopstick Parma Ham and Melon: Decent. I think if the parma ham was a little saltier and the melon was a little cooler (temperature wise) it would be a better dish.

chopstick Thai Beef Salad: I was a little shocked at the size of this salad. The dish was quite gigantic. I felt they were a little heavy handed on the sour element of the dish but I liked the spicy kick from the dressing. Decent amount of beef even there was a ton of vegetables. Overall a pretty refreshing and tasty dish...a nice way to start.

chopstick Calamari Frutti: Pretty decent. Calamari didn't feel too chewy/tough and the sauce was quite nice. This dish could have been better if the calamari had a more crispy exterior from the deep frying.

chopstick Caprese Salad: Not bad. Although the mozzarella could have been of higher quality and the tomatoes a little cooler in temperature (it was more room temperature) I though the overall dish was pretty decent. I do like the twist where they used capers to give it a slight salty tang.

chopstick Surpreme Pizza: I've spent an extensive time in New York so I like my pizza a certain way. With that said, I thought the thin crispy crust pizza here at Brivo to be pretty decent. The toppings were generous and the cheese tasted quite 'cheesy'. I'm not a major fan of crispy pizza crust but it did provide a nice textural contrast to the cheesy toppings.

chopstick Linguine Alle Vongole (linguine with clams): I quite liked this dish. Some people may find this dish slightly under-seasoned but it worked for me. A trick I think is to include a clam in each bite since the saltiness from the clam evens out the seasoning from your mouthful of pasta. My minor gripe about this dish was the large pieces of basil in the pasta. I think they should be smaller since when you get a mouthful of pasta with a large piece of basil it overwhelms the taste of clams, pasta and sauce. Pasta itself was al dente and had good bite to it. Visually the dish looked interesting (the little clams surround the pasta in a 'flower-like' pattern) which I thought was a nice touch.

Note: My friends who had the Spagetti Ai Fruitti Di Mare (basically seafood spaghetti) and Penne A La Vodka both said their pasta was under-seasoned. Although it might be a little silly to mention, I've recently been eating quite 'cleanly' (mainly because I started running a lot again) and my taste buds have become more sensitive so I now favor food that is a little more lightly seasoned.

So the bottom line is this:

    - The quality of food at Brivo is pretty decent (won't blow you away) although I personally could find no major standouts dishes.

    - The portions at Brivo I think are generous and reasonably priced unlike a lot of other Italian restaurants in the Central/Soho/Sheung Wan area.

    - The service at Brivo I think deserves a mention cause I think it's hard to find a restaurant in HK (let alone a medium priced one) nowadays where the waitstaff feels like they value your business.

Final note: I think most people should be able to get dinner here (even with wine) for under $300. I paid $350/head mainly because we over-ordered.

So if your looking for a place in Soho that serves decent food at reasonable prices I think you should give Brivo a try.

Unbelievably good lunch Smile Feb 27, 2010
Share with MessengerShare on TwitterShare on Facebook
Came here for a relatively late lunch. Most western restaurants seem to finish their lunch rounds at 2 or 2.30 but here they finish at 3pm - perfect since we arrived at 2.30!

The exterior didn't seem very inviting since the restaurant itself is pretty dark inside, and unlike the restaurants on the same street, this restaurant only had 2 other diners. But we decided on this restaurants based on their menu, as the other restaurants' set lunches didn't entice us...

After consulting the main menu (which is by the way rather extensive for such a small restaurant, including fajitas to pastas and quite a lot of salad choices) and the set lunch, we decided to go for the $88 deal, including an entree (soup (2 kinds) or salad), main (steak, salmon, pasta, 4 types of pizza), and a coffee/tea or dessert to finish.

    Entrees:
    chopstick Cajun Chicken Salad
This salad deserves a double thumbs-up. Not only was it beautiful it was rather tasty except for a little mishap with the cajun chicken. I forgot to take a photo and i regret this because it really looked stunning - it had halved cherry tomatoes, mesclun leaves and several small strips of chicken with a lightly-flavoured house dressing. The colours made it look amazing and the portion was very generous for a part of a set lunch! My only complaint would be the chicken - flavour was okay but it was WAY too dry. I think it was a problem with the cooking method (pan-fried) as well as the fillet being too thin and not being marinated in a tenderizing marinade.

    chopstickMushroom soup
The mushroom soup was my friend's choice. The other choice was seafood soup, which also appealed to me, but as it was way too hot and humid that day I decided on a cold entree. Anyway, this soup was also very gorgeous - pureed mixed mushrooms (had dark and light brown colours) with a few drops of oil on top. My friend was wondering why this was the colour, and my guess was that it didn't have much cream or simply didn't have any. So what you had was, instead of a creamy soup, it was a very hearty and earthy-flavoured mushroom soup - really tasty, and I prefer this type than the standard cream of mushroom which is so common.

I adore thin-crusted pizzas so 'pizza' was the choice for me...however i struggled to choose among the four choices (margherita, Hawaiian, pepperoni). The other choices apart from pizza was pasta, grilled sirloin steak w/ mash, risotto of the day and a pan-seared salmon w/ mash.

This pizza had a tomato sauce base, button mushroom pieces, chicken breast and cheese. The base of the pizza was amazing. It was piping hot and crisp so the first two slices were the best! The chicken again had a problem for being too dry but it was still acceptable. The amount of cheese was also just right - not too much so I felt full after one or two slices. The serving size of the pizza seemed to be a very generous 10-inch, but this is only an estimation because it was larger than the one i had for lunch at 798 unit co which was an 8-inch.

This was my friend's choice, for pasta is her comfort food =). I had a few bites of her pasta and I have to say i was extremely impressed by the spaghetti - al dente with a bite! The sauce was also very good - hearty tomato without the big chunks, and the bacon gave it a good flavour.

For the third course, we opted for a dessert of the day (brownie + ice cream) and a coffee. The coffee was decent, especially as part of a 'set' - i would prefer this much more over the kona coffee i had at fusion gourmet. The brownie was disappointing - it tasted exactly like the ones made from cake mix and it was a tad dry. But then again I didn't expect much as they seem to execute their savouries very well.

I rarely comment about restaurants' service, but I would like to give a mention for Brivo. Their staff (two waiters when we went) were very polite. One especially took great care of us - made sure we had finish our entrées before serving the mains, grating pepper for each course, asking how the dishes were and only when we looked like we stopped eating did they take our dishes away. On top of this, that one waiter seemed to be the one preparing the dessert - he warmed up the brownie (although by microwave it was the gesture that counts) and also scooped the ice cream and prepared the coffee to be served with steamed milk (not just warmed!). Not to say restaurants nearby have poor service (they are all friendly and inquire our comments on food), but the service here was honestly outstanding.... smile

The bill came to $194 for a wonderful lunch - extremely worth it!

Whoever who have already tried would agree with me that Brivo offers excellent service at a price that most can afford and, needless to say, great value of food for the money you spent. We will definitely go back many more times!!!!!!!!!! We (two of us) have a large bottle of sparkling water, a bottle of French chardonnay, starters, main courses, desserts and coffees. Fragileco was on the house . . . and the meal costed only . . . smile lol

I came here twice. Had the pasta the first time, then rissoto the second time. Both are fabulous. Goumet KC wrote great review and took nice photos. I just want to second him.

The pasta is al dente. The rissoto is chewy and more on the raw side. But overall they are very good. Many people order steak with mashed potatoes, but the pasta and rissoto really reveal the skills of the chef.

I tried both tomato seafood soup and salad. The soup looks better than it tastes. Thick with tomato paste and some miscellaneous seafood pieces. I will stick to the salad next time.

I got a wedge of cheese cake on the 1st visit, and tiramisu+ice-cream on the 2nd. These are all generous dessert, considering some restaurants just give you ordinary cake and ice-cream.

Not too crowdy. You can have very relaxing lunch. Don't sit near the doorway because lots of traffic on the street, especially big trucks. You can end up breathing fumes.
