friend let sunflowerting chose one of her favour place nearby Mongkok, we enjoy the meal more than the environment within 1.5 hours,

dishes come within 10 mins during our conversation next to the window,
chopstick avoncado cucumber salad with crab-meat

= taste good when the sauce & the softness of avoncado just right company to the cucumber, which is friend's favour rather vingear to green lettuce.tongue
    chopstick carbonara,

also our lovely choice apart from various tomato sauce spagetti, creamy style with strong taste of cheese & company with french toast in small size is just right from 1/3 dishes tonight!
    chopstick baked slice potato

slightly different from our expectation as we think that the performance is with the skin shocked anyway friend accept the creamy dishes more than sunflowerting as the sauce (again)

fullfill our stomach before our dessert time later smile
    Supplementary Information:
~ agree with some bloggers' mention: too noisy even our table is next to the window, maybe some of the big groups need to talk softly & concern about the other customers!
    ~ expense : around $300

My 2nd time @ Applegreen, this time ordered food to go. The order was made at around 630, and food was ready in around 10 minutes. Pretty fast!

    1. Half portion of Goddess with walnut bread $80
    - this is cucumber, avocado and crab meat salad
    - as ordered to go, the salad dressing was given in a separate container
    - quite a refreshing salad, light, everything is fresh
    - but half portion is too small, only a few sticks of cucumbers, a few slices of avocados
and a small scoop of crab meat, at $80, expect the salad to be a bit bigger
    - the salad is sided with a slice of walnut bread, which is really really delicious, but
    it's quite filling

    2. Carbonara with Egg and Bacon $102
    - not enough sauce (not sure if it dried up a bit on my way home, but I live just a few minutes away)
    - very heavy pasta, not for anyone who doesn't like cream sauce
    - quite oily

    3. Grilled Salmon $138
    - quite a thin slice of grilled salmon, taste ok, but a bit too dry
    - nothing special about this dish
    - sided with potatoes which tasted quite good

    4. Mashed Potatoes $24
    - delicious

    Brunch @ Applegreen Smile Oct 18, 2010
Share with MessengerShare on TwitterShare on Facebook
Had a meet-up with a couple of friends @ Applegreen in Mong Kok. This was my first time to this branch, and also my first time to try out its Weekend Brunch menu. (Again this visit was a few months back so prices are subject to change smile)

Surprisingly the place wasn't full when we arrived at 1 pm on a Saturday, while there were queues outside most other eateries in the mall. We were told that the restaurant was reserved at 3 o'clock for a private party, but 2 hours would be enough for us.

The walls were lined with paintings and the restaurant had a relaxing ambience.

We looked though the items on the Weekend Brunch menu.

    And here are our choices:

    Egg in the Hole $82
2 Eggs Sunny-Side Down inside 2 pieces of Bread, served with Honey Ham, Pork Links, crispy Potato Hash & Freshly Mixed Fruits
We were amazed by the meticulous presentation. The woos and wows aside, it tasted good! You may wonder where the eggs are...in fact they were inside the round pieceds of bread, in the "holes" just covered by the 2 smaller pieces of cut-out bread. So when the bread was cut the golden runny yolks flowed out and we quickly swept that up with the bread! The hash was made of shreds of potatoes, the texture was more solid and crispy than the usual frozen hash (with those diced potatoes), and proved to be best company with the succulent ham and pork sausages. Of course we didn't forget the refershing mixed fruits.
    Eggs in the Hole

    Breakfast Pizza $72
Sausage bits and Sunny-Side Egg on top of a 8" Flatbread, Toasted to Crispy
"Breakfast Pizza" reads "breakfast" items on a "pizza". Period.
Well this is quite an innovation for those lazy people like me - what's better than having your breakast with just a single hand? (Apart from the cutting)
But with this way of making the egg, it was unevitably overcooked, yet the flatbread was real crispy. After having sausages from the last dish I thought those in this pizza were too salty, but a tinge of herbiness was there.
    Breakfast Pizza
    Breakfast Pizza

Each of the Brunch dishes came with a drink of choice. My Green Iced Tea came unsweetened (I forgot whether I ordered that to be or it was the default, if it were the latter I'd give extra marks as few eateries in town would go by that), I'd have liked the tea more concentrated but it was the gesture that counted.

A chocoholic friend ordered Very Chocolate Smoothie a la carte. I didn't get to taste it but my friend was already half full after finishing it, thanks to the heap of whip on top.

And who would leave Applegreen without a salad?
    Green Goddess (Half Size)
Mouth Watering Crab Meat mixed with Green Peas on top of a bread of Cucumbers & Avocado, tossed with Lemon Cream
This has to be one of my favourite salads at Applegreen. It was creamy, both from the zesty lemon cream dressing and also the avocado (rich in Vit. E too!), and meaty (meaning the crab meat), and crispy (cucumbers) and it got the right balance of all textures and flavours which essentially was what a good salad takes.
Now the lemon poppyseed cake/bread/loaf/whatever is only available on request. I don't like it personally, but asked for a piece for my friends' sake. They liked it but we were already too full to finish it.

We stayed well past 3 pm and no one gave us the bill until we asked for it. tongue

Great place for a light meal - says on the menu that "American size" is served but we managed to finish the food - maybe the Americans' appetite has gone smaller these days - and casual chit-chat.

Ok lunch Just OK Sep 12, 2010
Share with MessengerShare on TwitterShare on Facebook
I came here for lunch with a colleague last week. We got the "light" lunch set, which didn't turn out to be super-light after all, and a bucket of cajun fries to split.

The light lunch included your choice of soup or salad, a main course, and coffee or tea, from $58-88, I believe. My friend and I both got the salad with wasabi vinaigrette dressing (one of three choices); she got a pasta with mussels and cream sauce, and I got the grilled vegetable penne with tomato sauce. Oh yes, and the cajun fries (I never met fries I didn't like!)

My favorite part of the meal was the salad. They served mixed greens with bits of spinach, frisee, and other good stuff. The wasabi vinaigrette was pretty genius; I was afraid the wasabi would overwhelm everything, but there was only a bit of a bite. The cajun fries
were quite good too; very hot and crispy. I would have liked more seasoning though! There were bits of red flakes on there, but I couldn't taste much. Even some more salt would have helped. Those ain't cajun, son!

The two pastas were simply okay. I think they're the HK-ified version of what Italian food tastes like. My penne with red sauce was easily something I could have made at home, but better. The cheese on top looked like it was melted in chunks and left to coagulate; the sauce itself didn't have much flavor. The grilled veggies were fine, but again, a little bit bland.

My friend's shells with cream sauce seemed like it sat too long in the window. I say this because the cream sauce was not much of a sauce, but rather like a hard casing once it got out to us.

The dining room was quite nice; it was bright and airy with vivid colors. Kinda reminded me of the Giraffe chain in London.

I would give this place a so-so rating and not get any pastas next time. The salads could be al right.

lunch on weekday Just OK Sep 07, 2010
Share with MessengerShare on TwitterShare on Facebook
Had lunch with a friend in Apple Green on weekday. Not many people. No need to book.

We had one lunch set and one half-portion salad (grilled musrhoom and greens with vinegar sauce)

The lunch include a salad, a salmon pasta with cream sauce and one coffee. The salad is ok although i think there is not enough honey and mustard sauce. the pasta is too heavy. the cream sauce coated every pasta. very oily. there is only few salmon. not quite good.

The coffee is very bad. Not recommend to have coffee here.

The griled mushroom salad is ok. quite many musrhoom. but again, there is not enough sauce.

the desciption of applegreen is "以輕盈的美國菜為主打"
it doesn't mean that the portion can be that small
the size is really not enough for an adult

the tatse is also not so special
while for the price, it is set too high

As good as it was  Smile Mar 22, 2010
Share with MessengerShare on TwitterShare on Facebook
It was my second attempt at the Apple green after a year. Actually I seldom go back to the same restaurant these days, because they are just not good enough to go back. But Apple Green, I definitely have no hesitation.
I have not tried other branches of Apple Green. I only go Monkok. This time the menu was different to last time. Selections were narrowed down and no English in the menu. I don't know why they made that change. Anyway, they serve Brunch on Sunday. And all of them sound quite heavy as they are served in American style.
On Sunday lunchtime, apple green wasn't crowded. So it is a very good place to go when you want to have a quiet Sunday lunch. You can enjoy the sky view from the restaurant with your coffee.
I ordered Egg in a hole, I didn't get what it was in the beginning, until I saw it.They cut a hole in a piece of bread and replace an egg in that whole. I quite like the idea and they did it very delicately. The bread was toasted beautifully. Apart from the bread, there is a sausage as well, but that one was too salty. Also with a honey glazed ham, that one was nice. But my favourite was a glass of mixed fruit goes together. It just made you fill a lot better after eating those heavy meaty stuff. Well Done!! The quality of food was as good as it was. It was fresh, nicely presented and yummy. This is very impressive.

This is my first time to go to this restaurant. Frankly speaking, the food is acceptable based on the price. I find that there were some animal paintings in the restaurant, it made the place more lively. However I didn't like the table and chairs design. My friend went there with me , both of us have bags with us. However the waitress only gave us a small table, as a result, all the dishes crowded all over the small table. Besides my friends' bag had to be put on her knees and my bag had to be put on the floor. Finally when I put my clothes on the chair back, other customers always touched my clothes with their dirty shoes because of the narrow space between tables and tables & chairs and chairs ! In my opinion, such a high class restaurant, they should give us another small chair for us to put my bags and clothes on it. In my opinion, Apple Green still has many rooms for improvement !sad

NOT AS GOOD AS BEFORE Just OK Jan 25, 2010
Share with MessengerShare on TwitterShare on Facebook
First time i went to this branch is December 2008.
It was opened for a while only.

But I was a fan of them quite a long time ago since the first time going to their first branch in TST.
As I couldnt book a table in TST for Christmas dinner, i rang up their new branch in Mk.

I was looking foward in having their Carbonara again.
Unlike the TST branch, it is inside th shopping mall, which i didn't like as much.
It is much bigger than the TST branch, not as cozy, with much more seat.
i didn't like this branch as I walked in.
It is less stylish, less cozy, and lessy comfy.
    Menu was the same.
I was surprised they werent full on Xmas day, maybe not many ppl knw thy have new branch opened.
As I didnot have a good experience with their Dessert,
this time I decided not to have a dessert, but a full set of slad and two main course.

    We ordered,
    棒棒雞沙律
    Spaghetti Carbonara
    芝士什菌雞胸

棒棒雞沙律 was good, I liked the crunchy parts in the salad, makes it very different.
I like the taste of the dressing. Much better than the tuna salad we had last time.
I was quite full after the salad.
But I realy dont like the bana cake on top of the salad
    It ruins the taste
    Here came THE Spaghetti carbonara.
i couldn't forget the taste of the Carbonara since i had it in TST.
This time was very disapointing. It was creamy.
But not much taste to it.
Not as rich as last time.
Last time Bf and I had to fight to eat it
this time, I did not fight, and let my Bf finish it.
I had the roast chicekn breast with mash
The mash was lovely, very rich and creamy. with a buttery taste.
I liked the chiceken breast with mushroom and cheese.
But it is an easy dish, that can not go wrong

    Overall, was a good meal.
BUT definately not as good as before in TST.
I do not know if this branch had worse standard, or it has just gone down.
after thsi time I have never returned to Apple Green,
Firstly because this meal was just not good. The Carbonara, which i came back for, was not as good, was average.
Secondly, the atmosphere, I did not like at all, service was not as good, the waitreess was not to be seen, and I had to keep asking for refill on my water.
Thirdly, the TST branch has closed down.

TERRIBLE American Food Cries Jul 05, 2009
Share with MessengerShare on TwitterShare on Facebook
Seeing that Applegreen has been popular on Openrice for a while now, my friends and I check Applegreen out.

We ordered Chicken Caesar Salad, Guacamole, Hakata Cod roe Spaghetti, Carbonara and Cajun Fries.

Caesar Salad: MEH. where are the chicken? there were some tiny little pieces in the bottom. AND YOU CALL IT CHICKEN CAESAR SALAD???

Guacamole: huffy Unbelievably bland. Coming from America, this was a total disappointment. It was basically mashed up avocado with diced tomatoes. NO seasoning, NO spices and NO lemon/lime flavour. VERY tasteless. and on top of that, there were too much guacamole for the amount of chips we got.

Cod roe Spaghetti: VERY NORMAL. (buy yourself a pack of Japanese codroe spaghetti sauce from CitySuper or Sogo, they are more worth their prices).

Carbonara: Normal. nothing special at all.

Cajun Fries: I actually liked this more than anything else. but it wouldn't be worth it to just go to the restaurant for the fries.

The waitress kept pouring water to the very top of the glass. Okay, I get it may save some time for them to keep coming to refill our glasses, but it is hard to drink and it is sloppy service.
Despite the presentation of the food, appearance can be very deceiving!! Everything is overpriced and overrated. It was very disappointing.

We ordered the 3 $88 set lunch with the choice between corn soup/carrot soup and salad as the appetizer.

I tried carrot soup and grilled salmon. They were really nice.

The carrot soup was not the kind of canned soup but instead the grinded type with some texture.

The salmon was a little bit overcooked but in an acceptable range, still nice. What surprised us was the lemon butter that comes with the salmon! It really tastes good and doesnt like the ordinary kind of sweet potato paste. Worth a try!

Finally tried this place, after seeing all the scrumptious pictures.

It can be very delicious or it can be ordinary depending on what you pick.

The buffulo wings were a bit of a disappointment, not cooked thorough enough, as it is still red and bloody around the bones.
The fries in cajun seasoning were aromatic, and fried just right.

The Green princess salad, was elegant and presented as stated, slightly too small as a portion. But I suppose quality is better than quantity.

Then finally the seared Ahi Tuna was the best, tuna wrapped in seaweed then fried in a tempura batter, half cooked, with the wasabi soya vinegar sauce was a perfect match.

Went there with a bunch of friends.
Tuna salad with avocado - salad was good, the greens were fresh, tuna was acceptable but didn't taste of much, the avocado was tasty but there weren't enough of.
    Galic bread - tasty
Carbonara - the speghetti was cooked just right, but there weren't very much bacon only lots of speghetti
Sausages platter - good quantity and tasty, the mash potatoe was pretty good
Salmon fillet - one of the best dish that evening, the salmon fillet was grilled just enough, not overcooked, good quantity of veg and mash.
明太子意粉 - horrible!!!! it was simply salad cream mixed with speghetti, tasted like sushi but eating pasta, quite disgusting.
    Desserts - overall too sweet
the grilled fruit platter was gross, fruits simply can't be grilled (personal opinion) as the outter layer of the fruit turns into jelly like film. They also put too much syrup onto the fruit so it was very sweet.
peanut butter and banana turnover - again horrible
Cheese cake - was simple but tasted good
    Creme brulee - good
Apple green crisp - the crumble on top was done well and tasted good but the apple at the bottom was too sweet.
    Brownies - FAR too sweet.
the enviroment was good, spacious and the waiters' services were good. I guess it's a nice place to hangaround with friends for dinner, but the food quality does not deserve the price they charge. Desserts were disappointing especially after reading all those good reviews.

Have always wanted to try this restaurant since there're lots of good reviews about it. Finally made a booking successfully for Friday night to celebrate my friend's birthday. The booking was at 8:30pm, but they made us wait till 9:15pm, which made us kinda pissed.

Anyhow, there were 3 of us, and we ordered a 1/2 portion of sesame orange chicken salad, hakata cod roe spaghetti, and cajun fries in a trash bin. The salad was nice and fresh, but we thought it tasted a bit like the Asian dish 手撕雞. The cod roe spaghetti was a bit too creamy for my taste and I think they used a bit too much dressing, but the taste was quite special, kinda reminding me of Japanese cuisine. I seriously recommend the cajun fries -- they were hot and fresh and the spices made them really tasty.

It was my friend's birthday so they gave us a free dessert, which apparently was creme brulee for that day. According to my friend it was really 'eggy' and a bit too filling. On top of that, we ordered a peanut butter and banana turnover, which was unexpectedly good and crispy.

All in all, I would say this place serves nice food for reasonable prices. However, the noise can get a bit irritating (I think it's because of the low floor height), and the wait can be quite unbearable.

very bad service quality~~~~ Just OK Feb 02, 2009

the food is quite nice with nice food presentation..however we got a very bad experience while we had a CNY gathering with friends there.....

the story was that we booked table for 7 but eventually we got 8 in total..hence we requested adding one more chair from waitress...but the waitress was like...unwilling to help with a very bad temper..keep asking us why we were not calling in advanced....and she said she has helped us to search for the whole restaurant that there was no extra chair only WITHIN 30 seconds...but its obvious tht she even didnt asked for the table around us (while there was only 3 ppl but they had 4 chair) .....

they most important thing we feel hard is not because of they really cant serve with jz an extra chair..but of coz, with the bad bad service...the waitress keep "blaming us" and seems helpless to us....

better that their supervisor came and help to arrange for a new table at the end...or else we will feel so hard tht we even cant request for jz an extra chair with her bad temper~~~
