Steamers Bar & Restaurant     火船  

The 'Steamers' restaurant is one of the most popular get together and eating places in Sai Kung. It is a cheery little pub-like restaurant that is also big enough to house a full party of people. Compared to other restaurants, Steamers gets more customers and in my opinion is a lot more lively. Although I have to say that whenever I go there it always starts and ends the same way, it first is all quiet with quiet conversation between each other then it slowely progresses to people shouting all the time, but when you've been there a lot of times the noise does not tend to bother you.
When I arrived at the restaurant there was not many people which meant there were a lot of free tables, once I was at the table I ordered my drink, Ginger ale, even though this does not count as a starter I always start of with a few drinks which is always ginger ale. Whenever I take a sip from it, it always gives you that fizz when it goes down your throat, I absolutly loved drinking it. The way the restaurant was decorated makes you feel like you have arrived in some place new, wooden fans and light shades hung from the cealing and some huge barrels were resting in the corners and near some tables, I thought it gave a tropical effect to it but also combining it with the bar table where people can go sit by with the many choices of drinks it gave the feeling of a real British pub.
Eventually the time came around where we were going to order our food, The menue was a large piece of laminated paper, I say it should be more smaller; the menu served a whole range of food from different cultures, varying from curry to fish to chips and even to American style hamburgers. The menu presented breakfast, lunch and dinner meals and daily food specials. I however chose to have the chilli con carne; All I can say through the course of my time waiting for my food was like waiting in line for the bus, it took what felt like hours. When I got my chilli con carne I had it with a side order of garlic bread and some good ol' ginger ale, All I can say was that it was absolutely amazing especially when you dig it with garlic bread, it was food that cannot be forgotten.
I think overall besides the waiting a while for your meal to arrive the wait is worth it and the food, atmosphere and service was just great. I would strongly recommend Steamers for people who like a restaurant with good and cheery service, which has a quiet and lively side to it, with easily found empty tables and a whole veriety of food for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

The scrambled eggs were not creamy. Obviously the whole breakfast was overcooked except baked beans.

3 of us went there for lunch at about 1230p.m. and one of us was a regular customer there.

We ordered 2 full English Breakfast and one light English Breakfast. You could choose between french flies and harsh brown. The harsh brown was crispy and delicious. The portion was good too. We were sitting outside in the garden overlooking the main street. It was a good spot for a relaxing afternoon.

When I checked the bill around 4pm., I went into the bar to settle my friend's bill (the regular's bill) and my bill (for 2 persons). The lady then asked me if I wanted to settle the regular's bill as well. Then I was given two bills, one was mine for 2 persons and the other is the regular's. The regular customer's was charged for 22 glasses of merlot, 10 glasses of white wine and a light English breakfast. and my own bill was charged for 4 glasses of merlot, 2 lemon teas and 2 full English Breakfast. My bill was correct but not the regular's since only one person drank merlot in our group, I then asked that lady why there were 22 merlot being charged in the regular's bill since my friend at most could only consume 5-6 glasses of merlot. The lady then shouted to others "why 22 merlot". Without any explanation, the regular's bill was amended--------- ONLY 2 MERLOT Were CHARGED BUT NOT 22 MERLOT. It saved me 20 glasses of Merlot becasue I checked the bill. It might be careless mistake on their part. However, we should check the bill whenever we go.
