I always like trying new things so when I heard about the curry eggettes I decided to try them.
However they did not have them as scheduled when I went.
I have tried calling this branch to ask if they were doing the curry eggettes but no one answers the phone.

You have to go there at the right time because there is not always someone at the eggette counter or it is sold out.

Anyway I finally managed to get it this time!

The eggettes cost $17 and you have to wait around 8-10 minutes.The eggettes are made with their special curry mixture.The eggette maker is heated upThen the curry spices and black sesame are added.After adding the mixture, shredded seaweed is added.★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Curry flavoured eggettes:The curry taste taste was really spicy and the eggette was really sweet which I did not like.
It would have tasted nice if the eggette was savoury.

I actually wanted to come here for the eggettes because I read somewhere that they were doing curry, but they only had original today.

Anyway, they only do eggettes at certain times of the day, and their egg tarts are baked at certain times of the day too, so you have to be there at the right place and right time to get their bakery products.

Maria's bakery in general is really good and sometimes their bakery tastes better than anticipated.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★Custard bun with runny custard filling:This bun totally surprised me, the filling inside was delicious and runny and the whole bun overall was not too sweet.
They used the same method as their runny eggtarts by enclosing the runny filling in a glutinous mochi sack.As well as keeping the runny filling together so that it does not get absorbed into the bun, the chewyness of the mochi filling in the bun was delicious.

Chocolate souffle:This was just a plain chocolate bun with dense cocao paste inside.
At first when I took a bite I thought it had two layers of filling, then after the second bite it was not.The filling tasted like the biscuit part of moistened oreo cookies.
The overall bun was not too sweet.

Mini apple crumble:The size of the apple crumble was quite cute and it contained raisins and diced stewed apples,however it was too sweet.I was expecting the colour of the filling to be a lighter colour.

Chocolate king muffin:This was too dry.

Improvements:The shop space was too small even after rennovation, it was hard to get to the cabinets without knocking people about hence the queue outside the shop.
It would also help if they answered their phones too as I have tried to call them many times to make some enquiries.

I have always wanted try Maria’s because of their egg tarts with runny centres.

I was hoping to try all their flavours, but they only had chocolate that day.
Other flavours I have heard of are: Mocha, Custard and Cheese.

The egg tarts were in a special cabinet at the takeaway counter, so I went to that counter to make an order.
I was waiting for a while and was not served.
It appears that the counter was not in service and you have to queue inside to get the egg tarts.

I wish there were some notice in English saying please queue inside and that the counter window should be closed because it was quite misleading. There were also other people who queued there and then found out you have to queue inside.
It would have been helpful if the staff could have redirected people inside the shop when they tried to order.

In the end, I got two chocolate egg tarts and a mini chicken pie!

Chicken Pie:
I don’t eat Chinese chicken pies, but it looked too cute, so I got one.
The size of this pie was really small about 4cm in diameter, there was mini BBQ pork as well as other mini pastries.
I was surprised I liked it, the taste was similar to the one I had at North Point.
There was a huge chunk of chicken thigh meat inside and the pastry was so flakey and crispy that it was like eating a piece of western roast chicken with crispy skin!★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Chocolate Egg Tart
On the way back, I found out the hard way that it was REALLY filled with Liquid chocolate.
When I opened the box, I found that one of the tarts was already oozing chocolate liquid because there was a hole for it to seep out!I wasn’t sure how to eat this egg tart because it was going to be messy, so I just used a spoon and dug in the centre.
I then realised there was mochi in the centre of the egg tart, which was really cool, it was the mochi that was holding the liquid chocolate inside.
I really liked this tart because there is less egg tart filing in proportion to the egg tart and there is yummy gooey mochi and liquid chocolate inside.
The sweetness was just right and I really regret not getting more because I hardly ever come here.
The base of the egg tart was short crust, which I prefer as well.
I just loved the chewiness of the mochi and the short crust pastry crumbling in my mouth with the liquid chocolate giving it flavour.
The tart does not look appetizing, but it tastes better than it looks.★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★

It was my first doll cake in my life in 2010 Valentine’s Day. I bought it to share with my beloved family. Officially it doesn’t consider as a ‘Barbie’ cake, since Maria's Bakery(MB) didn’t apply the real Barbie for the cake, instead, MB used Jenny (the Japanese doll) for the cake… it weights two pounds, not really a tall nor huge one, can be finished by 7-9 people. Inside the sponge cake is reasonably soft, full of cream with mixed canned fruits. My family didn’t really like it since they felt too creamy for them… well, it would be nicer if less cream is applied… Overall I enjoyed this ‘jenny’ cake, I like its creamy white and pinkish decoration on the creamy dress. It was so elegant and sophisticated.

P.S. the L-O-V-E candles were not included from the package, they were provided by “ME”, only a dress for Jenny was provided.

藍莓 ; 芝麻 ; 奶黃糯米糍 ($12 for 3)The 3 balls were safely tucked into a cute paper box that had obviously been specially designed just for them. However, they were a disappointment. The skin was too thick, and not soft enough. The respective fillings were mediocre, with the blueberry one being slightly more unique, though it didn’t taste much like blueberries. It was rather just like a sweet yogurt-y paste.

i bought a few pieces of mochi from maria's bakery in Central and ate them after lunch and dinner separately.


the first i tried was the sesame mochi which i ate 'fresh' in the afternoon. It was quite soft but not soft to the extent that it was melting off; yet the filling was really disappointing because, although there are visible bits of sesame powder, it didnt have a strong taste and smell of sesame. It was just-bland.

After dinner we shared the rest of the 3 mochi - chocolate, red bean and custard.


the red bean mochi was the worst among all because it was so tough that it wont even break open if you dropped it to the ground, i think. i couldnt even cut it open properly and when i did, i felt like i was not cutting through a mochi but something hard. The skin was WAY TOO THICK and the red bean filling was not exceptionally impressive either.

the custard mochi was,in general, the best. it was not oversweetened and tasted realy like the runny custard buns you get in chinese restaurants. The skin was okay in terms of softness and taste.

Last, we also tried the chocolate mochi. It was also good and the chocolate filling was molten, but it was nonetheless TOO SWEET. i think the filling will be better placed in a molten chocolate cake than in a mochi.

In general - not particularly impressive. Ever since the 'world no. 1 bun', once so famous for its unique runny custard fillings, decline in quality, Maria's Bakery seems to be less and less attractive to me and i have fewer reasons to grab something for snack. unless....

Went there after lunch to grab an egg tart for a bite! The egg tart was warm, very yellow and the crust was a bit dark. I thought the crust had a coffee flavor as it was rather dark, but it turned out to be quite good. Anyway, the egg tart was not bad! Pretty good, but seriously $5 for an egg tart is a bit too expensive! Should really reduce the price and service is not very good either. Service is far too slow and not very friendly.
