Had a friend in town from Shanghai, and decided to book at Watermark, looking for a top restaurant experience with harbour view. Well, we got the view.

When we arrived (8:30 pm on a Friday) there were only 3 other tables occupied. One more couple arrived later. However, the restaurant was full of a tumultuous din from a large party accomodated on the upper level. mad They were obviously tipsy and very loud.....and the restaurant's glass walls reflected the sound to the point where (despite the restaurant being virtually empty other than this group), we had to shout to make ourselves heard.

We thought about leaving, but decided to soldier on. The menu is not very extensive, but I think that was actually a virtue as they did a reasonably good job with the repertoire. One of the starters we ordered (smoked salmon) turned out not to be available. huffy The rest of the food turned out to be pretty good, especially the main courses. For three, we had a rack of lamb, a plate of duck breast and a fish (I forget which one). Everybody thought their dish was quite good, even if nothing really special. (The only down point in the food was the bouillabaisse soup starter, which was rather grainy as if too much starch had been added to thicken it.)

The wine list had a range of offerings starting at about HK$300 on up. We trolled around the bottom of the list for a while and settled on a NZ Pinot Noir for about $350. The waitress went away, and came back 5 mins. later to say it wasn't available.huffy So we settled on one for $450 which was very good indeed.

The service was just okay -- not very English-fluent but when we repeated things slowly, we got our needs across. The good news was that the prices were not astronomical, so we managed to dine with wine but no desserts for about $600 pp.

All in all, I had the impression this place is increasingly geared to tourists looking for a western dining experience with view, in HK. shocked I wouldn't rush back.

Watermark experience Smile Sep 14, 2012

Nowadays, amazing fine dining restaurants are everywhere around Central, however, one dining experience you definitely can't miss is the dinner at Watermark. Located on top floor of the ferry pier 7, shop L. This restaurant is surrounded with a breezy balcony and see-through windows where you can see Kowloon side. As massive ferries approach the pier, the restaurant sways calmly from side by side. A high quality, seafood and grilled, fine dining restaurant above a pier with a fantastic view, what else could be better? tongue

Last Sunday, when I placed my first step into the restaurant, it felt like walking down the isle of a catwalk show but through a fresh waterfall, soft as cotton candy, just melting in your mouth. With romantic lighting, relaxing instrumental background music and a warm orange lamp on the dining table, it felt welcoming and cozy like a family. The menu was a well selection of most traditional French delicacies, each dish as tempting as pinching a cute baby’s face. For my starter, I ordered a Tomato, potato, egg and asparagus salad. When the crunchy colorful salad arrived, I attacked it in no time, excited to taste all the astonishing flavors. After such a wonderful starter, I couldn’t wait to try my main course. In the menu, there were millions of mouth-watering dishes but for a change, I wanted to ask the chef for his recommendations since it was my first time being there. There he was, a giant chubby chef approaching me with a million dollar smile on his face. I could tell that this guy is very caring, polite and quite humorous. At last, he cooked me the restaurant’s signature dish, ‘Aged prime Nebraska rib eye’. I was stunned by the food presentation! The rib eye had a spectacular texture, tender and juicy. The green pepper corn sauce on the side had a remarkable contrast with the beef. Because of the ageing, there was a strong deep beef taste, but together with the sweet and spicy sauce, it tasted like paradise of essence. After an unforgettable main course, the waiter presented me the ‘dessert of the day’ which was a slice of blue-berry cheese cake with mango panna cotta on the side. Both desserts were smooth as silk and had fresh fruits on the top.

Overall, the food, atmosphere and the service was great. The salad was most favourite, it tasted amazing due to the warm potatoes together with spring cold salad leaves.
I would love to recommend my teachers, coaches and even my classmates to this restaurant, I would definitely visit it again because it gave me such a memoriable experience.

After hearing many positive reviews from several friends, I decided to go to WaterMark to try out their lunch. As I walked into the restaurant, there was a nice receptionist who kindly brought us to our table. Both the interior and exterior of the restaurant is really beautiful. The ceilings are extremely high and the place is very spacious, which was very comfortable. smile

As it was my first time at the restaurant, I asked the restaurant manager to explain the menu and to suggest a main course. He explained that the soup was a clear soup, and since I am an avid fan of clear soups, I ordered it. He then continued on suggesting me to have the linguine because he 'likes the texture of linguini'. After speaking to him for some more time, he told me that he's never tried the linguine. .............................. wow. At the end, I wanted to order the boston lobster and I asked if i could have some spaghetti on the side instead of some potatoes and vegetables. The waiter very rudely told me that I had to add 38 dollars, which I think is quite unreasonable .

The lobster was quite nice but the portion was a bit small. My father ordered the parmesan linguine with spicy chicken which was EXTREMELY salty. The manager kindly helped him get a new one and it tasted quite good.

Overall, I was a bit dissappointed

We'd received a call confirming our visit for lunch at 10am that morning. After being seated at restaurant for 10 minutes we received another call...I informed the girl that we were at a table but she checked us out anyway!
As it was my birthday we decided to forgo the buffet appetiser and ordered the duck confit, chorizo, spinach and tomato salad. There were a few unhappy shreds of confit duck and about 4 times the amount of fat and skin which should have been crisped so that it contrasts with the flesh. It was inedible. The chorizo was carelessly served in clumps rather than scattered through the salad and several of the spinach leaves were slimy! Bad move...we should have had the buffet!
Our main courses were excellent. A prime dry aged Nebraska rib-eye cooked blue for my husband and the most tender and delicious braised short-rib with snails and red wine sauce for me.
We decided not to have dessert. Our glasses of sparking wine and red for the mains were very good.
Coffee was nothing special which seems to be the norm for most of Hong Kong!
If you are the slightest bit upset by being on a boat, this is not the place for you as there is the constant gentle movement from the sea swell!

At first arrival, the watermark seemed fairly impressive. We had considered a couple of restaurants that night but figured we'd give this a try after looking at the menu. We knew that this was a more expensive restaurant from the prices on the list - and as such expected the level of service, quality of food, and timeliness of our food arriving at our table to be top notch. Unfortunately this was not the case.

After we had sat down and looked through the menu, the waitress arrived and we asked for a recommendation on the steaks. It seemed like she kept going in circles, not really knowing in depth about the food. She gave 2 suggestions - both of which seemed like she was advised these were the choices she should say rather than actually having tried the food herself and give an actual preference. Descriptions of the food were vague and unhelpful.

We ordered a bottle of red wine, oysters, and 2 steaks.

The oysters were good - nothing out of the ordinary. After I had got the steaks we waited about 40 mins until the steaks arrived...way too long I'd say. We kept eating the bread on the table instead. When the steaks arrived, we were pretty excited - but once we started eating, it was very underwhelming - especially for $400+ HKD each steak,.

We both ordered steaks medium rare and mine came out more medium-well done. I've cooked a number of steaks in the past and knew just by the feel of my steak that it was not medium rare and that it was going to be way too dry, tough, and chewy for what I ordered - once i put it in my mouth, it was confirmed. I had raised it to waitress, and they did not acknowledge that fact. They did not even ask the question - "What would be your preference? Is this what you ordered?" A waitress trying to prove the customer wrong is not good customer service at all.

In addition, I had asked for blue cheese sauce and was given this yellowish sauce, definitely not blue cheese - I flagged down a waitress and asked what sauce it was, she said it was bearnaise sauce and would check with the kitchen. After a while, she did not return. I flagged down another waiter and asked what sauce it was, he said it was blue cheese. What blue cheese sauce tastes nothing like blue and is yellowish...simple, another sauce.

Overall, the restaurant came across as aesthetically pleasing, but really needs work on the quality of service (the waiters/waitresses did not know their menus, what their foods should taste like or look like). Unfortunately, I cannot say that I will come here or recommend it again - there are other restaurants with great views that I believe have a much better dining experience than this one.

Sorry that I do not know how to input Chinese characters.

Just came back from Spain and was trying to have some decent food and good atmosphere for a celebration dinner. The restaurant is located right on the top floor of the Star Ferry (in the Central). The entrance was horrible because it is located at one end of the pier and there was only one single (probably a 50W light bulb) lantern in a 'tunnel' that leads to the entrance of the restaurant. I suppose it would be nice for a Halloween night but not quite for a Friday evening. We have made a reservation but the waitress had reserved our table with a different name. The restaurant is so poorly designed that although there is an open view you can hardly enjoy the beautiful view of the Kowloon side. One of the characteristic is that you can really feel the ferry coming into the pier because you can feel the 'wobbly' moment. The aircons are even worst! No matter where you sit the 'strong' wind is always blowing to your forehead and/or to the back of your neck. Every table cloth was always flowing, if not flying. We have asked for many times to tune down the power of the wind. The answers were yes, OK, BUT nothing was done. One can hardly enjoy a meal with strong winds blowing right into one's face. The price is no doubt similar to that of a 4-5* hotel restaurant but the quality and the service were far from it. I have ordered a set dinner with a salad and a soup. The salad was ok with a typical caser salad like dressing. The soup was a bit salty but it went alright with the bread. Unfortunately, long before I finished my soup my main meal was sitting in front of me waiting for my consumption. My main dish was a piece of duck breast and a slice of foie gras. The taste of the food was ok but not really that brilliant. Maybe it’s my fault that I am not used to food of too rich a taste. The dessert was a cube of chocolate cake and it went well with the coffee. We have also ordered a seafood platter (for 4). The oysters were great especially the Irish one but the whelks and clams that I had were full of sand. Overall, I would say the service was OK but the restaurant is well below my expectation. The men's restroom was incredible! Water was probably overflowing from a faulty toilet and forming a stream on the floor. A plastic sign was erected so you have been warned and you better not wash your hand risking your life stepping over the sign! I am afraid to say that it’s difficult to believe that this is a restaurant recommended by the Cafe Deco Group. I don't think I will go to this restaurant again. Once is more than enough.

First-time diner at Watermark Smile Jun 23, 2011

It was my Polish friend's birthday last Sunday and a group of 10 has come to Watermark to celebrate it. It was my first time to visit the restaurant, albeit staying here in Hong Kong for 8 months now. Upon arrival, we were escorted to our designated seats by the window. I must say the views are breathtaking. We all went for the Harbour Dinner Set, priced at $428 per person. It's a bit pricey, but when dish by dish was served to us , we were was blown away with the food. I personally like the Prime hanging tender with garlic escargot. The beef mains was tender, meaty, tasty and packed with flavors.

After three-hours of chit-chats and laughters, this I must say is one fo the memorable dinners I had in Hong Kong. Not just becuase of company, but also the food, venue and corteous service packaged together. I will definitely come back again. smile bowl

Extremely slow... Just OK May 10, 2011
Share with MessengerShare on TwitterShare on Facebook
It was Monday night and the restaurant was only 40% full, which actually made the place quieter and with more privacy. We were a large group with over 10 people, and it was totally understandable that the food would take a little longer to be served, since western style dictated that everyone gets served at the same time. While everyone was being very patient and tried to ignore the waiting time, the appetizers took nearly an hour to be presented. We didn't order anything fancy, but mostly crab cakes, soup, and salad. Yes, the salad would require some pan-frying, but the soup and salad shouldn't need more than 2-3 min each (unless they were cooked from afresh)...

After finishing up the appetizers, the kitchen seemed to have sped up a bit and we were served after waiting for 30 min. I had ordered a lobster but changing the sides to steamed vegetable. Unfortunately, my order wasn't properly prepared and instead of bringing it back to the kitchen and prepared another plate, the original dish was being brought back and forth between the kitchen and the dining area 3 times. When my plate finally arrived, you could tell that the kitchen had simply used the same pieces of lobster that had become lukewarm, which I didn't really mind if the food was hot. Not only was the food wasn't hot, the lobster meat was puny (imagine having the same quantity of meat as 3 medium-sized shrimps). For $288, the dish was definitely way overpriced.

Situated right at the piers, the restaurant no doubt has a nice view, but given the food, the slow serving time, and the not-so unique view, I don't think this restaurant has enough to warrant a 2nd visit...at least I won't for sure.

Today is my birthday, my gf arranged this restaurant to celebrate my birthday. We ordered the champagne, appeitizer and main course and dessert and tea & coffee.

The happening was....we ordered the wine (HKD 300 Half bottle) & I did the testing. However, the wine is so bad. So therefore, we would like to change another wine and hope that they could recommend a bottle of good wine together with the main course.

The manger Gabriel came to us and asked us DISCOURTEOUSLY about the wine, we told him that the wine isn't good & asked him to recommend a better one. He just kept argrying with us UNMANNERLY and doesn't want to change another bottle. The whole situation was extremely dissapointed, I had a very UNFAVOURABLE birthday. I definitely will not recommend to anyone who want to have a good dinner and good time. II am sure that HK have many restaurants where serving with a good service and resonable price. The service of the manager definitely is UNACCEPTABLE.

We had our anniversary dinner there .
My hubby called to book a window table two weeks in advanced.
We have booked a table at seven but we arrived central at six so we called to ask if we can get the table at half six.
    They said its ok.
We arrived the restaurant at half six but there's none at the reception.
We waited for about fifteen minutes and the staff were busy doing preparation.

The restaurant was empty but they didn't take us to the window table but a table near the window.
We both tired and not bothered to change the table ..
We ordered some cocktails , seafood soup and pressed duck .
    The cocktails were okay.
The seafood soup was just okay as it's not creamy and thick.. And the worst thing was.. Got sand from the calm and mussels .. Disgusting!!
The pressed duck wad awesome!! The duck breast was very tender and delicious!!
And the charcoal grill duck leg was even the best! Crispy and juicy !
They were lot better than other French restaurant in hk!

The atmosphere was not great there.. The tables were packed and there was no privacy .. You can just grab the salt n pepper from the table next to you .. And it's quite odd to overhear what people say..
Definitely not a good place for fine dining nor romantic dinner..

It's a bit noisy and the service was not good indeed..

I've been there 2 times, first time was in September, one of my birthday dinners (Yes, I had the whole month celebration). This time, my pretty lady friend from Nanjing visiting HK and I took her there with another friend.
For my birthday dinner, first time there and it's impressive. From the entrance, I felt like I was entering another world, from busy Central to an exclusive and romantic place through the corridor.
Although the price was not that expensive, the service is great and offer a real fine dining experience. One of the waiters was studying hospitality management from Switzerland, where very famous for service training. He was the one serving one and introduce the menu with professional comments, not hard selling but you'll love to listen.
I tried the seafood soup, which was a WOW
    tongue
pieces of seafood in there, no cheating. The dried aged steak in blueberry cheese was so delicious, not healthy, but once a while, who cares. My partner ordered crab cake for appetizer, it's another Surprise, because it is full of crab meat, resfhly taste. Pasta was great. We had my favourite bottle of Shiraz,....so good. At the end, the staff song birthday song for me, felt so happy
    tongue

This time with my visiting friend, we had a bottle of white wine for our Happy Hour first outdoor. A bit chlling but it's so good to have such a beautiful night view by the harbour. It worths everything.
We had foie gras, my faviurite risotto, sdeafood soup, pasta and roasted pork....all are very nice. No disppointment!

Pleasant and relaxing Smile Aug 12, 2010

OK I admit it - I dine out far too much. I just got back from a very pleasant evening at Watermark.

My friend and I had not seen each other in some time so we started chatting and it was quite some time before we got around to ordering. The waiter approached us a few times before we eventually did manage it but was in no way pushy.

We each had a starter, main course and dessert with a bottle of white wine. Whether they gauged our preference for a relaxed dinner or were more taken up with the big group by the window, I don't know but the speed at which our food came was perfect for us to have a long chat (ie probably too slow for some).

I order pan seared foie gras, which came perfectly cooked and with some nice acidic apple to complement its richness. My friend had steak tartare which, surprisingly for a starter, came with chips (fries).

She followed that up with fish (I've forgotten which though) and I had scallops with some diced vegetables. Scallops were tasty and not overcooked (something often & easily done). When ordering I had asked the waiter if I would need to order an extra side dish and he correctly advised me that, since I had ordered a starter, I would have sufficient with the main dish itself.

Dessert was a lemon tart which was lovely and tart, as opposed to excessively sugary, & a small caremilised apple tart which we were told would take 25 minutes as it was cooked on the spot. Both were delicious.

Staff were not at all rushing us but, at that point we thought we had better leave as they were clearing up for the night.

Excelant evening Smile May 24, 2010

Went on busy Saturday night and was promptly seated by the window with a great view. It was so dark that we could not read the menus, and small clip on lights were brought on request.

Drinks arrived quickly, but had to ask three times for butter to go with the bread.

Shared a starter of crab cake followed by aged ribeye($390)and aged tenderloin steaks($328), which were perfect.

House wine at $75 was perfectly acceptable.

There was an Amex promotion when we went so we enjoyed a $214 discount, 20%, making the bill a very reasonable $966 which is very good value for a resteraunt of this quality.

    A disappointment Cries Apr 18, 2010

I went there for Sunday brunch recently, my first visit to this reataurant. It was only 1/3 full, which surprised me as I thought this would be a popular place for a relaxing Sunday afternoon as the restaurant offers a great view looking across to TST. Yes the view was great and then I realised why it did not draw a crowd. The food was mediocre. I had eggs benedict and it was only just acceptable. Then we went to the buffet table and the food was what you would expect from a lower end restaurant where you pay $98 for all you can eat. Not good to look at and tasted very average. So it was quite a disappointment.

Came to try their Sunday brunch. I asked to look at their menus before coming in. The hostess was a Chinese lady but she wasn't nice to me cause i was Chinese. I asked to be seated and right behind me was a couple with a Caucasian and an Asian woman. She told the waited to bring me to table 22. Then while i was being seated, the couple that was after me, came and sat in the table beside mine, which is the window seat. So i totally agree with the other reviewers below about the rascist and discriminating attitude of some of the people at this restaurant.

Thank goodness our server was very attentive and polite and did a good job. She was Filipino.

The brunch served simple food like gnocchi, harissa chicken, salmon (way they cooked it was very moist, not dry like most buffet places) and another white fish. Nothing fancy cause the brunch was just $298 or something per person which included a choice of eggs and fois gras. The view was wonderful. It was also very relaxing to sit on the couch outside.

I've had dinner here before and the steaks are wonderful. The kitchen team makes good food, but the team outside can be snobby.
