It' was my 3rd time to come to DAP. That night, we went there for birthday celerbration. The interier design is nice.

We chose Softshell crab and Prawn cocktail as appetizers.

The Sfotsheel crab looks attractive, but the taste is not bad

The prawn cocktail is just shrimp with tomato dressing. It doesn't taste so fresh indeed. And the ketchup taste like the normal one that we can buy in supermarket

Here comes the Salmon pie with asparagus.

The appearance is quite nice, the taste is quite good too. But the pastry is not crunchy, just like normal thick pie.

We also have some pasta dishes:

The pasta are not very impressive. The mushroom one is the most delicious one among all. Since I'm not a big fan of tomato sauce, the other 2 pasta dishes aren't so attactive to me.

I love the dessert platter the best. The tiny desserts look so cute! The taste is nice.

The service is quite good here, waiters are helpful especially when they were asked to help taking pictures.

Good restaurant hidden in TST Smile Nov 13, 2012

First off, it must be said that the management of this restaurant is very accommodating. My girlfriend and I stumbled across it simply because we were looking for French restaurants on the Kowloon side which offered free or low cost corkage, since we prefer to drink our own wines. Since one of our bottles was small I asked for a discount on their publicised $100/bottle corkage fee and the manager immediately offered to let us drink it for free. Furthermore when we arrived at the restaurant, the published tasting menu, at $950 for 2 people which was already decent, offered a $200 discount for HSBC card holders. Yet the manager offered to honour the discount regardless of card type or cash. This made the decision to go with the tasting menu pretty easy.

Food was of a good standard overall and therefore was good value for money. First course caesar salad for my girlfriend and smoked salmon for me, reasonable if not special.

Next came the pan-fried foie gras with apple chutney which on the one hand was a tiny portion (probably only half a normal portion) but on the other hand was excellently done with a perfect texture of crispiness on the outside and mouth-watering on the inside.

The soup course offered house Ministrone, which was chunky and quite tasty, and a scallop soup which was also reasonable.

The main courses were eye-catching and tipped the whole culinary experience onto the good side. My girlfriend had the rib-eye steak which turned out to be quite enormous - so large, in fact, that it was folded over. Rib-eye is never the softest but this beef was quite tender and cooked to the correct medium-rare level. My Lobster Thermidor was also delicious (a whole lobster, no cheapness here!), cooked as I like it so that the lobster meat is not overdone but the cheese has formed a crust. My mash potatoes also nice.

Lastly the dessert was a small selection of three items: a soufle which was good if you like that sort of thing (not my personal preference), a cheesecake which had a nice rich texture and a fruit brulee which was also created to a good standard. By this time we were quite full so the desserts perhaps did not get the attention they deserved.

The ambience of the restaurant was very nice for us - quiet and not too bright. The decor was quite appropriate considering the surroundings in an office building. We were given a corner table which added to the privacy but no tables were too close together, good spacing and feels roomy. The staff were all helpful - a few seemed to still be "learning the trade" but the manager himself was buzzing around making things right. I am surprised this restaurant is not more busy.

Lured by the coupon, I finally got a chance to try this restaurant.
I've seen the sign and banner of this restaurant quite a number of times, however, I have no clue where the exact location is.
Now, just get to know it's inside a commercial building.

I would say the atmosphere is quite comfortable. The restaurant was dimly lighted.
The decoration gave you a luxury feeling.
However, when you look closely to furniture. It's a bit worn out.

    Let's get back to food.
I remembered watching an interview of Mario Batali, chef of Lupa.
He described sometimes, all we have to do to make a dish good is to simplify it.
    I do agree.
I think simple stuff like garlic bread, mushroom soup and salmon salad, all you have to do is make it simple.
I am deeply impressed by the restaurant that they pay attention to details. The food stands out.

For the main course, my friend had steak. It's huge and he nearly couldn't finish it.
Steak is tender and juicy. Well done!

I had pawn spaghetti. The portion is more reasonable.
    The sauce is ok.

    Dessert Trio is another surprise.
I thought I couldn't finish it. However, the tiramisu is just adorable. The rich flavour refrained me from stopping.
    The pudding is also refreshing.
Not to mention the cheese cake. I don't know how to describe it, it's not too heavy and the sweetness is just about right.
I'm happy to end the lunch with this great set of dessert.
Only complaint: too much for lunch with all the dishes

    Conclusion:
    well done
I would definitely visit again if time permits.

Under a special occasion, we could enjoy a buffet dinner at the price $248+10% per person at DAP. Seeing the comments here are quite positive, which give me confidence to pay a visit. Surprised me that I had to make reservation for a table by three weeks eariler (since the dates I proposed were ALL FULL), I wonder it must be a very popular restaurant?

The first impression when I arrived the first floor of DAP, a strong terrible smell was spread out from toilet, which just locates at the end of the narrow corridor outside the restaurant. I wondered if the outside condition is such horrible, how good the quality of the food could be in the restaurant?

We were settled in a separate room in DAP, which looks quite sophisticated actually. I adore the Victorian style in the house. The semi dinner buffet is actually about unlimited filling of appetizers, desserts and wines. You could only choose one main course from the provided list.

To be honest, it’s actually quite disappointing of the limited choices for appetizer and dessert (I couldn’t eat too much though). Moreover, the speed of refilling is horribly slow... this strategy of DAP is smart. It claimed as ‘buffet’ but actually it is quite limited. The Salad green tasted fine, but that’s nothing to deal with the cooking skill of the Chefs from DAP. Fishes sashimi tasted ordinary, at least they were clean and not stink. I think the Shrimp cocktail is fairly good out of the rest, shrimp tasted simply fresh.

We had chosen roasted lamb and fried cod fish for our main courses. The lamb tasted good with the balsamic gravy, it’s well cooked that the texture of lamb is soft. The cod fish is my choice, it’s soft like melting. Too bad it’s a bit too small in piece though. The cod fish tasted fabulously gorgeous with the lemon butter sauce. Nice!

The environment here is actually not too bad but the quality of food is just a big contrast. The service here is also a big contrast. I see some whole-hearted friendly staffs while some are really arrogant and cool. I wouldn’t comment much how worst they were, you should check out and experience by yourself. I heard that quite a no. of staffs here are part-time base. Perhaps this’s one of the reasons why they didn’t work enthusiastically. Well, to conclude, main courses here are acceptable but for the parts of 'buffet' were ordinary and disappointing. Heard that the original price for this dinner is HKD500+. It must be kidding me cuz it totally doesn't worth the price and not reaching that level yet. Now we pay HKD200+ per person is just fairly acceptable.

Shopping with family in the Jordan area and looking for an eatery to lunch at when we came upon the lunch menu for DAP displayed outside the building where the restaurant is located. I had noted that the restaurant used to have a branch in Wanchai, but did not have a chance to try before it discontinued business.

The prices seemed reasonable so we decided the lunch there. Turns out they were just about to close for the afternoon when we appeared at the door, but service was polite and friendly, and they offered to accommodate us (without even being asked) before closing.

All 3 of us had the set lunch - starting with either the caesar salad with tandoori chicken pieces or the cream of watercress. There were quite a few selections for the mains - I ordered the beef short rib that the waiter recommended whilst my family members had pastas with pork slices.

The lettuce in the casear salad was fresh. The tandoori chicken was tender and heavily spiced, but that is how I like my tandoori chicken, so I really enjoyed it. I had a taste of the cream of watercress that my family ordered and it was nice - there was a strong watercress flavor without the "greenness" that usually accompanies this vegetable. The soup was of the right consistency and not over-salted. smile

The beef short rib that was recommended was very good. The flavor of the beef was strong, but not gamey, and the meat was tender and juicy. My family members who had a taste also enjoyed it. lol

I did not taste the pastas that my family ordered, but the feedback was that the dishes were decent.

Dessert came in the form of a sample platter of 3 different desserts, namely tiramisu, cheesecake and vanilla pannacotta. The tiramisu was lacking as it did not have sufficient coffee liqueur. The cheesecake served was of a dense texture, but the taste was pleasant - a nice complement to the rich coffee that accompanied the set meal. I am not a fan of vanilla nor pannacotta, but this dessert turned out to be the most outstanding of the 3. It did not have the milky taste that usually accompanies pannacottas, and the vanilla flavor was not overpowering.

The set meals were about HKD 100 each, so was fairly value for money. We enjoyed the food and warm service so much that we made another reservation for 2 days later to take the rest of the family there for lunch on the weekend.

On our second visit of the week, there were 5 of us. The service was as friendly. All of us wanted to order the short rib, but they only had 2 portions left, so some of us ordered other mains, namely the pan-fried fish selection and the roast of the day which was a corned beef steak. It turned out to be a blessing in disguise as the short rib was not as tender that day. The problem appears to lie with the cut of the meat, rather than the cooking as the beef was obviously not overcooked and still tasted great. The pan-fried fish was nicely done but not memorable. The corned beef steak was surprisingly good - tender and not over-salted.

The appetizers were the same as that available on our first visit and equally good. The dessert platter was great too, with a chocolate mousse in place of the tiramisu. The mousse was very rich, like eating melted chocolate. lol

The standard of cooking at this restaurant seems fairly consistent. I will visit again. smile

heard this restaurant for a while, finally picked a date to dine here.

    environment
    - setting was nice but table was small for 2 ppl
    - not very cozy, too dark, audio for background music - not quite good

    service - quick & polite

    food quality
    - portion was small
    - taste fair, orange juice...not fresh
    - liked dessert most
    - expensive with this quality, may be it's expensive mainly for the convenient location
    - a lot of options & able to accept request of less oily in spaghetti dishes

only 4 tables were occupied & not noisy.

First of all, the food is good. We have ordered a dinner set for two (a special tastng menu for HKB Visa card holder), the amount is adequate.
However, I think they need improvement in some "minor" details to make it a really good restaurant.
    1. When you sit down, you are just given the menu. The waitress does not ask you whether you want some drinks.
I ask for a bottle of mineral water, the bottle is opened already when it is taken to our table. Will you suspect that it is just plain tap water? Ha!
    2. A small plate of butter is missed when they serve the bread. !!
    3. After the first course/ appetitizer, the waitress put your knife and fork back on the table, to be re-used for the 2nd course. This is the first time I encounter this in a restaurant of such class. !! Come on, this is not a buffet dinner!!
    4. At the end, they serve coffee and tea first, and then the dessert is given to you. The dessert is put on a long plate, and you have to put your tea or coffee to one side. You get a feel of having Chinese dinner, where everything is put on the table.
We suspect that the management of the restaurant want to do 2 round of business in one night, so thye would rather not to ask you for a drink at the beginning, and serve the desser quickly, so you can leave as fast as possible.
The decoration is to mimic a European restaurant. The price reflects it. Unfortunately, the service reminds you of a HK fast food chain style.

After reading all the comments here, we decided to have a try a Dap. For a dinner of 2 for almost 900, I was expecting a quality of a restaurant like those in SOHO or simply more. So I must say I am quite disappointed. This is a merely a high ended chinese style french cuisine. The food was average, we ordered the set dinner, not much choice to pick from. Soup of the day was Cream of mushroom only. The portion of the dishes were small, we ordered steak and fish as our main course. It was really average, in fact, they didn't even ask how we would like the steak to be cooked, until we remembered and reminded them.
Having been to so many places in SOHO and central area, highly recommend for those really looking for real western/ french food, this is not the one. A random lunch at SOHO of those for 99 bucks only, you can get better quality than that. But for a nice quiet place, it is a good choice. Well, not even good for big crowds, since it's way too quiet and dark there.

could definitely go back again Smile Apr 01, 2009

my dad and i were going to have dinner by ourselves so i checked out what's good around the neighbourhood, i decided to go to dap cos i felt like something european and i lurrrrrve foie gras.

my dad went for the set dinner ($230-ish?) with the risotto, and i opted for the lobster bisque ($76?) and tenderloin with foie gras in balsamic vinegar reduction (or something along those lines, $265-ish?)

the appetisers offered variety (caesar salad, salmon in citrus dressing, pate on toast and some kind of stuffed zucchini) and was cleanly presented. it wasn't anything breathtaking but was well done.

soups - cant remember what came with the set dinner as i didn't have any, but the lobster bisque was good. rich in flavour, elavated with a bit of alcohol (brandy?) and cream. the 3 or 4 bits of lobster meat was average, not particularly fresh but it was only 70 odd dollars, so i was happy.

mains - the set dinner was a mushroom risotto, which was good. creamy and rich. the proportion was nice, not overbearing. my tenderloin was great, i asked for medium rare and it came out perfect - red and bloody in the middle, yum yum! the foie gras was a little disappointing after reading all these raving reviews here. it was ok but wasn't crispy. but overall it was bloody good for just $265-ish. i have had so many inedible steaks in the past that charged around that, if not more.

dessert - the set dinner even came with a mini dessert platter!! all for the price of just $230! what a bargain. from memory i think it came with some kind of tiramisu, mango pudding and a cream-filled pastry. i only had the tiramisu and the mango pudding, which were both good. it was presented well with bits of pistachios around the plate - i love pistachios so an extra point for that.

the restaurant _was_ a bit too dark, probably more appropriate in a club (but i think that's what it is after dining hours?) - it'd be much nicer if the place was a bit brighter. i cant remember if there was a candle on the table, probably not or it wouldn't have been so dark, but i think it'd be a nice touch.

the decor was awesome for a restaurant of this price range, the service was okay, nothing spectacular and def room for improvement but i have been to countless restaurant that have far more inferior food and services that charge similar, if not more, so i seriously have no complaints about this place.

for around $330 each (drinks and service charge included), you get good, quality food and lots of it! remember you're not paying $1000 for food alone here, so it's not fair to expect the food to be exciting and memorable like you would at some michellin-star restaurant. (we even got a $100 coupon on the street so it worked out to only about $250 each - seriously, what more could you ask for??)

it's a nice place to have a decent, smart-casual dinner with friends and family. i'll def go back again sometime - and honestly, this is not a comment i give lightly.

So far, I have a very good impression about Dap until I went last nite...I would say it's a disappointing experience as my expectation is higher than what they could offer. I went there with my friend and we order a full course meal + the fettucine with lobster & prawn.

The appetiter was fine but the "French onion soup" was tasteless and very watery. It's nothing closed to authentic...then it came the fettucine, I will say the lobster meat & the prawn were nice yet the texture of the pasta was no good. I wonder they tried to make it 'al dente' but failed...the fettucine and the sauce were completely on their own!

We have no complaint about the the Wagyu steak as it's been prepared to perfection. To be fair, the ambience and service are excellent...just the food needs improvement considering the price they charge.

I haven't been DAP for couple months. I found that there are some bad comments here. It was wonder if it's really that bad because my last visit was so satisfactory. So, I went there with my buddies to check it out last week.

Yes, the lighting was kinda dark but it doesn't bother us. I don't know why it seems we're more behave and "pretend" to be gentle under such lighting. Maybe that's why it made the environment still not that noisy even there were full house on that night. Generally the customers are nice, gentle and good looking (bcoz of lighting again?! hehe!).

Food still as good as before. Our favorite are still Angus beef, suckling pig and Foe Gras. I don't really like beef even at Ruths Chris. But the Angus beef at DAP is so tender, juicy and beefy, unlike those beef at King of steak king (tender but fake). Suckling pig is so crispy and tasteful. It's really worth to wait for 1/2 hour or so. Highly recommend!! Foe Gras is another designated order. Just $50 is really valuable. It's soft but not solid. Juicy but no too oily. The outside is crispy but not overcooked. I can guarantee it's really goose liver unlike some restaurants which use duck liver to cheat!

About the attitude of the servers, I don't see any problem with them. They're not too experienced but they're nice and attentive. Since the bread is so good, while we're waiting for the main dishes, we finished all of the bread. We feel embarrassed to ask for more. Meanwhile, the waiter seems like he can read our mind and approaches us to ask us if we want to have some more. So impressed!!

The only thing got point deducted is the ice cream in the chocolate dessert platter. It's a bit melted. Don't know why but it's no big deal to us because we're already so full and satisfied.

    Double thumbs up!!!

I went to this restaurant "dap" for a family gathering in 10 days ago. It was a bad bad bad experience for us.

Point 1: The restaurant is too dark that I really cannot read the menu (please note that I'm young, trendy, and like to go to restaurant with nice atmosphere).

Point 2: The service is very poor. Hey, this is a french restaurant, suppose we should eat slow to enjoy the food. However, the waitress always took away my unfinished food (without ask me "finish or not").

Point 3: The service is so bad that the waitress made my coat to the floor, and no apologize, also did not pick it back to me. She just looked at me & looked at my coat on the floor.

Point 4: When we asked for other drink except coffee/tea/lemon water for the dinner set. The waitress' attitude is awful to response.

I think those waitresses did not take any service training, and also did not work for any high-class restaurants.

It is a very poor experience for paying $500 per person for such low-class service restaurant!!!!!

Really hate to wait for 1-2 hours for seating at Chinese restaurant (yum-cha) with my family on Sunday morning. So, we went to DAP to have brunch on last Sunday. Very fresh seafood platter, beef is tender, angel hair is soft..... What I like the most is the dessert. Rich but not too sweet! The place is nice decor and quiet. The customers are gentle and middle class-like. It's a good place to spend couple hours to chat with family and enjoy fine good with reasonable price. It's an alternative place if you can't find a place for "yum-cha". The only negative comment I have is that I wish the restaurant can be a little bigger and have a better view......maybe I'm too greedy! smile
The manager just told me that they'd have promotion for dinner started from Sept. Free drink and dessert / soup for ordering a la carte. Yeah! I'll go there again for sure!

    20/7 (Fri) dinner & result

    Good~
    1) Not crowd - fine dinning is the best
    2) Cozy decoration - suit for couple or lovers perfectly
    3) Good location - easy arrival near MTR

    Improvement~
    1) Price - reasonable in Jordan, but more expensive than C'est Bon.
    2) Main 9 course - Comparison with C'est Bon seem small portion of appretizer, sorba & dessert.

    Suprise~
    1) Receive $100 coupon for next dinner use
    2) Receive lunch coupon for next lunch use
    3) Receive drink coupon for karaoke use
