1) Bread= It was ordinary and not good 2)Foie Gras 鹅肝= THE BEST DISH IN THIS RESTAURANT, The outer part was crunchy and tasty, not burnt at all, i love it, and the inside was hot and it melted in my mouth! 3)Mushroom Soup= Not good, too much olive oil and too much chunks in it. Not worth 4) Sitr fry Crab with pepper= It was the second best dish! I LOVE IT! the crab meat was hot and the timing was perfect. The pepper flavor was so tasty. 5)60% cooked lamp steak= it was good, tasty, smelled nice. Timing was good and it had delicious mashed potato under it. VERY GOOD 6) Beef steal 80% cooked= Not good. not worth. I told them to cook it 80% but it ended up with 50%. The texture was bad. though the mash potato was very good! 7) A Mango Napoleon= Very tasty and the layers were nicely done with good texture. But the mango was too raw. It was soo sour. 8) Chocolate Melting Cake with a vanila ice-cream= Too ordinary but it was okay. THE BEST WAS THE 鹅肝 FOIE GRAS IT WAS SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO GOOD! THUMPS UP! AND THE STIR FRY CRAB IN PEPPER!

Having heard and read some very good comments on Bonheur, I finally managed to book a table here after a few failed attempts. I wanted to test it out before coming for dinner so it was a visit with much anticipation. The operators was most courteous on the phone when I made the reservation 5 days ago, and was equally so when they called me on the morning to confirm the booking. The Pemberton is not difficult to find but the building also has a number of eateries so the lifts can be quite jammed during lunch hours. The restaurant has the entire floor to itself. To my surprise, the tables are placed very close together, in fact too close for any sort of private conversation, be it of a personal or business nature. It is also precisely because of this and the choice of the decor that the whole place appears very noisy. I had to make a dash to the toilet before ordering. Again, it was barely acceptable - small and borderline hygienic. The menu was casually printed out on a piece of poor quality A4 paper but had a good variety nonetheless. There was a choice between an appetizer and a soup; and a selection of main courses - pork chop, steak, fish, risotto with crab meat and a couple of others that I have forgotten. To finish off, the menu also gave a good selection of desserts but at a price. The bread arrived first with a small plate of olive oil and vinegar to share - I was a bit put off by this. The bread was something over the counter, stale but heated up. This wasn't a nice way to impress new patrons. Between us, my friend and I had both the appetizer (parma ham) and the soup (pumpkin) - nicely presented but the aroma/taste was nothing to write home about. My friend had the pork chop as the main course and I had the risotto with crab meat. Same again, nicely presented but neither of which was impressive. Both of us also opted for something from the list of desserts, and coffee and tea. Neither of us could finish the dessert. I had the trifle but it was too sour and the fruits were out of a can; my tea was just bland. My friend politely refused to give any comments on her dessert and the coffee - silence spoke volumes in this case. Perhaps all the talk about the food here had me started off with a misplaced expectation. Honestly, there are better joints in Sheung Wan in terms of quality, and in terms of value for money. This restaurant has sorely missed the mark on both accounts on this visit. I don't think I will return. Table Wait Time: 0 minute(s)

We chose this place because of the free corkage which was a good idea as we had more than 10 bottles that night. The place is in a nice building but unfortunately was under renovation and we had to navigate through the maze and change lifts to get up there. The place is cozy and the tables just a touch too close to the others, but then they had a few big parties that night (the table perpendicular to ours had 16, we had 12) so that's excusable. The only thing that I could fault them was that they did not serve tap water, insisting that theirs is not filtered and despite our protest that we don't mind at all. I opted for some boiled water in a cup and sipped on it throughout the night. The dinner menu, although called a set menu, had enough choices to please everyone, but note there is no vegetarian option for the main course. They also have specials that are not listed, such as the oysters, the lobster (they only allocated 3 lobsters to our table which was all snapped up pretty quickly), and mussels in white wine cream sauce that proved to be a big dish of bivalves in a tasty soup. The bread was soft, moist, and dense enough to be chewy, which is how I like them. The onion bread had slices of onion embedded in the dough, the cheese one had burnt crusty cheese as a topping, and the focaccia had a good strong herbal taste to it. They were only able to refill the cheese and focaccia bread as they had run out of onion bread by 7:30pm. We ordered different things on the item and everything lived up to its expectations. Nothing was overpowering, the whole dish was well balanced and the composition of ingredients interesting and aesthetically pleasing. All was cooked to a very high standard and the seasoning was done to perfection. The only 2 dishes that I would comment on are the mushroom soup (too thick and clumpy, my friend left hers standing for a few minutes and it became a mud-like texture), and the souffle, where the flavours (butterscotch, ginger etc) could not mask the fact that the souffle mix was too eggy, foamy (in a bad way), and bland. It tasted like sugar flavoured soap suds. The staff were generally friendly but curt when they're busy, but overall service was prompt and efficient.

Group of four went for dinner. We were attracted by the restaurant's "no corkage fee" policy, as we like to bring our own wine rather than pay 300% markups. When we booked, no early seatings were available so we got a table for 8:45. Suited us fine. Staff was friendly and welcoming on arrival. The maitre d' who took our order was extremely knowlegeable -- his descriptions of the food made each dish sound scrumptious. And indeed, the vast majority of our food was wonderful. The only small minus was that the foie gras, which should be done until it is cooked, but still soft, was a bit overdone -- crispy foie gras! Everything else was wonderful. The chef inclines to strong flavors, so the mushroom soup had a lovely, outspoken mushroom flavor. The beef carpaccio tasted of fresh beef (not the inside of a fridge), and the clam soup was nice and garlicky. We drank all our wine and had a great time. Will definitely go back. The rack of lamb--to be enjoyed with a nice shiraz or cab sauv. Table Wait Time: 0 minute(s)

After reading the review of this restaurant in openrice, i tried it last Friday with a friend. I ordered 煎鵝肝 - good portion, 外脆內軟 Fish Soup - 好鮮昧 龍蝦 - not on menu, a waiter introduced to me when i placed order. They offer grilled or 芝士焗, while i was thinking, the waiter offered half grilled and half 芝士焗, very delicious and good service 芒果拿破崙 - generous portion of mango, very delicious My friend ordered Beef Carpaccio - my friend said the beef is good Mushroom soup - looked concentrated with good ingredients Rib Eye - I tried some from my friend, very tender and juicy Pana Cotta - very smooth We are both pleased with the food and we finished all. Btw, the cheese bread was very good too. The staff are friendly. I saw a young couple in the next table who weren't sure what to order, a waiter explained the menu to them in good detail. I will definitely re-visit this restaurant. Dinner for 4-course is $388 + 10%, but we also ordered a bottle of water and a cup of coffee (my friend). It's also good that this restaurant does not charge cockage. Recommended Dish(es):

Those who frequent the Central and Sheung Wan area must have heard of the establishment Bonheur which serves upscale French cuisine at relatively reasonable price or perhaps you like to call it fine dinging at affordable prices or whatever you like to call it. Many friends of mine and many from the foodie community recommended me to come pay a visit and so I did with my friend M in celebration of my birthday. However, either we have overly high expectation or simply it did not live up to what we have been told. We were the first to arrive and were greeted by ... 5 wait staff. The place was still filled with bleach or chlorine smell from their cleaning I guess. The environment was clean and minimalist, creating a rather comfortable setting. The set menu offered quite a number of selections in terms of appetizers as well as main courses. The staff was kind enough to introduce / describe voluntarily every single item on the menu slowly in minute details to a point that I really want to ask him to stop! There wasn't much point to read out what was written on the menu to be honest ... anyhow, we sat through the description announcement and continued to study the menu by ourselves. I ordered the Seared Scallop with Fennel. What happened to my scallop? The precious scallops have been cut thinly in half, one in each corner of the plate hiding underneath the melting orange paste they call Uni. The scallops were sliced rather thin to get the really texture out of it. The greens / salad was rather plain, lacking of dressings. Disappointing. My friend ordered the Pan-seared Foie Gras, Lychee Liquor Sauce and I got to try some as well. It was very well prepared in my humble opinion, rich in flavors and mushy but tender-y texture of the right thickness. I was happy without the sauce. Mushroom soup was fair, pretty creamy and smooth to the texture but the diced mushroom seemed to be from canned mushroom for some reasons. I can be wrong so please go ahead and try it yourself. The shrimp bisque (yeah shrimp and not lobster if I recall correctly) my friend ordered seemed very rich and strong. I did not try any because I am no fan of bisque, I say pass! As for the main course, Char grilled US Prime Black Angus Beef Steak with Bearnaise Sauce. The marks looked very nice but it was overcooked (med well instead of med rare) and only hints of beef flavor! A bit dry and tough as well. On the other hand, the Char grilled US Kuro Buta Pork Rack with Sauce Forestiere my friend ordered was way better than expected. Tender and somewhat juicy as well. If I return, I would order the pork rack for sure! Thumbs up on this one! I have to say that this Mile Feuille of Mango dessert was wonderful indeed, the best surprise for the night. The individual layers of pastry seemed to be very thin, flaky and very crisp on every bite. (still not as flaky as the Almond Croissant from LE SALON DE THÉ de Joël Robuchon unfortunately) Together with the mangoes (and plenty of them indeed), it was a delightful and refreshing dessert. (plus I need my daily intake of fruits haha) It was rather difficult to top the Mile Feuille of Mango, but the Earl Grey Panna Cotta with Raspberry Coulis was by no means bad in my opinion. A stronger earl grey flavor would be nice. The presentation alright but I personally dislike the use of those semi-transparent plate for some reasons. Then again, I am just being too picky. Likes: * Pan-seared Foie Gras, Lychee Liquor Sauce - rich in flavors and mushy in texture * Mile Feuille of Mango - plenty of sweet mangoes and very crisp and flaky pastry layers * No corkage charge for wines and Champagne Dislikes: * Seared Scallop with Fennel - flimsy scallops and too thinly sliced to sort our the texture of it. * overcooked steak and lack of beef taste (very nice marks though) Avg Spending: HKD 300 - 500 per person Original Blog Post: http://jason-bonvivant.blogspot.com/2010/02/bonheur.html

Had lunch here with a friend. The food was good. Just as good as dinner. Seared Steak Salad x2 King Prawn Rissotto French roasted spring hen on potato avec curry sauce The steak salad was well presented and had good texture, like a thicker version of steak cappaccio served with rocket leaves, cream and balsamic vingegar. The comment on King prawn risotto from my friend was that it was a bit undercooked, even for al dente. Strong scent of saffron though. King prawn was aromatic and fresh. I had the spring hen. Marinated with herbs, roasted and served with light western curry sauce. The sauce was light enough to add a buttery touch yet not to overpower the hen half, which was very tender. We shared a tiramisu, served in its own bowl and had been infused with a lot of liquor. This place never dissapoints. For this price, thats even better. jenniedeli (Non-member) | Ordered 4-course dinner set ($388+10%): scallop with uni, tomato soup, rib-eye & chocolate fondant. scallop with uni: problem with temperature of the dish, simply doesn't taste right. tomato soup: strongly recommended by the waiter, but it's way too salty & thick for my liking. rib-eye: the rib-eye itself is not up to standard. The lower-priced rib-eye from City'Super would have tasted better. chocolate fondant: the chocolate is overly bitter, not like that used in the usual chocolate fondant. The only good thing about this restaurant is that no corkage is charged on wine and champagne. My brother came into town to visit me~ So I brought him to the best value French restaurant for a nice dinner~ I have been to this restaurant for numerous times. For our dinner we ordered: - Pan seared foie gras ~ crispy skin with soft and melting center. Nicely paired with the sauce and some light green - Char-grilled steak ~ well control with the temperature. The char grill flavour enhanced the taste of the beef. Also, the cut and quality of the beef are very nice too~ But I forgot if this is Australian or American beef. - rack of lamb ~ the best is to order medium for rack of lamb. Again, the chef done an exceptional job to prepare the lamb as medium but still hot when it is serve to our table. - ginger souffle ~ order this dessert early and they will time it perfectly to make sure it is ready when u finished the meal~ It was strong in fresh ginger flavour but not too spicy. It was not too sweet too~ the souffle was nicely done. The quality here are always exceptional. The picture speaks for the each dish. Also, the free corkage is always a plus. Our nice meal end with a nice coffee too~ The coffee actually surprise me~ Nice bean with a great layer of oil on the top of the black coffee. Another nicely done~

My friend and I went to bonheur to try out its lunch set today. There were four choices with Lamb Chob ($148), Steak ($128), Fish of the Day ($108), Roasted French Chicken ($108) and Saffron Risotto with Uni ($108). I had the Risotto while he chose French Chicken. The overall experience was great, just that sometimes the waiters were not attentive enough that it took me sometime to ask them for the bill. But I would love to come back for lunch or dinner next time
