    as this shop

is one of the famous shop around this area, I've got chance to buy various cakes at last in a morning: I bought at least 8 kinds of cakes which u can see from the shelf to my colleagues before I get back to the office, the roast-cakes have various texture but the most impressive one is "sweet-corn cake",

    it's really elastic type

like chewing-gum with hot & tasty veg. & light ingredient inside the cake, yummy & attractive one! So I buy one again in the following evening when I've another chance bypass this area !tongue
One of my collection is red-bean cake:

    the cake is a little bit too hard outside cover with layers of chinese style pastry though it's non-oily & the red-bean is not too sweet ; while the others highlight have rich & heavy meat ingredients which should be fond of "meat-lover";
lady-boss is so kind to me : she give me in good price (a little bit discount)shocked when I bought that variety in that early morning when assume I was the first customer that day! When I curious about their kitchen

& take a snapshot, she is openminded & I can see workers having their busy job for the freshness cakes day by day

    Recommended Dish(es):  燒米餅 (sweet-corn cake)

I arrived at the shop around 2030h. I tried their "Siu Beng Wong" and a custard cream puff. I was too hungry so completely forgot to take photos.

    1. "Siu Beng Wong" (HKD 13) - This is pretty good, even though it was not freshly out of the oven, so it was only slightly warm. Not sure if they would heat it up if you ask. They cut it in half for you. The pork is mixed with chives and is quite flavored, not too fatty, and blends well with the dough overall. Think of this as Chinese pizza. smile

    2. Custard cream puff (HKD 6) - My first bite had no custard. I thought that odd, so I looked inside the hole I had just made. There was only a small amount of custard to one side of the puff. Probably no more than a tablespoon. The inside of the fist sized puff was 75% empty. huffyhuffyhuffy Maybe I'm just lucky, or that's what you get for HKD 6.

May go again as there are other offerings, but I'm probably going to stay away from the puffs.

There's usually a line on the weekends but it's such an amazing snack that I always go back.

The funny thing is that I always get the same thing - the big pork beng. It's juicy (sometimes too juicy that it will leak out all over you), big and super yummy. Plus, it's incredibly cheap ($10) and filling.

What more can you ask for?

Unfortunately, I have a friend who is pretty sure they got food poisoning from there.....but I haven't!

This shop is very famous in Mongkok.Last August,I finally could try 燒餅皇 there.

    燒餅皇
    燒餅皇

It was hot and tasty. The meat on it was fleshy and delicious.

I tried武大郎the second time I went there. There was a thick layer of meat in it.The meat was juicy!I also appreciate the shop for its maintainance of low price.10 dollars can buy happiness!

Snacktime in Mongkok Smile Jan 17, 2011

If you're tired after a few hours wandering around in Mongkok and in need of a quick snack to tide yourself over until dinner, stroll over to Dundas Street where there are a whole line of food shops waiting for you to try.

I've seen a number of places open and close as the fads come and go, but Man Ga International is one place that is consistently strong. This takeaway-only storefront specializes in northern Chinese buns/biscuits with whimsical Chinese names. The signature "Shao Bing Huang" is a flat biscuit with pepper-flavored pork on top. The "Pepper Bun" tastes similar, but is a bun with vegetable and peppered-pork filling. Both are my personal favorites and make for a cheap and filling snack for only 10 HKD.

pipping hot chinese pancakes Smile Dec 07, 2010
Share with MessengerShare on TwitterShare on Facebook
The ah je at the store said there was a tray fresh off the oven and so i swiftly handed ten dollars for a piece of 'chinese pancake king'. It was so huge in size that i had to cut in into fours!

it was pipping hot and gave off a tempting aroma. it was thin and not too crispy, but the meat toppings were soft and full of flavour. the pancake made your fingertips oily but it tasted just perfect, making you forget about the awful amount of oil used to brush the pancakes before baking.

at ten dollars per piece this was a bargain indeed - and i am determined to try its 'mo dai long' upon my next visit. smile

Worth trying Smile Sep 26, 2010
Share with MessengerShare on TwitterShare on Facebook
Food is good here, it is really worth trying !
I have tried the most famous one today, and tried some of them before !
However, it seems like the inside ingredients are all the same !
If they are not the same, they are more or lesss the same.

What i recommend is , not to have too much at one time. Try different type of their product in separate days. Hence you will find the interest of the shop !

like their 牙擦蘇 alot. i usually go to the one in PO LAM CHEUNG KWAN O.
1st time to try 牙擦蘇 in MONG KOK Store, thought it would be even nicer than the one PO LAM. because MONG KOK is the original store.
But.... very disappointed. 牙擦蘇 was so cold and dry.
The 牙擦蘇 in PO LAM tastes better, a lot better
and the sales @ PO LAM store are nicer too.. =)

    $10 for a delicious bun Smile Nov 02, 2009
Share with MessengerShare on TwitterShare on Facebook

this is a small shop for selling takeaway foods .
without any outstanding appearance & small in size ,
you would easily miss it when you come across the street
just as I missed the shop a few times when I walked along the street
If I didn't learn of this shop from openrice , I would just miss the chance
of tasting a delicious chinese style bun . tongue

    bowl武大郎
it looked as if it was just taken out from the oven
the bun was hot & fresh , the texture was soft
the meat inside was large & thick ,
it was juicy enough , spicy but won't be unbearable for most ppl
believe me or not , for the price of only $10 ,

you can hardly buy a burger which is as good as this bun tongue

For $10, 武大郎 was a pretty good snack. The pie was hot, slightly greasy and very satisfying. Almost think of it as a Chinese hamburger. Pretty good value for money and a between meal snack
