Apart from The Lounge at JW’s I have always wanted to try Marriot Café. Marriot Café is slightly cheaper than The Lounge, however the range at Marriot Café is more Chinese. The environment is noisier than The Lounge, which is expected, because there are more locals there for Chinese cuisine. The carvery had chicken, which was good for people who do not eat beef. The chicken tasted like Tandoori chicken and there were about eight different sauces. The green one (mustard with tarragon) was the best.
Refills of food and drink were faster here than The Lounge, however the choice of drinks that were included were not as good as The Lounge.

Reservation : 2030 - 2230 Buffet : Many fresh seafoods ! Refreshing Dessert ! I'm not very interested in seafoods, but this time I tasted quite many ! Cooked lobster and razor clam are great ! Long-leg crab is really fresh! Sashimi and cooked small abalone are ok. However, steamed fish and cooked goose hand is not very good. Dessert : I tried two award winners, one is white chocolate cake ------- it is surprisingly refreshing! Yet the other is just ok...its teste just a bit too complicated. I tried the Lemongrass jelly too -------------------- it tastes great and yet far more refreshing ! Recommended Dish(es):

Fantastic buffet overall, with the service, atmosphere and cleanliness being especially wonderful. In fact, I only have two main criticisms of this buffet. First, the buffet quality is great overall but I would appreciate even more variety. Secondly, the price on weekends/public holidays [dinner buffet] is rather too expensive. Apart from that, I certainly enjoyed the buffet (and admired its efficient use of space for the food, not for the customers!). Overall: 8.5 out of 10 (mainly because of the price)

I am a fan of this place... even joined the membership~ ^O^ B and I had tried the tea buffet in the lounge which is free when join the membership... but we didn't like it there... so I had to try really hard to convince B that the Tea Buffet at cafe is different... haha~ finally he gave in... wakaka~~~ The atmosphere is cramped and a lot of noise... but that didn't affect my appetite~ Lots of variety and I don't normally try the congee... but after i tried this time and fell in love... hee hee~~~ i put lots of scallop, sweet corn and rotten duck egg in there... yummy~~~ sushi is normal, hot dish is good specially they have the "fish stomach" (Fa Gau) 花膠...

It's been 6 months since we came to this buffet. The Marriott is one of the hotels nearest our office and among the Pacific Place hotels, we think the Cafe has the best buffet to offer at lunch time. A colleague told me that recently there was a food poisoning outbreak after some diners ate here, maybe that's why there are no longer raw oysters and in place a few new dishes of hot seafood. Dishes deserving mentions include: Mild Curry Lobster. The claws were big and the curry sauce mild and creamy. The flesh were firm and sweet and I had 3 big ones. I saw another diner with a really huge one. I had some rice with the thick and wonderful sauce Slipper lobster braised in sauce was an uncommon dish at an international buffet. The flesh is half way between a prawn's and a lobster's. Though it was interesting, it's was not worth eating too many pieces to save space for other dishes Mantis prawn was also on offer. This was fried in spicy salt. Although this type of prawn is really popular in HK, I am not good at getting the flesh out and so only had one. The restaurant is very considerate and has a set of scissors and cracker on each table to help with claws and shells. The Tom Yam soup was very spicy, hot and delicious. I managed not to scoop the oil on the top and had 2 bowls as it was so authentic. So those were dishes to go for and for some dishes worth forgetting: The roast beef is always not the best quality. Everyone who tries will comment that it is not spectacular and is very raw. The cheese selection is sad. Only a Brie looking round and a piece of orange looking cheddar. This upset my cheese loving colleagues as the effort was poor and led to a discussion of what a good selection should be. This time, I was so filled up with seafood, I hardly had any dessert or vegetables. The ice cream selection is from Hagen Daas and the mini apple crumble was good enough. They have new coffee mugs which are tall and thin, very elegant and nice to keep the drinks hot. At $260 + 10% for such a good selection of food, it is one of the best lunches I can find in our area. panda1111 (Non-member) | I tried this place 3 times within this 4years. 4 years ago the foods was ok, but 2 years ago with my 3rd tried. The foods is not good and not fresh. Therefore I tell myself not to come again if I have to pay. This time I come again because of Company dinner, but I expected that the food was not good. After I tried as expected, nothing was good except the ice-cream. The Oyster is very thin, small, only salty water taste and not fresh The small Lobster is okie, but the prawn, long leg crab is totally not fresh Only few kind of Sashimi you can choose, and only Salmon, squid and red fish. Dessert was too sweet and not good enough as in a 4 or 5 stars hotel. Not many foods you can choose to eat after the 2nd round. If you had tried other 4or 5 stars hotel, you will know Marriot's food is very very very low quality, not fresh and BAD.It only can reach 3 stars hotel quality. That's why few weeks ago there are people went in hosipital after the buffet. It is obviously not worth to pay $4xx , even $3xx for this low quality buffet. This is the most BAD buffet hotel I've ever tried within this 4 years. Recommended Dish(es):

Have a holiday in weekday and suddenly think of this restaurant. Called to reserve table but insuccessful (as expected, it's already fully booked). Anyway, we're in waiting list and arrive there at around 6pm. As someone cancel booking and we can get inside at around 6.20pm. However, the waitress tell we have to return table at 8pm. Anyway, we're happy to have the ad hoc dinner buffet. Food: Hm.... actually no big surprise, probably due to over-popular of the buffet. However, the dessert and service do impress me. Hnh (Non-member) | We were attracted by all the praises on the seafood section on Open Rice and selected Marriott Cafe for a birthday celebration. Perhaps it's wiser not to have high hope on anything. Seafood was the one most disappointed us ! Quality of shashimi was OK. Crab, not much taste ! Smoked salmon and raw oyster were not fresh at all ! Despite the above, we enjoyed the rest of the food ! Fresh vegetable salad was good ! The sauce with pepper was worth a try ! Hot food like Hainan Chicken with rice, steamed fish, mushroom with tofu (the best), creamy spinach, steamed broccoli, roast beef were all tasty ! The best part of the buffet was dessert ! The freshly-made pancake with mango or strawberry was mouthwatering. Hot bread pudding was good. A small cake like napolean cake was delicious ! There's one cake, named white chocolate cake. It's half cake and half white chocolate. The cake part was very dry while the cholcolate part was like mousse. You must eat them together and the taste was great ! Lastly, the tall hot coffee at the end of the meal was quite OK ! One thing about the cafe setting, the tables were too close. We heard other people's conversations during our whole meal ! Marks deducted. Recommended Dish(es):

We had to book well over 2 weeks in advance for this place. Normally we go to Cafe Too next door but lately, quality has gone down, so we decide to try Marriott Cafe. When we walked it, we were kind of surprised to see such a small area of food, thus thinking, so few choices. I start off, as usual, w/ soup : the chinese soup was some sort of herbs and western soup for mexican corn soup. I got the chinese soup : it was good, you can really taste all the ingredients used to make it, ie, not just meat & water taste. Then it was off to the seafood section : got some salmon sashimi, lobster and peeled shrimp - it was all good. I don't want to list ALL the stuff I ate but I pretty much stayed in the seafood area. The oysters were a bit small but fresh enough. The dessert was very good, esp. the blueberry cheesecake !! The apple pie crumble is also worth a mention. Only had a few hot dishes; the hainan chicken was very good although the accompanying rice was on so-so. We were overall quite impressed w/ the quality of the seafood (fresh & tasty); the soup was able to maintain its taste (soup at other places tend to get watered down as the evening progresses), food is still being replenished towards the end of the evening (found a whole new apple crumbler at 9:30pm !!!). However, one thing we didn't like was the seating area - it's quite small and the tables are therefore, close togther. We will definitely go back. RIght now, there's 25% off w/ HSBC platinum visa so even better !! Recommended Dish(es):

It has been my favorite place for tea buffet in the past years.I had tea buffet yesterday with my friend and found that the standard of the food has gone down tremendously. Although the buffet costs $198 which is quite expensive compared with other tea buffet in town, I still preferred going there cos of my good experience there in the past. However, when i arrived, i found that the varieties of food was limited. There were even curry fishballs for a buffet which costs around $200. Moreover, the dessert was not good also. There were only three to four types of cakes and for my favorite --- Creme Brulee, there was no refill. I really won\t go there again next time. Spending per head: Approximately HKD220

Mrs Chan (Non-member) | Our family (seven people) had an enjoyable lunch buffet at Marriott Cafe yesterday. In average, it's HK$275 per head (with the discounts offered by the HSBC Platinum credit card). Many dishes were very good. The more impressed dishes include the oysters, the deep-fried prawn (still very hot, cooked in Chinese style), the beef steak, etc. The salmon sashimi is almost 1cm thick. The presentation of ALL the desserts was wonderful. My dad liked them very much because he thought they were all sweet enough. However, I think only old people or sweet-lovers would like these. They were all too sweet to me. I've reflected this thought to the waiter when he asked us whether the food was okay. He said he would reflected this to the chef, and asked us to check if it have been improved next time. The best dessert was the New York cheese cake. Very rich, we just tried a bite because we were full. If I was not so full, I would have eaten more for such a good piece. My bf and I tried the dinner buffet ($330 + 10%) there in June, 2005. We were very disapointed with its food quality. Compared to "Grand Cafe" of Grand Hyatt (even Marriot is $20 cheaper), in my opinion, Grand Hyatt's is very very much better. Grand Gyatt serves 上湯lobsters (hot dish), but Marriot serves only cold lobsters. To me, it is a great difference. Marriot's 羊扒is not hot enough, and Marriot does not provide any mint sauce/ jelly! (Grand Gyatt's 羊扒super delicous!) If you wanna celebate birthday there, the only good is that you can ask Marriot to give you a slice of cake with a "name". Should anyone look for high-quality buffet, I would rather highly recommend "Grand Cafe" of Grand Hyatt ($350 + 10%).
