It was out of my expectation that to have a humble bowl of noodle for a late lunch at 3:30pm one had to wait for ten minutes standing outside the shop, and that was my experience this afternoon, but fortunately, it was also the shop that I came out half an hour later, with a degree of satisfaction that well worth the 10 minutes ordeal that I had gone through!
The shop is at a less buzzy part of Yuen Long at the ground floor of a residential building. Due to high renting as a result of the surge in property price in Hong Kong in recent years, means that a small private business can usually rent a shop of limited capacity like this.
When I finally could sit down with my friend I ordered a 香酥雞扒麵 and 凍茉香奶, and my friend had a 牛肉干拌麵 and 薑母奶茶. The seemed to be priced as a set such that the cold milk teas only cost $2 with the noodles the same price as printed on the menu, i.e. $34 and $36 for the fried chicken noodle and beef noodle respectively.
The fried chicken is served on a plate with some vegetables underneath, separated from the bowl of noodle, it was quite a large piece of meat enough for two ladies on weight schedule, it was golden yellow in color and crispy outside, and although frozen meat is used (What should one expect for several tens of dollars!), it was reasonably tender and juicy. The beef is undoubtedly the star of the menu there (the first item of it), and I could tell you it is more than worthy of the extra 2 bucks over the chicken.
On the part of the milk teas, they were certainly no less promising than the noodles, the scent of jasmine and ginger is refreshing, and most important of all, they are sweetened to the right extent that the aroma of tea, milk, jasmine and ginger are all in an appropriate proportion!
Supplementary Information
I suggest to take away the fried chicken from the vegetables underneath, otherwise the crispy outside will absorb the moisture from the vegetable and softened as a result!
