    Cong you bing (scallion pancakes)
    Cong you bing (scallion pancakes)

Their pan fried beef pastries have beef soup inside. I don't know how they did this because the soup should soak through the pastry and make it soggy. Their scallion pancakes (cong you bing) are made of a stack of paper thin layers of crispy pastry. Their curry is made up of a rich cornucopia of herbs and flavors. No other place anywhere else in the world has this rich a curry, not even the Indian places. Other places use just curry powder, hot pepper, and coconut milk. That's only 3 ingredients. This restaurant has a curry that is made from at least a dozen ingredients or more (much more). It is a symphony of flavors in your mouth!

P.S. My uncle's dying wish was to eat at this restaurant. Any restaurant that is a man's request for a last meal has got to be the best there is! For the best halal food on this planet, try "Islam Food" in Kowloon city.

    P.P.S. Nobody here speaks English. That's why I took the pictures and posted them. Here's some approximate pronunciations;
Niu Rou Bing (fried beef pie)
    Cong You Bing (scallion pancake)
Niu Rou Bing (Fried Beef Pie)
Niu Rou Bing (Fried Beef Pie)

Islam food it is named, apparently it serves halal meat. Yet I did not come all the way to Kowloon City just for halal meat. I came here for their renowned Beef Patties 牛肉餅.
I suppose it normally has a long queue of people longing to try their signature dishes, but since it's the morning on a weekday, there was no queue outside the shop but the restaurant inside seemed to be full. We didn't bother to go in and check if there were enough seats for us, we just ordered a take-away for the beef patties.
We made our order and the waitress kindly asked us to wait as the beef patties would be freshly cooked upon order. We sat down on chairs outside the shop, which are for people to sit when there is a long queue.
Soon enough, our beef patties were ready. I totally couldn't wait to try it. At first bite, I was already enjoying my time sucking the juice inside the patty. The beef patty is extremely juicy and I was pretty amazed by the masterwork of making the pastry as it would not easily break with the large volume of juice inside yet not too thick. The pastry wouldn't get too heavy in taste as well. For the beef, the freshness of it overwhelmed me. The use of halal beef is just a bonus to contribute the quality of the beef I believe. With the addition of scallion, it tasted absolutely savory. Everything about it was very well-balanced and made it a flabbergasting sensation to savor it. Just a kindly reminder: you might want to be gentle and careful when you eat the beef patties because the juice may leak out and it would be hot as they are all freshly made upon order.
    $13 each

Even though I only had the beef patties, I could definitely tell that their other dishes wouldn't be too bad. Hopefully one day I would visit again and try out their other dishes, but no matter what, the beef patties would be a must order. Even right now the savory sensation is tingling on my tongue and was still longing for more.

I often passed by this joint. It's always packed and I never had the patience. I thought I'd try their beef cakes by ordering some take-out. Still, it was a ten-minute wait huffy

It turned out to be worth the wait. The beef cakes were very good. I thought they would be greasy, but they were not. They were small enough that you can have two. I did tongue The juice dripped on the first bite shocked They had the smell of spices that is hard to describe. It was a nice find smile

About the only thing I didn't really like was the pinkish color of the minced beef. That made me want to stop being a carnivore!

Super Juicy 牛肉餅 Smile Apr 28, 2009

A while back I was brought one of the veal goulash cakes (it says veal goulash on the menu, but really it's more like a flattened fried bun with a beef patty inside) from this place but was told that if I had the time I should visit the restaurant to try it freshly made. So I finally did and wow, I think I will have to come here again and again tongue

The dough of the "veal goulash" bun is fried to the perfect degree of crispiness and an explosion of delicious meat juice invades your mouth as you make your first bite, just like a soupy shanghainese xiao long bao. Make sure you eat the bun with it held vertically because there really is a LOT of soup inside that WILL leak out if you're not careful!

Also ordered some mutton curry and beef curry (and spring onion pancake to dip into them). Both were fantastic as the meats were extremely tender although the mutton curry stood out more because of its intense, pleasantly pungent flavour. Never thought I'd enjoy halal cuisine so much tongue

牛肉餅 Good! Smile Apr 16, 2009

Wanted to eat more here to try their Halad food, but it was too full inside at the main shop.
Ended up ordering 'Take-Away' 牛肉餅 x 2 only and straight away ate it outside the shop.
(I walked past the new, 3 months old only 分店 too on another street, but that shop doesn't have much customers, at exactly the same time! May be I will try more dishes there next time.)

    Back to 牛肉餅:
    - Very juicy, but very salty with taste of some leek or spring onion. I didn't really feel that it tasted like beef. I've tried this before, but this time, it was over-bearingly salty.
    - Skin - it was very good indeed, and actually slightly crispy. 1 of the 牛肉餅 however, had one corner in which the pastry was way to thick, it wasn't even enough. But overall, it was good and acceptable!

MUCH BETTER THAN THE SIMILAR 牛肉餡餅 in 台灣!lol
Score is only ony 牛肉餅! Low-Mid 4.

Expecting there should be many ppl so we took a strategy that we ate somewhere then bought the beef bun ... as many recommended the bun ... only

We were right, the shop was packed even it was already a weekday *as my dear took an extended easter holiday* however it was surprised that we did have to wait for a while.

The beef bun finally came out and looked decent! It was really very very juicy, the bun is of the appropriate thickness and served hot. But for the patty, right like M-chain's burger patty in terms of thickness, even thicker, the flavor was strong and quite salty, even the green onion was strong.

After finishing the whole thing, it was just ok.

I went to 清真 by myself on a Saturday afternoon. There were already a few customers even though it was just past noon when i walked in.

Once again, i didn't need to look at the menu to know what i wanted to order as i had done my homework by looking at the reviews on Openrice. I ordered two pieces of the famous 牛肉餅, and a 咖哩羊腩.

咖哩羊腩 came quickly. The portion size was too much for one person. The 羊腩 was tender and tasty but the potatoes were still hard.

牛肉餅 were just great, very juicy and delicious.

The hygiene of this restaurant was way below par. The sight of a few pails of dirty dishes on the floor was nauseating.

Just OK Just OK Mar 10, 2009

I came from San Francisco, California on vacation to try out this restaurant because of the raving comments from many people.
My husband & I tried the pan fried beef bows & green onion pancakes only. It cost $10HK
each piece. Both the beef bows & pancakes were just OK. The bow was very juicy but kind of tasteless. The frozen green onion pancakes we get in US supermarket taste better. We didn't think it was worth the money & not our special trip to go there.
I think it was just a hype.

this is the worst restaurant!! Cries Aug 23, 2007
Share with MessengerShare on TwitterShare on Facebook
i bet those people from Cable TV must have a good service..at least they are promoting their restaurant..
who cares about people like us..we are NORMAL..

you know what..i must admit that the food are better than usual..tasty..but not that special..Cable TV is exaggerating... you know...

I went there a week ago.. i had the worst dining experience..ever!

first..the service..and mainly the service..i am ..at very least..a professional..and that freaking cashier..that "beach"..she shouted at my face..said that if we didn't have 6 people and she wouldn't let me in! ok..fine..we don't have 6..but at least, we have 5! omfg..we can order first and wait!

when i sat down..i ordered food..and when they come, i found that there is a fly in my beef bread! and hair in the curry!..i was like...WTF!?

I know..time is of the essence..and i understand that they would like to have more customers..but NOT by kicking other customers out! omg..i was kind of like forced to eat fast..

Customer is the base of a business..i really hope that they will learn a lesson before they close down..

    don't go there...!

CURRY LAMB Smile Mar 06, 2000

Beside the most Popular "BEEF BUN", Curry is excellet. You must try the Curry Lamb. Their taste is similar to Indian. It is totally different to SE Asian. They offer some best value set meals. One thing you have to remember as they don't sell PORK.
