I discovered this place based on this site and, as a vegetarian, the dau fu fa was a welcome find. The guy serving was very friendly and spoke quite good English. Fresh soya milk was also pleasantly fresh and cold.

When I eat or drink Soy Tofu products I want at least a bit of 豆味, otherwise it defeats the purpose completely doesn't it? smile I will consider it an Added Bonus if there's a bit more flavour and add the score as such, but I'm not fussed when its only a tiny little bit barely detectable - I think its only fair however, it has least has some that's detectable.

Would you not ask for a replacement Coke that is flat and gasless, unless its slurpee/boiled coke/candy?
Would you buy a Chocolate which has absolutely not a trace of Cocoa Bean taste?
Would you pay for a hotel room without any 'detectable' Bed?

That's why it sounds harsh but when I score Tofu shops, any shop that doesn't satisfy this very simple bottomline request by default gets a crying face. Obviously after trying this shop twice and other shops more than once already, I know that such delicate and volatile products do change. I will re-rate as such then, I guess!
    **************************************
Ordered a savoury Fried Tofu with Fish, then a low-sugar Hot Tofu Curd as usual, then a Cold Soy Milk. All eaten by myself (and I had 2 more bowls of Tofu curd on that same day at original 人和!). On a separate visit, this time with my mom from overseas, the same were ordered plus a Cold Tofu Curd, normal Sugar level. On the 1st visit, the Tofu Curd were a little bit smoother than the 2nd time, but its within normal expected discrepancies.

bowlFried Tofu with Fish - This was actually one of the best I have had in Hong Kong, which is funny considering every other Tofu shop sells the same thing. The fish actually has some but not much taste, but its the Tofu which got me excited. FOR ONCE, I caught glimpses of 豆味 in this dish, not 'absolutely nothing' or not unfresh 'sourness'. It could do with some 'pickles' or better chilli or sweet sauce.
This tofu however is not without its own story. It actually tastes different on each single bite. On some bites, there's little taste. On other bites, it'd show hints of 腐竹 or some 豆味flavour. On some bites, there was a slight smokiness in the background. Nevertheless, even though this didn't have a mega amount of Tofu taste, it was already the strongest I've yet experienced so far locally.

    bowlLow-sugar Hot Tofu Curd
This is the Dau Fu Fa. This also had some 豆味 in all 3 bowls I've tried in this shop, which must be very rare in Hong Kong apparently because I could taste none at all in 3 old and famous shops in Hong Kong. Sometimes I did wonder if I have an insensitivity to the Soy Taste? In 德興隆 (Tak Hing Lung), visiting 2 times, I never detected any 豆味 in any of their soy products - except in the 2nd visit, perhaps with a bit of help from my imagination, I thought the Sweet Syrup might have carried a little bit of it but non in the actual tofu curd jelly itself. A strange phenomenon. I also couldn't find any at all on my singular visit to 公和, which I plan to revisit.
Anyway, even though I ordered low-sugar versions deliberately, I found enough beans taste in these tofu curds that I never added a single scoop of Yellow Crunchy Sugar during both visits, as I prefer to enjoy the soy taste naturally if there's any. In the case of the other bland shops, plenty of yellow sugar was used. Surprisingly, found very little traces of ginger scent and virtually no smokiness in the tofu curd.

    bowlCold Soy Milk
Unlike the above 2, this liquid version had a stronger smokiness or perhaps more accurately 焦味 as an aftertaste. It also has adequate Bean's taste initially. I liked this a lot, it was perfectly balanced for me and also kind of smooth compared to the gritty ones other shops sell.
*- ALL IN ALL, QUITE IMPRESSED BUT STILL WISHED FOR JUST A TAD MORE TASTE. SERVICE WAS VERY GREAT IN THIS SHOP TOO.
    * I THINK THE TOFU-CURD WAS SMOOTH ENOUGH ALREADY PERSONALLY, I AM NOT TOO FUSSED ABOUT TEXTURE, ITS ONLY THE SECOND PRIORITY AT MOST! (as long as its not rough nor too watery like 百福 packages!) smile
    * THIS SHOP = I WILL SHOW WITHOUT HESITATION TO OVERSEAS TOURISTS, AS IT WON'T DAMAGE OUR CULINARY CITY REPUTATION AND STATUS.
Quite Good, but could still become better.
