For food, taste was alright. For example, Mango lassi was a bit sour, but it should be a good choice among selections Curry wasn't too spicy, just wish to have green curry for dipping too Fried chicken was crispy and not very spicy Shrimp had much powder which would be better if have more meat Not enough vegetables, but glad to have broccoli with flavor Panna cotta was nice with strong milk flavor, It would be perfect if have more options on the whole, especially curry selections that can let me dip the pizza / bread. Anyway, surprised to have fresh strawberries in buffet. It's also vegetarian friendly and vegan can enjoy the whole wheat bread instead of the regulars, but remember to tell:-) The service was good and the managers were friendly. He was willing to share the food story in India and took the initiative to offer us one more drink. Meal was normal, but the attitude may keep us back as there is not much warm service as Jashan! Thank you! Recommended Dish(es):

I have tried this indian restaurant with colleagues and have had the festive set dinner menu! So nice. what a good idea my friends had to bring us there. First it s not expensive for what you get and the dishes are very tasteful and nice. The salmon to start was tender and well cooked. The chicken was okay. then I had the lamb: amazing! and the prawns. they were fresh and the gravy was exceptional. I couldn' t stop eating the sauce with the naan. And finally the dessert plater was perfect. the crispy of the banana and the freshness of the ice cream were more than wellcome after this huge but nicely dosed dishes. Honestly very good and very nice staff btw. Gonna bring my wife before it ends. Date of Visit: Dec 14, 2012 Other Ratings: Taste 4 | Environment 4 | Service 4 | Hygiene 4 | Value for Money 4

Went out for some Indian food with friends and colleagues. It was a Thursday night, but we had no trouble getting seats without reservations at Jashan (the wait was 30 min just down the street at Bombay Dreams). Here's what we had: My feeling on this place is that it's solid B food. Maybe a second attempt ordering different stuff could convince me otherwise, but in the future I'll probably just try to book ahead at Bombay Dreams. Table Wait Time: 0 minute(s)

We had heard about Jashan's GREAT Sunday lunch buffet, but seeing as how we rarely have an opportunity to make it down to Central during the day we opted for their dinner during the week. With little ones in tow, we arrived right when the doors opened for dinnet at 6:00pm and were sat immediately. In fact, we were the only patrons in the restaurant for our entire dinner. Which is probably a good thing! That way our kids didn't bother anyone as they crawled around on the floor and under the tables or as they slapped the large picture window over looking the street. As a result, we also received very attentive service and the staff doted on our kids while the hubby and I tried to dine.
The service once again was the star of the evening. They were very friendly and patient with our young family (small children in a restaurant setting can be trying at times for everyone involved). They were wonderful at playing with our children and even treated them both to a complimentary mango lassi. Supplementary Information: The Sunday Lunch Brunch at $148 comes highly recommended. They also offer a High tea everday from 3pm-6pm for $120 for two persons.Table Wait Time: 0 minute(s)

Kulfinda (Non-member) | Awful. Not sure what's happened to the this once great restaurant but that has to be the worst Indian meal we've ever had. The meal was so salty we couldn't actually taste much else. The chicken tasted like it was off. Not good! Delivery Wait Time: 40 minute(s)

I was a bit frustrated to buy the coupon for this restaurant because the ad said the coupon was valid on Mondays to Sundays for lunch buffet, but when I made the phone booking, the manager told me it was only applicable on Mondays to Saturdays, no Sundays and only 1 hour for the buffet, and he even questioned: one hour is enough for the lunch, right? WHAT? Anyhow, we made the booking on a weekday and at 1pm we arrived the restaurant, the house was not crowded but obviously the staff was so busy that we had to wait for 5 mins at the counter to be seated. Finally, we were secured with a big table, that's not too bad, at least. The dishes of buffet included: ★ Pureed Spinach with Cottage Cheese ★ Vegetable Biryani Rice ★ Dal panchmel – five lentil curry Infused with mustard, curry leaves ★ Chicken Tikka ★ Saffron infused Mince Lamb Kebab ★ Chicken Tikka Masala ★ Kashmiri Lamb Curry ★ Dosa Counter with Indian vegetable soup ★ Chaat and fruit The taste of the food was generally GREAT, especially the spinach and the lamb, thumbs up! The chef used a wide selection of spices for flavoring and not greasy at all. However, the food was already ‘not hot’ at 1pm and a bit cold, what a pity! And we were not reminded for the 2nd drinks included in the coupon, what kind of service? Overall, the original price $98+10% lunch buffet is acceptable with such quality of food, and the dinner menu is reasonably priced. However, I would expect for the food served hot and the better service~
food counter is no big, but food is authentic
Dosa counter, at 1pm the food was already cool out
roti and naan, the naan was sweating a bit
food is authentic and good taste~
typhoo black tea w/lemon, quite an experience

I had passed by the restaurant a few times but never got the chance to check it out until they posted a Groupon offer for their lunch buffet. I decided to try their lunch buffet on a weekday. The buffet had all the popular curry choices. I always use butter chicken and rogan josh (lamb curry) as a benchmark between Indian restaurants. I found Jashan's offering to be very well-tuned. I could really taste the spices while I think there was less oil than many. I also tried their Mango Lassi which was quite refreshing with the curry. The mango and yogurt were blended really well and didn't find it to be particularly too sweet. I really recommend their buffet over dinner as you get to try many selections. The service was excellent despite arriving 30 minutes later than my original reservation time (rainy weather, bad traffic). We were seated almost right away. However I must note that I saw a bug on our seat, which the waitress immediately removed and apologized. It wasn't a big deal and showed their level of courtesy. I am biased towards the value because I had obtained a Groupon offer for $50 per head. Otherwise the regular price is $98 for the buffet + 1 drink. Even for $98 I feel it is quite unbeatable especially when that is the cost of a meal in a food court in Central. The quality of this restaurant can easily price in the range for $200. If you are looking for exotic Indian food with great value, I recommend Jashan. Recommended Dish(es):

Visited Jashan for dinner after work and a walk around central. We were seated quickly to a nice side table. The décor is nice lots of wood and nice lighting. The menu has a good selection of Indian dishes, and once ordered the food arrived promptly which was good as we were extremely hungry. We ordered the Aloo Gobi (potato and cauliflower) although I asked for no gobi as I hate the taste. The waiter was nice enough to make a different meal suggestion for another potato dish that has no cauliflower but I had already made my mind up. We also ordered a chicken tikka masal, nann bread, roti and pilau rice. The food tasted great, lots of flavours in both curries and the spice was not over powering. I would put it on par with Gaylords in TST. After dinner we felt like desert so we ordered Gajar Halva (carrot dessert) and Gulab Jamun (milk balls). I am a huge fan of Gajar Halva I would recommend this to any one who eats at Jashan. The Gulab Jamun I am not such a fan of as it is very sweet and comes in a syrup however my other half liked it and said it was like cake but would prefer it to be served with ice cream. I would recommend this to anyone, I may even go back and try the buffet one day. Recommended Dish(es):

Every few months, we tend to enjoy to dine here. Of course we will make reservation for the window seats. The restaurant is set up with Indian decorations and old wooden furniture, facing the Central Police Station Compound @ Hollywood Road. A nice setting to enjoy, while watching busy people on the street and the mid-levels escalators.
LASTLY I MUST SAY WHY IT'S NOT AS GOOD AS BEFORE ........ NOT COS OF THEIR TASTE (AS THEY ARE JUST AS TASTY) ...... BUT ALL THE FOOD WERE NOT WARM (NOT EVEN SAYING HOT OR NOT!!!!) ..... THEY DID LIT UP UNDER EACH STATION ..... BUT NONE OF THE FOOD, EXCEPT THE FISH WAS WARM ENOUGH!!!! Table Wait Time: 0 minute(s)

We had seen Jashan while having a drink at Barolo across the street on Hollywood Road. We popped in a week ago, but without a reservation we couldn't be seated, so we made a reservation for Friday (highly recommended). I really liked the decor and atmosphere of Jashan and the manager is very friendly. So...I have to say that the service is marginal at best, although there was a big group dinner of regulars next to us - about 20 - that were absorbing a lot of the wait staff. We waited almost 10 minutes for a drink order to be taken. We were told they had poori, but it is not available there, which was a disappointment to our kids - it is their favorite. The samosas were tasty and the onion bhaji were a hit as well. Main course was chicken saag which was fine but not great. The lamb in the rogan jhosh was a bit fatty and the gravy a bit bland. THe chicken tikka masala was passable, but not extraordinary. Also had garlic naan and aloo paratha which were very good. We have now been to Tandoor, Bombay Dreams and Jashan. I think Tandoor is the best of the three and Jashan second as it is more reasonable than Bombay Dreams and the food is equal. If you visit you won't be disappointed, but it won't be the best you've ever had. Recommended Dish(es):

I’ve not had many curries since arriving in Hong Kong but I woke this morning feeling fuggy (the start of a head cold) so decided to blast away the germs with something hot and spicy. With no particular restaurant in mind, the family and I headed over to the Island and up the escalator towards Soho. On hitting Hollywood road we noticed Jashan and decided to give it a whirl. Lunch is a buffet-only affair, which was a little disappointing as I had my heart set on something laden with chili like a Jalferezi. Having said that, there was a decent choice of pretty tasty dishes. From memory, there were veggie samosas, shami kebabs, tandoori chicken, vegetable pakora and onion salad as appetizers – all good. Fish, lamb, and two chicken curries, with a choice of plain or pilaf rice. Finally, sag paneer, dhal, spiced potatoes and a mushroom dish completed the savory options. There were three sweets – a rice pudding type dish (kheer?), those very sweet fried dumplings that make my teeth itch thinking about them, and fresh watermelon. My wife thought that the dhal and sag paneer were highlights. I tend to agree – the dhal had a creamy texture and was subtly spiced, while the sag paneer was light and simple – a perfect foil to the rich curries. I also thought the lamb curry was rather good – tender meat, comforting rich curry sauce with a little bit of a kick. My only gripe is that the heat levels (in terms of both Scoville and Celsius) could have been a little higher. Décor was reassuringly garish with somewhat feeble Christmas trinkets dotted around, but comfortably spaced tables, clean front of house and friendly attentive service makes for an overall excellent experience. And at HK$98 a head (+ service) for all you can eat, one standard drink and a cup of (revolting, in my view, but the wife liked it) Masala chai, it’s very good value. Recommended Dish(es):

I like Jashan's lunch buffet and here's why: they make a mean mango lassi which is included in the $98 lunch buffet (+10% service charge) that is one of the best and most refreshing fruit smoothies I've ever had in an Indian restaurant. Their butter chicken sauce (but not so much the actual chicken as it appeared a little undercooked) rocks my world as I greedily ladled it over my basmati rice and garlic naan. It was nice that the sauce was actually spicy as I noticed most Indian restaurants in Hong Kong are hesitant to add the real spice and punch which is the trademark for Indian cuisine. The chicken saag was also well done with the pureed spinach having a delightfully umami flavour to it. This also went well with my perfectly cooked basmati rice. The other curry selections were passable, but a bit too runny and similar to all the other curries on their spread for my taste, but a shout-out to their samosas which are excellent when they've just left the fryer. Everything was fresh and the surroundings appeared clean. In comparison to Bombay Dreams which also includes a freshly made free roti and individual sauce garnishes on one's table, Jashan had a smaller selection but the food tasted better. Also memorable was the spicy potato, cucumber and tomato salad with a nice acidic twang to it. All in all, I will return in the future. It's a shame that I haven't been able to stuff myself to the extent that I liked since I was full after the second helping. A word of caution and the only disappointment was that I had been dehydratingly thirsty after my meal, if they could go easy on the msg or lay it off altogether, then it would be close to an A-. Also, it would be better if they could speed up on their service in terms of delivering the fresh naan on one's table, since it took about 15 minutes into the meal before my bread came. On this front, Bombay Dreams since their naan was fresher and fluffier, not to mention piping hot. Worth checking out if you're in the area and is craving some decent Indian cuisine. This Indian restaurant was rated Big Gourmand by Michelin 2009. My friends and I were not particularly interested in Indian food. But we decided to give it a try because of Michelin. Well, at the end, we realized that Indian food is too challenging for us. Very nice people and good service. English speaking waiter/waitress only. Tangy potatoes in pastry shells. Pretty good. 3 stars. An almond based homely made refesher, based on pure milk and crushed almond. Very good. I like it. 4 stars. Jal Jeera is an Indian beverage. In Hindi, "Jal" means water and "Jeera" means cumin. Jal Jeera is similar to lemonade and is a popular summer drink in India. It is generally served as an appetizer as it is intended to startle the taste buds. The Cumin is a medicinal ingredient which aids digestion. The mint has a cooling effect on the consumer. One of the main ingredients is black salt or rock salt which acts as a digestive. 2 stars. Clay oven roasted king prawn $68/pc. Plump and fresh king prawns refreshingly marinated in citric blend of lemon juice, ajwain and green cardamon, wrapped with sesame seeds. As expected, it is not as fresh as Chinese cooking. Still acc eptable. 3 stars. Purred spinach with cottage cheese. 3 stars. Kashmiri lamb curry. The rogan and josh refer to the rich colour which is achieved by using a combination of mild and bright kashmiri chillies and the juice extract from a brightly coloured root stem ratin jot, alkanet. Pretty good for a lamb curry, as I usually don't eat lamb. 3 stars. Dry fruits studded naan. Very good for kids. 3 stars. Assortment of chicken, lamb kebabs and fish. Taste of lamb is too strong. Fish is not the way Chinese like. We don't like it. 1 star. Saffron flavoured rice. We don't like it. 1 star. Thin lentil crispy pancake stuffed with the famous 'temperedpotatos' served with lentil vegatable curry and coconut chutney. 3 star. Indian thickened saffron, nut and milk icecream. A very different type of cold desert, siimilar to icecream, but not really icecream. Should try. 4 stars.
